I listen to a lot of instrumental music, but when it comes to music with lyrics then I don't really care whether I can understand the lyrics or not. All I want is for the lyrics to sound good, and not being able to understand the lyrics brings an advantage in that department too; even if the lyrics are super pretentious/cringe-worthy it won't bother me xD

For this reason I never ever listen to music with dutch lyrics. Even if the music itself isn't bad, I just can't stand the sound of dutch in music or any other form of medium outside of stand up comedy for all that matters.

Sure, I can name some, but this thread isn't about instrumental music so I'd have to go off topic for that.

Idk why but the only song in my phone is japanese music. Most are from anime op & ed. And if i like that song very much, I will also download the other songs of that singer/band. Currently I have 400+ anime musics and i dont have any single english songs (music which is more proninent in my country)

I'm listening to it every day. And i felt heartbroken when my phone was stolen, I dont have backup for those songs.

J-pop / J-rock is everything to me.

Depends. I listen to a wide range of music from different parts of the world, and my favourites so far might be:

- English
- Norwegian
- Swedish
- French
- Spanish
- German
- Greek
- Russian (meh when spoken, very beautiful when sung imo)

Not in my native language that's for sure. Nowadays, every song, music and lyric they produce are just utter garbage, so much that I have had tendency to ignore and keep away every time I hear them.

I prefer English, despite still struggling to learn to master it, or just without any lyric at all.

I don't really care about the language as long as the music is good and the singing doesn't make me want to stick a screwdriver into my ears. For a while now post-rock has been my favorite genre, and most post-rock songs barely even have any lyrics, if at all.

English, but my Spotify seems to suggest a tonne of German/European rap, and that's not too bad. I'm trying to improve my German, so that's probably helpful. I don't mind Japanese - watching subs has made me enjoy listening to Japanese and trying to pick out words. Spanish is okay, too.

any is fine; i don't really care. but i thought i wouldn't like korean songs but after listening to g-dragon i realized just how easier it is listening to it. i mean it hasn't even been a month i've listened to him and i am already rhyming along with some lines. this hasn't even happened with japanese music. i find korean to roll of the tongue much easier than japanese, even though i can read it and speak some.

No words, only music.
In case there is, I like it when I can't understand the lyrics.
As for my favorites,
- japanese - but I don't listen j-pop, just anime and game soundtracks.
- portuguese - since I really like how the language sound.
- estonian, swedish - almost same as above.
- it's always nice to listen to a unknown language. therefore i'm ok with almost any language (there exist 3 languages, and one musical genre which I cannot see as anything other but torture, nope english is one of them.)

As for english, there are so many songs in english, they could be heard anywhere; so for a long time now it cause only a feeling of monotonous boredom. Which doesn't mean I don't have favorite songs in english, or I dislike the language lol

English. I'd rather listen to music I can actually understand and enjoy. I tried listening to Korean/Japanese music but I only did it for its sake and ended up not listening to those songs more than once. So yeah, short answer is I only listen to English songs.

It depends on the genre of music. I enjoy some stuff with japanese vocals and other stuff with english. sometimes i prefer when there are no vocals and only sothing ambient sounds.

English for most of the time. In some cases I like some specific non-English things like German deathcore such as Shemales from Outta Space of Death and We Butter The Bread with Butter. Besides that, I love instrumentals as well.

English. Although my mother tongue is spanish I find music in spanish to be....boring. There are some exceptions to this though, as the couple seen below:

Both of those songs narrate short stories. The first one about a teacher just trying to do his job in that magical period of history known as Francoist Spain and how that eventually led to his execution. The second one is a song about a gypsy wishing to the moon for a kid which resulted in a white kid from two non-white parents and of course the husband of the woman that made the wish believing his wife betrayed him.

This is something that I think spanish excells at and yet is barely exploited in music; narrative. There are so many bullshit gramatical rules that you have to follow to write a good story, about as twice as much as English, and people just don't bother with them.

I have all the songs in my library tagged with their language, so this was nice and easy to calculate. Excluding instrumental pieces, the division is:
Italian: 26.78%
French: 24.31%
German: 22.54%
Japanese: 8.67%
English: 8.06%
Latin: 4.46%
Russian: 2.7%
Czech: 1.76%
Greek: 0.64%
Sindarin: 0.05%
Quenya: 0.02%

Oh God. I have more Japanese songs in my library than ones in my mother tongue. I think I'm a weeb.

I like my Japanese songs. But Vietnamese music is great because I can understand most of it. Though the most important part of a song isn't the lyrics in my opinion. It's the melody. That's why I like my Japanese music I can't understand.

Really, I must have a problem with listening comprehension or something because I can very rarely understand the lyrics for ~95% of music that is in English.

Considering Japanese and asians in general are more into what I like as composition, I will say Japanese music would be my predilection. I don't usualy like what North American pop sounds like or whatever plays at the radio. Although, more than half the music I listen to is instrumental, I still like lyrics, when they are not the usual ''fuck bitch get yo ass here'' I hear all the god damn time at the radio.

My iPod has like 15 different languages on it, mostly Japanese (again, because I love their composition), some English and French (very littel tbh, even if it's my native language), and stuff like Latin, Russian, German, Italian, Chinese... hell, I even some Hungarian and Finnish songs... so why not? I also have something called Djurdjevdjan from an old DDR like game called Stepmania I had, I could find the song on internet, but I never figured out what language this is.

I actually like Japanese music not really because of the language (though that is a factor) but due to the actual composition of music. I read somewhere that a lot of music is either happy or sad, but apparently Japanese music often has a melancholic feel. I like that in music, and if you can show me songs in other languages with a sort of melancholic sad or nostalgic feel, I will probably enjoy it. Personally, I have not found too many.
