SAO survival = get killed in real life LH survival = competition in raids and opposing guilds(S2). No, thats a rather far-fetched comparison of "survival of the finest". The respawn system of LH already contrasts the theme. And as I will state again, the only reason you can compare the two is because they both have the "RPG theme" which is the only thing you can consider the same. Might as well compare every game genre to SAO if we consider that. People might actually take that as an insult actually. If anything is close to SAO, it will be Btooom. yes, LH is better. But it doesn't look better if you compare it to SAO. Not because SAO is inferior, but because they're completely different in their approach regarding the "trapped in virtual world" concept. |

| I love SAO (all my previous avatars have been Kirito), and the reason I love it is because of the emotions it can draw out of me. Episode one was interesting. Even though it wasn't original, I still enjoy the concept of being stuck in a game looking for a way out, if there is a way out. Episode three made me cry. The final episodes of the first arc were ridiculously feel good and cute, I liked watching Kirito and Asuna fall in love in a very real and non sexualized way. It was true love, an attempt to potray true love, and even though their relationship gets steamy behind the scenes in various cannon games and other mediums, it never does in the show. I judge the quality of something based on the emotions it can pull from me, and SAO drew a lot of different kinds out of me. Therefore, no matter what popular opinion says, I think the show is fantastic. |

| Let's see if we can salvage anything from this thread. SAO has some good ideas. The premise is clever. People are trying to escape from a video game they probably bought in order to escape life. The idea that some will just give up on clearing the game and try to make a life in SAO is brilliant. There's some psychology to explore there. Sadly, it never develops these enough. There's too much technobabble and the second arc consists of fighting a senseless bad guy. |

| im pretty sure the danger of death in SAO only happens in the first 14 eps or so (an to be honest that danger dissapears even earlier when the mc starts to level up his plot armor an harem around ep 5), majority of SAO is just like in Log horizon, players are safe an death has no consequence |

Kirito leaving random support chars to die is something really typical of Battle Royale. If the plot doesn't justify it it's just lazy writing/plot holes, but trust me, I'm not talking totally out of the blue, there's a huge Tron+Battle Royale influence here. Battle Royale isn't just about mindless last-man standing either, the island is an enemy on it's own, participants have to form teams during the first days (at least to be able to sleep) and two other participants are here to play the role of NPCs (an ex Battle Royale winner and a psycho guy). Teenagers trying to win a game where defeat = death is a quite common theme in Japanese culture. |

| The review from the user LLYNCES pretty much sums up my opinion on SAO, especially the "it felt like the anime was trying to make me care but failing hard" part. The anime was enjoyable as an action flick with some extras, but the storytelling couldn't get much worse. It's good enough if you're not expecting anything. |

| I love SAO's first season and it definately is one of my favorite arcs in any anime. This doesn't means that I hate the other seasons, I also like them but the first was unarguably my favorite. Secondly, I know you automatically are considered "cool" nowadays if you start hating SAO and I've seen a lot of people do it just for that reason. Even before starting it, they develope the mindset to hate it just for the sake of being considered "cool". However, I'm a simple guy, I'd rather accept what I love than being the slave of soceity and try to adjust myself between them. I don't care if people hate me for what I like or get bashed for what I like, atleast it'll be me liking what I want to like and be true to myself. There was a time when SAO had genuine haters with reasonable arguements but nowadays the new ones are just doing it because everyone does. I don't know if it's jelously but haters nowadays are quite insecure as to not let the recent watchers like it. |

| Interesting and great concept, but sloppy execution and poor writing ruined it. Potential wasted due to shortcomings and incompetence of the author. The first 3 episodes are legitimately great though. And i enjoyed the gun gale online arc of the second season. |
