Tokyo Ghoul at the top ~

Also nice to see Hormiya on this list. Anime adaptation soon? I can feel it. And a proper TV one hopefully.

Junji Ito's Cat Diary?

Not really surprised that much. Good to see OPM still there.

Naruto volumes are selling like hot cakes in the US..so there isn't many people who would wait until the 3rd or 4th week after the volume releasing to buy it..

Too competent male lead for otakus to self-insert. Jokes aside, I don't think there is enough of a market for shoujo adaptations nowadays. It either goes for male audience or full-on fujoshi nosebleeds. Of course, we get shoujos once in a while, but I wouldn't hold false hopes.

Also, no news for a while after the end of Hori-san to Miyamura-kun OVA may show lack of interest in the franchise. We got announcements at the end of Mushishi special and hints in Angel Beats special, but nothing of sorts in this case.

Would be nice tho.

You will be disappointed in the sales number if they were shown. Best not to show it.

You mean "disappointed" as in disappointed in the manga industry in the US in comparison to the Japanese counterpart?

I found this link to the sales estimates of graphic novels(including manga ofc) in the US market for September. Seeing this may give you a rough idea as to how small the market is.

I may have missed some manga titles but these are what I found:

#44 - NARUTO GN VOL 72 - 2,222
#72 - TOKYO GHOUL GN VOL 03 - 1,663
#119 - ONE PUNCH MAN GN VOL 01 - 1,117
#131 - ONE PUNCH MAN GN VOL 02 - 1,027
#224 - CLAYMORE GN VOL 27 - 616

Source: http://icv2.com/articles/markets/view/32773/top-300-graphic-novels-actual-september-2015

Edit: I don't know about Naruto vol 72 release date but I know TG vol 3 release date which was on 20 of October IIRC. So, I haven't the slightest idea as how they're able to get these data from. Unless they included the digital copy which had an earlier release date.

The nr. 1 spot only sells maybe 1 or 2 thousand on average.

Thought Naruto would have lasted a bit longer, but I guess most of the hardcore fans already bought their copies in the first couple weeks.

Waiting to see how JoJo fares on the charts next week, my guess is not good considering continued domination by TG.

TG continues its domination.

Volume 1 has been on that list for 20 weeks. Its following the footsteps of Aot's volume 1.

Nice to see Tokyo Ghoul and Akame ga Kill.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

Dunno but those seem like sales for digital copy. On the other hand, ICv2 released the list for the month of october and it seems Naruto's volume 72 was second again like volume 71. OPM volume 2 couldn't make the list and TG still dominating the top 5

Honestly speaking, I wouldn't be surprise if all of Tokyo ghoul volume follow the foot step of snk vol 1. Reason is, because I feel the reason why only snk vol 1 alone keeps showing up in the top 10 is because people tried it out and didn't like the art IMO the art in the first few volumes are terrible and that might have put people off. The other volumes for snk does sell well as well, but volume 1 sales is just bigger compare to the other volumes. 1 think volume 1 sold over 50k last year and volume 2 sold like 30k.

On the other hand I think Tokyo ghoul early volume art is pretty good so I don't think people are going to be turn off by it, so realistically the same amount of people buying volume 1 will most likely buy volume 2. Not to mention the fact that Tokyo anime wasn't faithful to the manga which is more motivation to buy the manga. While snk already has a faithful adaption and a second season incoming.

I could be wrong. But we shall see.

The BD sales statistics in Japan are listed and it's rare for something to go over 10,000, and most average 3,000. This is a marginally smaller market, but is around equal to it as both are very niche.

Not expecting NY Times charts to ever change this, but it certainly would give a better visualization how well something is actually doing.

I highly doubt that's going to happen, cause if it were to be the case, vol.2 would have still being selling more than volume 1 (since it was released later) but given that vol.1 has been outselling it for a while, it means that there are already people dropping it.

No they haven't been on the list longer than other attack in titan volume. Just like how you seen Tokyo ghoul dominating the charts it was the same for snk in 2013/2014.

I don't know when was the last time the other snk volume came off the list and never comes back, probably in early 2015. but in this link volume 2 was on the list for 27 weeks and this was in may 2014. www.nytimes.com/best-sellers-books/2014-05-18/manga/list.html too early to make that statement. No Tokyo ghoul volume currently has been on the list that long, so that statement was far too early to say.

@agafin maybe I'm overestimating Tokyo ghoul. That's Pretty good point I did not look at.
