You really got a feeling of sadness with this final episode. I guess it's that bittersweet feeling you have when you're growing up and people you knew have moved on and are no longer an active part of your life.

Props to the studio for focusing on the self-development of the characters (bonus props for not going down the so-called Shuichi/Kumiko "romance" route).

The way things developed between Kumiko and Asuka surprised me. I wasn't expecting them to have, in effect, what was one of the strongest bonds in the series. The combination of junior-senior not-quite-a-friend pseudo-sister relationship is an awkward one, but at the same time I can't help but like it.

It's good to see interactions that are neither typical friendship nor romance.

I think I would've been happy with just Season 1, but at least there was Asuka for this. Glad I watched till the end.

This epilogue was even quieter than last episode and even more so that even Hyouka's conclusion. It might also be the first Kyoani episode of any anime to be almost entirely composed of flashbacks haha.

Jokes aside I find it a fitting conclusion to an anime that has built so much up from the very first episode. It wrapped up the dramatic moments the individuals and club as a whole have been through pretty nicely with the last performance of Crescent Moon Dance.

The flashback of the Sunfes was surprising but appropriate since that performance was the first time they were an actual band with the steely motivation to tackle any challenges. And how could we not have an episode without our beloved president Haruka crying??

Asuka leaving in silence is just to be expected from her. As it turns out, the Yuri ship didn't sink. It merely moved. Can't say I don't enjoy it since I genuinely loved the Asuka-Kumiko interactions throughout the series. But, for now at least, its farewell to the best girl.

Kumiko has become one of my favorite characters with this season. Her development as a person has exceeded my expectations and it was a great ride following her journey with the band and its members.

I'm slightly disappointed Hazuki and Sapphire didn't get a nice send-off. Despite being supporting characters they did really well in the series. Hope the OVA specials will do them justice.

Crossing fingers Kyoani will do something with the 4th LN...

I will miss this series, consistently good quality throughout. 8/10

Also quite ballsy move to end it with Kumiko and Asuka, i'm not one of those who exactly likes it.

I thought it was a little bit underwhelming, this episode and the season as a whole. Season was really great and focused, so in comparison this season didn't feel um, necessary. The execution was near flawless, of course, and the feels were there. Just a bit underwhelmed with the actual story.

Hoped for more relationship buildups (Shuichi xKumiko as well as Taki x Reina) because it is well hinted. I think this and the fact that they still got the 3rd year could be a hope for a 3rd season. Even when the novels may have ended. I think this has more potential.

Thanks for sharing this. I was really sad that didn't confirm it, just because I wanted to shut up the people that have been complaining all season that Reina and Kumiko won't make it official. The anime is about relationships that are stronger than romance. That's why the canon pairing of Kumiko and Shuichi was skipped in the anime but definitely is still canon.

All that said, it was a fantastic ending. Got a little mad at the flashbacks but the very end was freaking perfect. Even the credit roll was S-Rank. It felt like finishing a really long top-tier motion picture. Normally I have 1 10/10 anime of the year. I was worried it wasn't gonna happen but here it is.God Blses KyoAni and the original creator for giving us this wonderful work of art.

Um mate, literally what? If it didn't happen in the anime, IT'S NOT CANON IN THE ANIME. An adaptation is a separate entity. Just because it ~*~happened in the novel~*~ doesn't make it canon in the anime... especially because Kyoani purposely skipped it lmfao.

Also did you even watch the ep? Kumiko says outright that she doesn't like Shuichi that way..... How in denial can you get?

Guess you didn't look at her face. Or understand her personality. The fact that she even accepted it means a lot in Japanese culture. Don't push your anger about her being straight onto me. The only reason it was cut from the anime is because it wasn't relevant to the main story (and was done poorly in the source to begin with). It would've felt rushed and out of no where if she just admitted it now when he had almost no screen time. The anime stuck to the source solidly so there's no reason to assume it's not canon just because they didn't show it. Kumiko and Reina not being a thing however is 100% confirmed so people need to get over that and stop pushing their fantasies. Official art work from KyoAni at least suggests it stayed canon.

Meh ending trying to be overly emotional to compensate for the DISASTER that was episode 12.

Ultimately, I just think they really dropped the ball in that episode and it kinda left a sour note (pun definitely intended!!) for the viewer.

I still liked it overall...but I felt season 1 was definitely better in every regard.

6/10 for season 2.

I have no idea why so much of the community seems to think that Asuka and Kumiko are anything more than friends.

The declaration of love was clearly platonic. They are parting ways, there is no romantic relationship between them that will persist into the future. It was a tearful confession to a FRIEND that is leaving.

The anime community is so immature. Everyone seems to think that all relationships have to be sexual if there is love involved. Not true. Friendships can be very deep and fulfilling WITHOUT sex. Sex should not be a part of basically all friendships anyway.

Don't ruin this show with obsessive and delusional shipping. It's disgusting. This is a show about FRIENDSHIP. And it's fantastic. This show has some of the best friendships I've ever seen in anime. The most recent one that felt comparable to me was Gon and Killua in Hunter X Hunter (2011). Friends who grow together working toward a common goal, displaying clear love for each other, and helping each other to become better people in the process. It's great.

This is what people need. They don't need more sex--they get plenty of it these days (if not physically then through copious amounts of porn). What people need is friendship. And that's what I love about this show. The great friendships.

Did anyone seriously think that Kumiko was confessing to romantic and/or sexual interest in her sister in the previous episode? No, of course not. It's the same here with Asuka. Anyone who thinks otherwise has got to be delusional.

Cried my heart out with the last two episodes. Can't wait for the soundtrack. At the beginning of season 2, I couldn't notice how Akito Matsuda had evolved his soundtrack into a more dramatic yet beautiful list of amazing songs. Also, I don't think he tops S1 OST but his work this season is top notch.

I also agree that season 1 worked things better than this season, except for the Asuka part. More music driven, simplistic drama situations that happened because of past struggles. This second season had a weak beginning, but that is how Kumiko grew into a great main character. Made me cry many times.

Season 2 ends as it began... very sad to see the third-years go. Couldn't comment on episode 12 thread since I saved it for today, but I am glad they didn't win gold, though it felt underwhelming. With all the Asuka problems and Reina lose of focus, you would think that gold wasn't even in the possibilities of Kitauji. Aside from that, the other schools could've been way better than them.

Too bad we couldn't listen to their Nationals performance. The only thing I really disliked from 12 is that: we didn't get to hear them play. Terrible decision making.

Truly loved the third-year trio both seasons. Asuka wins the ship at the end. But why is everyone mad that yuri didn't happen? Give the man Shuichi a chance, heh.

9/10. I'd submit a 10 but ain't no topping first season.

Splendid final episode.

Congrats Yuuko & Natsuki on the new Pres & Vice-Pres positions.
LOL these two are always so funny.

Another nice Kumiko & Shuuichi moment.

Wonderful Farewell Party. Nice final performances.
Sad to see the third years go.

Kumiko loves Asuka. Well that's lovely.

Overall a wonderful 2nd Season. Enjoyed it just as much as Season 01.
Beautiful Art & Animation, especially the background & eyes.
Thanks Kyoani.

Sad to see it go. Gonna miss these characters.

You know that feeling....the feeling you get while watching something you enjoy so much, but then when you finish watching the final episode, you get that emptiness inside of you. That's what this show has done to me.

The final episode had a heavy amount of feels that stick with you for the whole duration of the episode. Asuka and Kumiko's final scene together was beautifully handled and was emotionally moving as well. Sound! Euphonium was the title of the song that Asuka played sometime back I believe, which is nice to know about. =)

Overall, season 2 of Euphonium improves on season 1. The drama of the characters was handled better, as was the whole character development too. Along with KyoAni's faultless animation, soundtrack and excellent VA's, I can look back on this show sometime in the future and smile upon the enjoyable and memorable moments and also remind myself as to why I loved this well produced show in the first place.

9/10 overall. ^_^

I have to say, Yuko's triggered face after Natsuki became acting vice president was really funny! XD

When did I say I was angry? Kumiko says repeatedly throughout the show that she doesn't like Shuuichi lmao. It's wild that straight anime fans will say gay couples aren't canon unless they confess, get married, buy a house, get three pets, and kiss twelve times, but a straight "couple" can barely interact and even explicitly say they're not into each other and people will scream "canon".

Mate... If they specifically skipped the scene then it didn't happen... They literally showed recap shots when they could've stuck in your lameass canon straights scene... So you need to get over it and stop pushing your fantasies.

This second season started off not so good but after the first drama filled arc it got much more enjoyable. Wish there was more Reina but Asuka is great too. I didn't like how there was practically no screen time for Sapphire and Hazuki this time around. I think the first season was better but this was still more Hibike! Euphonium so I'm happy.

Most of them are probably just joking, since Hibike fandom are mostly Kumiko x Reina shippers and source material made Kumiko x Shuichi cannon. Having something so unexpected in anime like dedication last scenes of series to Asuka and Kumiko relationship with words like "I love you", made it easy to make a jokes about Asuka winning Kumiko love over Reina and Shuichi.

well despite how much i hated ep 12, ep 13 redeemed it, I don't see how can people still dislike Asuka after all this season, she just grow up into me on all these episodes, Kumiko's Confesion was so beautiful, this was kind of a love/hate relationship, is it possible a third season? everything ended wide open for a third one... i wonder if that ever happens

btw, Shuichi x Kumiko feels so fake, even more fake than KumikoXReina lmao

The end was truly emotional, my heart can't handle Udon no Kiniro Kemari and now this
Somehow this ep felt like the true end game was Kumiko x Asuka lol
Also really liked how the situation between Kumiko and Asuka parallels what happened with her and the sister
Everything was amanzingly done and the final credits made me feel like I was in a movie theater after a 2 hour long session that felt like 20 minutes.
10/10 this is probably tied with Nichijou for my second fav anime by Kyoani

Except it is.
It is implied that Kumiko does feel something for Shuiichi, even if it wasn't explicitly shown.

So yeah, it's not flat out romance because it was not properly developed, but the hints are there.

And so the third years graduate as this season mercifully ends. Yeah this wasn't good. Much of this season revolved around Asuka, but any chance of me liking her went out the window with her role in that garbage level drama that played out during the first 4 episodes. It's great that Kumiko grew to stop hating her, I did not. Reina's infatuation storyline wasn't any good either. Really the only one I enjoyed this season was Kumiko's with her big sister. A pretty astounding downgrade in quality for a sequel to a series I liked. This was so bad though it got me thinking more about the season one drama I disliked and now I think less of it too...that's pretty damning. This was easily the worst show I watched this season. 5/10

I thought it was a pretty heartwarming ending. Maybe it resonated with me so much because I'm a senior who'll be graduating in 100ish days, and I have to leave behind my beloved underclassmen from my running team.

Really happy that they expanded on Taki and Asuka this season. I never expected that this anime could make me cry. I'm also really glad they didn't make Kumiko & Shuuichi canon. There was practically no development there lol.

Anyways, great show! I feel like this is actually a good place to stop. If they make another season (which I doubt), I'd be happy to watch it though :)

This turned a little more dramatic than I thought it was going to be. However, that was not a bad thing in my eyes. KyoAni redeemed themselves with this series. It was beautiful in many ways and a real pleasure to watch. Again, felt a little too dramatic at times and some little relationship factors felt they could of been explored more to make the show more interesting and some characters kind of dropped off completely this season but all and all I don't have much to complain about. It was a well crafted adaptation and KyoAni was the right studio for the job.

Am I the ONLY person who is a bit reserved about Asuka's way of saying goodbye?

I mean, not putting down your mask and armor until the VERY END?

We are talking about leaving ALONE on graduation day, seeing not just SOME junior, but THE precious junior Kumiko come running out, looking SPECIFICALLY for you to say goodbye. We are talking about the girl whom you revealed your family secrets and didn't leak a single word out to anybody else. She is the one who yelled at you at the most important moment to not give up, and the fundamental reason why the sound of your euphonium was acknowledged by your father.

Yet when she reveals that she might have hated you in the past, you try to hide your sadness by laughing it off and saying that you knew it all along, while taking off your glasses and wiping off your SINGLE tear of sadness?

You are SO freaking lucky that a girl like Kumiko would put down all her mask and armor to reveal her true admiration for you. THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN THAT MUCH, ESPECIALLY IN JAPANESE SOCIETY. Each drop of Kumiko's tears is worth more than a freaking diamond. If I were you I would have broken down in tears on the spot and give Kumiko the biggest hug I can ever give.

Yet you manage to keep your cool, send your subtle message via the precious notebook from your father that you claim you "don't need anymore" and CAUSALLY say "see ya" like THAT?

Asuka, WHY, Asuka?!

-I've actually never thought of teaching like that
-Did that mean Green Sapphire and Hazuki were lurking in the shadows when Shuichi gave her the hairpin
-Small detail, but Kumiko's euphonium playing is a bunch clearer than it was in the first season
-Jazz euphonium, although shouldn't the 1st and 2nd years be the ones performing
-Never mind
-There's the competition piece, and it probably has a bunch more meaning behind it being played at the graduation ceremony than the competition.
-Kaori was fingering along with Reina's solo
-Yeah, I'm glad they didn't waste the performance on the competition and instead saved it for the graduation party
-Haruka holding back tears and failing at it will always be adorable
-And there's the first scene of season 2
-rest in pieces reina shippers
-They even made the footprints line up, but I guess they knew the direction they were going before they started broadcasting it
-I always love then the final ending theme for an anime shares a title with the anime itself

So, this episode pretty much made it clear why they chose not to show the performance of the competition piece last episode. The graduation party performance by the underclassmen in the band provided a way to reflect on the progress that both the band has made and the individual characters themselves have made. Pretty much all of the reactions of the third-years to the playing of the underclassmen would have been pretty out-of-place to show during their nationals performance. The little flashbacks were also part of what made the scene so great, and the solos by Reina and Mizore in particular added to the sense of progression, in regards to their musical ability and their personal progressions through this season. So basically, the episode was a pretty great way to reflect on everything using the component of musicianship that made the first season so nostalgic.

Ribbons bitch being the president? Fuck that shit.

Honestly, this season pretty terrible in my opinion. First half of the season is wasted on two characters who are then pretty well forgotten about and never have any contributing role. We have all the yuri-bait and the "I'm 14 and I'm in love with someone probably in their 30s", and even she was completely left out of the last few episodes.

The drama from this season was incredibly over-the-top and unrelatable. Characters were given their little block of attention and then completely left out of the show outside of their little block. The story-writing, in my opinion, was just bad. Why build up Asuka's father so much and that being her dream only to have their "meeting" be by someone else's word of mouth. No rational father and daughter would pretend that's enough, especially when neither of them have any damn reason to not put in the 5 minutes of effort to actually greet each other in person.

I gave an 8/10 to the first season, because it stuck to what it was: an anime about a band class and their efforts to become a team and get into a contest.

This season was just crammed with political bullshit, investing time in relationships that are then forgotten about, with an ending that I felt fell flat.

6/10, I don't want this to get a third season. KyoAni has better things that they can invest their time in.

Anyway, yah I really loved this last episode. Took the series overall from a 7/10 to 8/10 for me, I think it was very fitting how calm it was, seeing the 3rd years graduate and I enjoyed the farewell pieces they both played. Really that final scene was just great though. Seeing Kumiko's sudden outpour of emotion towards Asuka was honestly slightly surprising at first, but it makes sense the more I think about it. I'm so, SO glad they didn't shove Shuuichi x Kumiko in at the end, as I've said over and over it would have been so unfitting considering how they've interacted up to this point. In fact, how they handled relationships in general was pretty stellar.

However, I'm definitely disappointed that we got intense yuri bait at the end of both S1 AND S2 with DIFFERENT girls >_>

I actually got kinda worried that the whole thing was gonna be flashbacks as well but they managed to do it artfully, conveying the nostalgia and reminding all the hardwork and time spent together that will now be gone since the 3rd years are leaving. Plus, I think not hearing the whole song during Nationals kinda made this full playback of the song more rewarding to listen to in its entirety.

Other than that I thought the earlier posts about bonds greater than friendship and the series and episode in general highlighting it was pretty insightful. I kept wondering why they were focusing more on Kumiko and Asuka's relationship more than anything else.

Lastly, the ending, if done a 3rd time would've gotten stale, as it seems Kumiko can't tell the truth with no regrets without breaking down- and making me tear up as well. I thought the best part was when Asuka tried to cheer her up.

The name of the song alluding to the title and playthrough during the credits was a sweet ending as well.

I'm dying. My tears. All the feels. T_T

Really love Asuka, so I'm happy they expanded the Kumiko and Asuka relationship!

And so season 2 ends. As one of my favorite music/drama series, it will be missed.

So, no actual ships happened? Because that would be pretty great.

No. They left the ship for the fans to ponder because ultimately this was not supposed to be a romance anime. Although the hints were already there and a definite ship almost set sail.

Kyoani: Dont worry guys. Kumiko wont end up with Shuichi *wink *wink

HE is a show I'll watch multiple times the way I have the seasons of Aria and Tamayura.

OMG! I watch ARIA and Tamayura from time to time as well. I have added Non Non Biyori to that list and now I have Hibike! Euphonium as well. :)

Did that mean Green Sapphire and Hazuki were lurking in the shadows when Shuichi gave her the hairpin

Not really. Hazuki told Midori that they needed to do something about Kumiko and Shuuichi because by now they have spent enough time with her to know that there is definitely something between the two. Knowing Midori, who has this tendency to act as a cupid just went and told Shuuichi that Kumiko likes Italian Whites (because Kumiko said she thought the flowers were pretty). And so Shuuichi got Kumiko that present. Of course the rest was pretty much a throw in the darkness because the two didn't know what she got as a present but they just assumed that there was something that she got as a present from him.

But she made a mistake and didn't see Midori's scheme here. Perhaps she didn't realize that Midori's intention was always to make Shuuichi buy her a present that Kumuko would like. She thought Shuuichi was just announcing with a mic that he gave her a present. Remember that Shuuichi was honest when he revealed to Kumiko that he got that present after learning it from Midori who enthusiastically told him that Kumiko liked that flower.

Now don't get carried away, Kumiko!

Wasn't her embarrassed face priceless? đź’•

nb. First Hazuki, then Reina, and then Midori and now both Asuka and Aoi are on board with me on this. Any argument with me would be pointless at this point because I have been brainwashed and I only see Kumiko x Shuuichi at the end of the tunnel. :D

I'm really going to miss this show. So Yuko becomes president and natsuki is the view President. Ignoring the fact that I hate Yuko, I still think that the both of them aren't fit for the role. But since this is the ending and there probably won't be a season 3, I guess it doesn't matter.

That teacher makes a great statement for teaching.

The performance was nice especially the Reina solo, ehich reminded me when she became best girl and Yuko worst girl.

That ending showed us how much of a long way Kumiko and Asuka's friendship has grown. I didn't really expect Kumiko to say she hated Asuka. Asuka them gives her her notebook and find out her song is "Hibike! Euphonium" what a title drop. It gives more meaning to the title instead of just the literal "girl with a euphonium playing music".

Which Taki sensei would of had a bigger role this episode.

Guess the Reina and Kumiko shipping was never meant to be. Whatever not a big deal.

This season was better than the first 8 or 9 out of 10. The drama in the first four episodes didn't do much besides strengthen Kumiko as a character. Going to miss this show. At least there's the specials left.

Like K-on this anime makes me wish I hadn't quit playing clarinet a long time ago.

And that's my last fall anime to finish. My list feels so empty right now.

The first half was pretty lacklustre compared to the first season and latter half of this season. However, this season was emotionally stronger.

8/10

P.S. KumikoxAsuka was mah OTP all along!
