Main director of this series deserves a box of the beer. I'm really concerned about characters. Not mentioning about small nuances in the background which are keeping this series really natural. The tension is real. One of my favorites of this season despite that horrible 3DCG people....

For some reason I think some people don't get how actually actual middle school romance works.

No, Chinatsu is (and always) just being honest and headfront with everything. She is not trying to do anything evil, she knows that they are dating and she has no chance, but the way she handles it is VERY direct. Tell your friend that she also likes the same guy, just for the sake of being honest. Later, tell the guy (knowing that he will reject you anyway), get dumped, and move on. To her, she must be honest both to her feeling and people around her, and expecting everything is fine as long as everyone is honest. Super naive, yes, but that's kids.

Of course, it might cause short term negative effect, but it's actually better than holding it and ended up becoming an unseen trouble for their relationship (or 4 arc of never ending romance drama if this is your typical adult romantic drama). She's simply at the age where she does not really know how people handle things differently, but it's not stemming from malice or desperation.

Plus no, it won't cause breakup drama or NTR or anything like that lol. It's just kids handling romance with their own immature way.

Really enjoyed this episode. Was glad that Chinatsu wasn't intentionally trying to sabotage the relationship or anything, but even after the girls talked stuff out, she's obviously still a bit too clueless. She should know that giving a love confession to your friend's boyfriend is not okay. I can understand the desire for closure, but like, look. He already has someone he likes, isn't that closure enough? She only has two possible outcomes if she tells him: he rejects her and stays with Akane (what's going to happen obviously), or he decides "wait, I like you better, I'll dump Akane for you." Even if the second had a possibility of happening (which I don't think it does in this case), what good friend would DO THAT to their friend?? It doesn't matter if the possibility would exist that the guy might like you do given the chance. The chance doesn't exist. He's already going out with someone who IS YOUR FRIEND, CHINATSU. Lick your wounds and move on!! I guess this kind of cluelessness does fit what we've seen of her personality so far, though. So it's more that I'm annoyed with her personality, haha. But it feels realistic within the show.

Meanwhile the continuing development of the main episode was very cute this ep. Love them meeting in the library and messaging that they miss each other late at night and supporting each other's ambitions through these temporary setbacks.

Also, man, that editor was harsh. That's a really crappy thing to pull on a junior high kid.

Glad to see they handled the whole situation pretty well. Seems like she wants to confess her feelings for closure. Wonder how that's gonna end up.

Also, quite the straightforward editor. Called him all the way over to the place just to tell he basically has no talent.... Lmao.

That's my view of it too, frankly I think most people here are already aware that those are her true intentions, and that she really is just going to get shot down and move on, but because of all the stuff that's happened in other series we just kind of expect the worst, though I do admit a lot of those negative expectations are directly influenced by the way the show ends in such a dramatic fashion each and every episode.

But yes I do agree, Chinatsu isn't trying to be cunning or evil, but there's no denying that in the process of her honest approach, she will be inviting potential drama, though with what the show has done recently I hold out high hopes that it's quickly and neatly resolved so we can continue with our Akane x Kotarou goodness.

Nonetheless if there's one thing the dramatic cliffhangers are doing to me other than making me go bald, it's getting me excited and impatient for the continuation next week.
Definitely one of my most enjoyed of the season atm
also when is Akane going to shoot Hira down, just put the poor guy out of his misery

Good episode, it's seems like they are finally able to talk to each other casually, nice developement.
Even though, from plot-perspective, it would be a lot better if one of them made it and the other one didn't.. Also, the ending was weird, you usually don't go confess to someone who is in relationship already, it only seemed as something to fuel further drama. But the rest of the episode was fine I guess and those aftercredits shorts were good as always.

The way how this episode went was pretty good and solid. I hope that the way how it ended it will go into good terms next episode. I hope Akane does not get a little 'iffy' on the track. I would want things to go into that kind of mode where things are resolved and talked. And we all be happy in the end.

now i can say that all light novels are toliet towels for real based on what the editor said. becoming a novelist must have proficient writing skills well thats definitely tough but light novelist can just depict some erotic scenario in words with some nearly pornography and otaku will bite to it and be excited to death.

Great insert song. The series really set up its atmosphere properly. Characters are great. I love everything about it. While it don't get me hooked for more every week, it definitely is very well written. The end of this episode is rather different since I am rather curious on what will happen.

I'm also rather confused on the intentions of Akane's friend... She said she knew that they were together(which is rather obvious) but also told her that she had a crush on him. Isn't it obvious that one should give up?
So I guess they got that settled by Akane confronting her about it. Yet the whole confession for closure is rather umm idk slipper slope. I can get where she is coming from but.... Just doesn't seem quite right.
Well I do assume she'll get rejected even if I didn't know Akane was the female lead. Logically, that would be the right and obvious move and based on his personality, he may be shy but he is fairly honest and direct when he needs to be. So here shouldn't be any problems there.

I wonder if Akane will warn him first or what... or will she even agree to letting her friend confess. She probably will although upset...
As for light novels not being serious literature. They aren't. They are kind of like Novella in the west. By no means that they can't be good but generally speaking full-blown novels are generally more mature in content and better written. Generally higher standard of quality.

As someone who ran track, I appreciate the attention to detail here. They're doing a good job capturing it. Especially in the little things like the runners waiting for their heat practicing timing with the gun from the heat ahead of them.

Frankly, I think Ayane gave her little sister some pretty good advice.

What kind of best friend confesses to their best friend's boyfriend? Isn't that one of the bitchiest things a girl can do to her best friend? Personally, I think Chinatsu believes she's on a roll, having undermined Akane's confidence by sending her that text, causing Akane to lose to her on the track field, and now Chinatsu is all pumped up and thinks that she can steal Akane's boyfriend away from her. Ayane was right: ditch the #@%$!. You definitely don't need friends like that.

During that last scene in the library I was fully expecting Akane to break up with Kotarou the way she was talking. And I wouldn't be surprised if, in the next episode, she tells Kotarou it's okay if he breaks up with her if he wants to go out with Chinatsu, or worse, just breaks up with him to give her "best friend" a chance. Chinatsu started out as a really great character, but she's turned into the worst character of the series.

Hopefully, Akane will be able regain her composure on the track field and beat her so-called best friend at every single race going forward.

As for Kotarou's "failure," certainly there's a myriad of extremely successful authors who's first works were rejected. A quick Internet search tells me, for instance, that "John Grisham’s first novel was rejected 25 times" so I don't think Kotarou should give up his dream. After all, that was only one publishing company. Someone else might have actually have had a different opinion.

I won't say I can't understand Chinatsu, as a kid and even teenager, I was the kind of guy who just could say what he thought without thinking about the feelings of others (feelings? what is that?) So in the end I came out sometimes as extremely rude, not because I was a nasty kid (I didn't enjoy hurting people) but just because I was stupid or just wasn't thinking very far ahead.

Other topic : I'd like to understand why Kotarou was surprised as he read the card of the publishing company guy. Does he have a famous name or something? I liked a comment I've read on reddit saying the guy was an asshole because Kotarou's writing is actually good but he wanted to manipulate him into writing light-novel because it sells better maybe.

I am still bothered with our main couple "speaking skills". To be honest, I think the seyuus and the script writers are forcing it quite a bit too much. On the other hand 3 words a minute, it's a friendly tempo when you learn Japanese.

Is it wrong for me to think Kotaro and Akane's relationship is the weakest part in the show? I can't fault the voice actors for delivering their lines as shyly and awkwardly as possible, but after 5 episodes, it kinda feels worn out. Sometimes I feel the supporting characters bring more life to show than the protagonists do. Anyway, the episode delivers some nasty defeats to both Kotaro and Akane, what with Kotaro getting turned down for a publishing award and Akane missing the chance to go to prefecturals. Those parts felt more organic and added more to the narrative than their so-called romance. Once again, the post-credit scenes are great. They should make a show based on them.

I so agree with this! At first, I don't want to acknowledge it but the last blow is this Chinatsu girl telling Akane that she will confess! *sigh* i just hope this will not turn into too much drama. And yes, I am honestly enjoying the shorts more compared to the main story. Spin off please! hehe.

That Nishio is really pushing it! What closure? It's ok that she told Akane and it's nice to see that they will remain friends, as they should, but it should've been over with that. Akane likes Azumi and he likes her too and Nishio could see that from the beginning, so she should stay out of it. You don't mess with your good friend's relationship.

See? Chinatsu isn't much a threat ;) She just wanted to be officially rejected so she can call it 'finished'.
Takumi on the other hand is very dangerous because he doesn't know anything about Akane's on-going relationship. T.T

Akane's household seems to be more cheerful compared to Kotarou's... Well, being a lone boy child in a family really has its burden, yeah?
Miu is definitely an embodiment of girls nowadays... thot? XD

this anime is kind of alternative shojo for me. It did what shojo never did, I thought there will be some long "love triangle" arc between MC & Chinatsu but looks like they just kill it in one episode without any need for forced melodrama. But the ending... looks like it have some kind of twist when Chinatsu kind of dont want to give up easily. Its quite intense!

I loved this episode. I agree with @GundamSoul above me regarding the unique way in which the series presents its drama. Still, I don't really like what Chinatsu is doing. Why confess to the boyfriend of your best friend? That doesn't really make sense even in the inexistent possibility of him accepting her feelings. Hira is the one I'm worrying about right now. I don't think he has any chances at all, but I don't like the way he acts.

I'm glad that Akane doesn't blame her relationship for the bad results, that drama doesn't seem like a good one to explore at all. Her and Kotarou's relationship is always really cute, and it improved a bit once again this episode. The post credit scenes are so fun! Looking forward to next week's episode.

What MC is writing is -jun bungaku- which literally means pure literature and it put stress on the artistic value of the novel and often sell much less than the counterpart popular literature or novels for entertainment. Very few pure literature authors sell well, so it makes sense if the editor wants a mediocre writer to write rather novels for entertainment. Bringing up LN is pretty much shock value for the story. LN is probably the polar opposite of pure literature, it is not something highly thought of in terms of artistic value.

Yeah. All of this. Chinatsu was a bro the first couple of episodes. Now she's coming off as completely selfish. What happened? I'd like to say she's just acting like a kid at that age, but at the same time I'm worried they just had her do this to force a love triangle. If so, this is the first time Tsuki ga Kirei hasn't felt natural. We'll see where this leads. If nothing comes from this, it'll be okay.
Anyway, point is, you've got two options here when you catch feelings for your friend's boyfriend/girlfriend: step away and come to terms with your own feelings, or end the friendship. You don't confess. They're already dating! Case closed.

Those shorts are always good, btw. Miu and Inaba...well, moral of the story: girls are scary.
And what's up with Roman and sensei? Is sensei into Roman? Are we getting into forbidden love territory here? Persona 5? Scum's Wish? :P

They said they have tight schedule when the preview of episode 6 was delayed right? How many works they have this season? I'm really worried.

About Chinatsu, I don't think there will be any love triangle here, it only one way feeling from Chinatsu to Kotarou, our Kota only think of her as friend because you can see it clearly when you look at his behavior when he alone with Chinatsu is completely difference when he alone with Akane right?
I think she just follow her feeling and she expected Kota to rejected her but I don't know if she aware that her action hurt Akane's feeling or not. I hope the show can solved this problem quickly and peacefully because we still have Hira dude to deal with.

I don't know her intention yet but I guess she did this because she want the closure just like she said to Akane. If Kota rejected her then she can completely give up. I still believe she don't have a bad intention, she just insensitive to her friend's feeling but this is just my speculation, we will have to wait to see her true intention.

looks like Azumi isn't cut out for serious literature but instead go for LN type!
Akane also didn't do went and couldn't make it to perfecturals.
Looks like problems would start on Azumi's parents and doesn't want him to be a writer.
Akane was a bit surprised that Chinatsu want to cunfess to Azumi for a proper closure.
