Hmm, slow but interesting episode.

I liked Takuya's cameo in the story here since he is a respected player. Regarding Eiichirou...I think it's nice that the series is acknowledging his skills after training in America. The match was okay I guess.

Nishimura relying on that old data, being the fastest growing player in his club does sound promising.

This episode really just goes to show how much Ei-chan has improved in just a year.

How Miyagawa struggled to face his weakness, while Ei-chan deliberately went to challenge his own weaknesses, all the indirect praises to Ei-chan!

The match against Miyagawa should be quite enjoyable.

Went right into the tournament, I thought there was more in-between the tournament and last episode. Maybe not.
Great episode though.

Kind of sucks for Nishimura, but feeling somewhat confident from old data is not the best way to go. Even Ei-chan knew to expect more from Miyagawa, although he didn't expect the drive volley. It's good to see that Oobayashi wasn't thrown away to the side, and that despite him not wanting to go pro, he was a big help to Miyagawa and gave Miyagawa a very good advice that has led to Miyagawa's new and deadly drive volley. Ei-chan will no doubt struggle against this, I'm looking forward to their game!

Maruo and Miyagawa serving up fresh bagels in their first round match-ups. Delicious setup for this match-up between them.

Honestly, Miyagawa had quite an unfortunate draw with Maruo being in his section as an unseeded player. Welp, this makes for an awesome match for us. :D

This is going to be an exciting match, even though Ei-chan has to win for sure or his training wouldn't make any sense.

Yeah I figured Miyagawa would learn the swinging volley (drive volley). It fits in perfectly with his baseline strokes

Man, I was like, seriously Araya? You really don't think Eiichiro improved over the past year? He was still looking down on him so much. But man, Eiichiro took his opponent down like he was nothin'. (Well, he kinda was nothing...)

Also Miyagawa is really cute now with his hair like that, haha. Looks like next week will get more exciting!

A solid episode. Maruo wiped the floor with Araya's junior. Was fun. And yes, I feel his match with Miyagawa's gonna be as good as his previous match. Can't wait for this next match.

Sadly both of their future professionalism is affected by this match, one loses and one wins. That's life :(
Even though I am cheering for both, knowing that our main character went this far, they can't make him lose right?

Man i wanted to see the look on Araya's face when Eiichirou destroyed his junior xD

Good episode, i like the fact that Ei-chan isn't the only one that's betting everything on this tournament.

I really feel like Araya respects Maruo. Ever since he greeted him after a tournament in season 1 I felt this way, and the way he told his friend to shut up because he was talking makes me feel this more so. It's cool seeing such big, loud, and aggressive player treat Maruo the way he does.
I found Nishimura's meeting with Maruo to be similar to when Maruo first started and was meeting the best players, it was charming to see Maruo get eyed up as a big fish by the little guy. How the times have changed.

Maruo destroyed his first opponent in a way we haven't seen before in so much detail. There was one match in season 1 in which he won in a similar fashion but it was hardly shown. He has improve immensely. That being Takuya showed he's even better than last time we saw him too.

I love how we're seeing more to Takuma and now Takuya. Takuya's background showed a slump and showed how he broke out of it with Ryou's help. This is something I felt was missing in season 1 and, although we are only getting it when necessary, it's certainly a good thing. On top of that we're even seeing more paths the characters can go, thematically however small Baby Steps is opening up with Ryou showing that it's perfectly okay to put your future in university ahead of pro tennis. Lots of changes I appreciate this season.

The Maruo vs Takuya rematch should be great, in fact it's already started so. I said something last season about how I wish shounen anime would characterize tournament arcs like Baby Steps does by making all the opponents play to win in a similar way to the protagonist, with a similar amount on the line. This tournament is the epitome of that with characters we love fighting for a spot in the future, fighting to pursue their dreams, each after putting in so much work. It's intense, and stressful, and no matter who wins(although Maruo has to to continue the anime) there will be some melancholy to it. This is awesome.

Maruo absolutely slapped up Nishimura in that first round, looks like he grew massively from the old data that Nishimura got provided by Araya when he played Maruo himself.

But that 2nd round match with Miyagawa is looking tough. Both have improved massively from the time they faced each other initially, so it should be a see-saw battle till the end, exciting for a one-set clash.

Also, the moment he had with Natsu with the double high-five for encouragement was cute, although maybe a little embarrassing for Maruo at the same time given a bunch of guys got some vibes from him and her together like that lol.
