From Wikipedia:
"Tinnitus is the hearing of sound when no external sound is present. While often described as a ringing, it may also sound like a clicking, hiss or roaring. Rarely, unclear voices or music are heard. The sound may be soft or loud, low pitched or high pitched and appear to be coming from one ear or both"

I have a moderately loud Tinnitus which I need to mask with external sounds. I've had it for a couple of months. In quiet situations it drives me crazy and I can barely sleep.

Have you ever suffered/still suffer from Tinnitus? What are your experiences?

I don't, but I believe a friend I had in high school did. Pete Townshend from the band "The Who" also has Tinnitus, as well as David Letterman.

I always laugh when Americans mispronounce Tinnitus as "Tonightis."

I'm actually not sure. I definitely hear the sounds rather often, but it's not like they're always present. Is that a requirement for it to be diagnosed as tinnitus? I tend to get them sporadically throughout the day, and they can last for like an hour. I usually mask it by listening to music.

I have tinnitus. Went to a doctor, did't say a shit about what's wrong ("everything's ok", yeah right). My ears are super sensitive to cold, plus I listen to music, like, all the time (now too). I'm pretty used to ringing now, still, I think it's best to consult someone competent (my former doctors certainly weren't).

I've been to two ENTs, undergone two hearing tests (no hearing loss whatsoever). I'm pretty much lost and I don't know what to do. I'm getting my jaw fixed right now though, I hope that'll help a bit

Maybe you suffer from mild hypertension?

I get it maybe 2 or 3 times a month. I hear a high pitch tone in one ear, but it usually only lasts about 20 seconds so it's not a big deal.

Well, there must be a reason why it started, as far as I know, in some cases it can be cured. Hope you get yours cured; as for me, I think it's a lost cause.

Do you think your Tinnitus was noise-induced?

Not sure, but there's a high possibility that it was.

I used to get this a lot! A high pitched ringing sound in my left ear. Turned out to be something caused by my TMJ, a jaw disorder. My jaw is a lot better now and I rarely get those noises in my ear.

That's what I'm doing right now, getting my jaw fixed! (Although it'll take some time). I hope my condition will improve as well

I had it before. I would hear loud ringing noises in my right or left ear, can't remember which. It was such a pain in the ass. I couldn't sleep at all. Thankfully I don't have it anymore.

I occasionally do, previously after a few bad nights of sleeping. It comes and go for me with some temporary hearing blockage for me.

This is legit what I hear when I have it.. Without the music of course. Is this what you hear as well?

Mmh not really. I hear a continuous high pitched sound, not pulsatile.
Have you tried checking your blood pressure?

I have suffered from Tinnitus for about 4 years now :/
Silence doesn't exist.... Non-stop noise.... It's really shitty, but I have gotten pretty used to it and it doesn't bother me as much anymore. Although the past few days it's been really loud and it's constant screeches whenever I listen to music or something. Sometimes it sounds like having a song stuck in my head and sometimes I can hear it really loud. It's weird, but an absolute pain >__<

One thing I've noticed is that it gets louder with stress and louder if you pay attention to it. My suggestion would be to try and relax. Have fun, enjoy yourself, find some hobbies, just stay busy. You'll get used to it sooner or later and it won't bother you as much anymore.

It's not impossible, and I have shown signs of it during medical exams in the past. I didn't know that it could cause ringing in the ears?

It happens to me sometimes, generally in the dark. It's pretty mild albeit rather vexing. The best tip I can give you is to either try ignore it or listen to some binaural beats (for some reason it tends to help).
Take care of yourself

i had this once, it was caused by ear wax being sucked into the inner parts of my ear when the pressure changed during take-off on a plane, had to go to the doctor and get that shit expunged with hot water and some kind of dillutive

moral of the story is don't get onto airplanes with unpristined earholes

Tinnitus is fake, just like global warming. It's all in your head. See what I did there?

Protip: Listening to really loud music to drown out the noise won't help, and in the long run will only make it worse when you are old.

I have a ringing randomly occasionally but nothing major

I learned if you plug your ear that is ringing and knock on the base of your skull with your fist on that side it makes it stop. Works every time for me. Not sure if that would work with people that hear it constantly though.

I think a lot of people here are misunderstanding what tinnitus actually is. Of course when you're not listening to anything in particular you'll hear background noise, or even the noise around your ear or body workings. Tinnitus is caused temporarily through extremely loud sounds or ear infections, causing a person to hear a ringing type sound. It can become chronic through prolonged exposure to extremely loud sounds, it's much more common to people who work in the music and trades industry. Most people online who claim to have tinnitus or are affected by it are misunderstanding.

Hypertension (including orthostatic) wouldn't relate to common temporary hearing issues, or any hearing issues for that matter.

I've had it for about nine months now; it's bilateral so most of the time it sounds like screeching emanating from right inside my skull. The first three months were hell and sleeping is still an issue, but I'm dealing with it much better. I was super devastated because I love manga, but could not stand to be in "silence" anymore, the noise made it so hard to concentrate on reading. Now when I read I have cricket sounds or white noise playing.

I had it extremely bad for the past year following a period of hyponatremia which must've damaged my auditory cortex or something. It's about 95% gone now after a month of self-hypnosis. I found a healing incantation on a magick forum too which has been a big help.

Yes and it sucks. The only good thing is mine isn't constant, so I don't know if I can actually call it "suffering".
