i think all the star wars parody films and tv show episodes have just desensitised me from being able to take the star wars setting seriously.

At the moment.... not really impressed. But that Millennium Falcon shot was pretty neat.

88 seconds of teaser is nothing but still better than nothing. Just hope that Abrams doesn't ruin the new trilogy because he has a great responsability with SW saga.

The "I'm evil and intimidating" voice comes off as try-hard, and for some reason reminds me of The Avengers. And not in a good way.

It sounds and looks like a video game.

Huge horrible MEH so far.

FIrst few shots felt like a fanfilm.

The broadsword lightsaber is just...wat.

THey were better off adapting something from Expanded Universe than this shit.

I'm still mad EU is not canon anymore.
Considering this is from JJ Abrams and under the Disney household, I rather keep my expectations low and have a pleasant surprise if it turns out good.

AS far as I am concerned this is the fanfic and EU is still the true canon.

I don't give a crap about the EU. The movies are all that matters.

Nice to see a new dish on it after what Lando did during the Battle of Endor.

What I'd be more concerned about are the two extensions from which the crossguard is emitted. An attacker's lightsaber could cut through those or during a crossguard parry the attacker could cut off the "blade". I like this version:
https://tctechcrunch2011.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/crosssaberimproved1.jpg?w=1024&h=529

I don't like the phony voice. Also, why do we have to return to Tatooine again? What's so special about that distant wasteland planet that it makes it's way into nearly every movie. It's unbelievably coincidental. I hope we won't get another hero who grew up there.

But the movie looks nice, from what little can be gathered from that teaser and the leaked concept art.

Said no fan ever.

@The Lightsaber:
It is not a guard. Actually, that's not even a solid saber. It's an unstable wannabe, with either a bad crystal or a too powerful one. What looks like a dual guard is an exhaust to stabilise the plasma stream.
...and you'd know this if you cared about the EU ;)

If that's true, I'm sure it will be made apparent in the movie. The movies can borrow some ideas from the EU, but I want them to be made without any concern for them. I never will care about the EU.

I already noticed it's not an ordinary saber. It looks fiery. I guess that would explain why the exhaust appeared second. I thought that was odd before.

I think it looks great so far. We have Benedict Cumberbatch narrating the scenes, which lead me to believe he is some type of Jedi Master. The girl on the land speeder is most likely daughter of Han an Leia. Storm troopers are getting a little love in this film it appears. The upgrade Falcon looks simply badass. I have no issues with the broadsword lightsaber. A lot of people got pissy when Maul debuted the double edge saber. Some people are just intent on being unhappy with the film no matter what.

alot of it actually wont be, there's a ton of practical effects alot of which you can see in the trailer. Thats one of the very few takeaways from the trailer.

Meh. But to be fair, I was never the biggest Star Wars fan to begin with. The lightsaber was just dumb. Other than that, it looks like a standard Star Wars movie.

Am I the only one who apparently liked the trailer? Other than that goofy lightsaber, I thought the special effects looked much less cartoonish than the prequels and much more in line with a proper modern reimagining of Star Wars. I think Abrams is going to be much better off doing Star Wars than Star Trek.

I liked it too. It also looked cleaner than the prequels. There was less happening on screen. In that way it's more like the original trilogy. I'm expecting the duels (choreography) to be similarly less extravagant and more grounded. I also really like that they kept the old designs but updated them. The new X-Wing looks nice. People think it's inspired by concept art for the first Star Wars.

Still way WAY too early to say whether the film is going to be bad or good just from this teaser alone.

Other than that, why nitpick the small details like the lightsaber design? We are finally having another return to the galaxy far, far away. I think that is already plenty of reason to get excited.

As for the lightsaber design, its based on the Crossguard Lightsaber or Forked Lightsaber from the Expanded Universe.

I did not see any special effects (hence the fanfilm vibe), It felt like filmed in someone's backyard.

Its still very early days, those shots were probably created just for the trailer itself. Its more like a quick tease of what will be coming sort of like a pitch teaser. I imagine all the cgi and shots are still very much in post right now, which is why the teaser is so short.

I thought that too, which is why I think every shot in the trailer was made for the teaser and quickly. I doubt it represents what the film will look like. Think of it like a short pilot for a tv show, when a show is picked up lots change from the few minute footage they shoot to sell the idea.

This teaser was made just to get hype and sell the movie, I doubt any of the shots we saw will even be in the film.

That or its one big prank/joke.
