Lol, the apron.

It was an okay episode, felt a bit slow though. We also get some outdoor observation with flowers which I thought is refreshing. Wish the series focused a bit more outdoors though. Really liked the more relaxed feeling of the girls working together this episode.

Dreams seem to be the focus this week, along with the animators trying to help out Ema. It was kinda sweet watching the grandfatherly Sugie watching from close yet afar. The scene at the end about making their debut was also pretty sweet, plus the sisters' moment.

A slow yet interesting episode.
They focused on their dreams and helped out Ema to get over her animator crisis.
Miyamori-nee-san was a bit overexcited maybe because she doesn't really like her workplace... But that was cute.
The outdoor scene with Ema was beautiful and well drawn.
I'm learning English so maybe I make mistakes :)

Enjoyed the chill atmosphere and laid-back nature of the episode. It was kind of necessary when we think about what previously happened.

Tarou has very high hopes of becoming a director or a producer, when he can barely hold his position as a production assistant.

Hopefully now Ema can rest assured she will gradually get better later on, without too much undue stress. Iguchi gave her very good pointers.

Seems Ema got over her slump with the help of her senpai it's nice to have people who care around you.
Older people in general usually they don't work as hard as the younger staff but they are respected and they look more at their surroundings so they know what's going on.

A great easygoing episode, the break was really nice.

Good thing that Ema was able to overcome her struggle, the scene with her and Iguchi-san walking outside was really great. so this what Miyazoki once mentioned, that in order for people to draw something good that attract the viewer they need to go outside, and look at things the way they are, not just drawing fantasies.

Tarou's dream of becoming a director/producer will always be a dream. It's funny how he has such a high ambition when he can barely manage his current position.
Even Honda's girly dream of being a cake-baker is plausible enough compared to his.

Nice seeing Iguchi taking Ema out for a walk to relieve her off of the stresses. That was quite helpful as she's now able to draw at a good pace. (^^)

Decent episode. Aoi seemed a bit worried about what's her own dream, and I'm sure it's to become a donuts taster. XD

Heh Tarou said he wants to a director who's famous like "Miyazaki Isao and Hosokawa Yuzuru."
The first referring to both Miyazaki Hayao and Takahata Isao. Not sure about the second one though?

Really liked the scene where Iguchi takes Ema out on a walk. She was really down in the dumps, but it must be good to have someone tell her that everyone starts out by copying others, that not everyone is "talented" but they that they became good at what they do after years of experience. Also, it was cute when Ema was observing the kitty ^^ I'm glad she's motivated one again.

Nee-san's job looks incredibly boring and monotonous. I feel bad for her. Though that is the reality of most jobs anyway. It was good to see her let loose at Tokyo!

Glad that the conflict with Ema was resolved. Looks like you just need a simple break once in a while to even things out.

Kaori with a job like that, glad she was able to release it a little in the city.

Honda in that apron xD

It was really nice to see Sugei looking out for Midori like that. Learning from Iguchi about their secret place being passed down through each animator ^^ Definitely nice to see Ema going through the slump after taking a walk.

For everyone saying that it felt slow I don't really understand what you're talking about. The pacing of the series has been pretty much the same every episode and like the others I thought this was great.

Now that's a golden quote right there!

I can understand Ema's trouble. Animating animals is always a pain in the ass.. it looks simple but it's hard to capture an accurate movement.

At least the score is slowly but surely increasing every week, so you should be happy about that. =D

Back on topic, I'm glad that Ema has regained her confidence to draw well again. Sometimes taking a break from a stressful environment and walking around a peaceful town or countryside can put your mind at ease, letting the stress fade away.

That way, when you return to work again, your mind is clear and fresh so you can get on with the jobs at hand without any worries. Overall, a slow but great episode. =D

I can't understand that too. Maybe too many characters and non-straightforward plot structure confuses people, and this show might have been hard for some viewers to get into.
I am sure if the series delivers in the end, people will come back to this show and see how good it is.

She's working in a big company and doing a job that she obviously does not enjoy.
I think her character is supposed to the be opposite of the main group. She works in an environment she hates but she earns a lot of money while the main group is trying their best to find/reach their dream even if it may not pay much in the end.

I am sure that this is a classic.

On the other hand, a lot of people want to come home from work, turn their
brains off and watch a more typical anime series. So it doesn't surprise me
that some people are rating it low.

After all, Aoi's neighbor stays up all night watching Dostoyevsky movies for fun.

i like how they showed a little bit of the sister's life. seems like she's a banker of some sort and surrounded by assholes, but at least it pays well lol.

hopefully all will work out for them in 3-5 years. who knows, maybe the annoying kid really does become a director and joins up with them. never rule out what a person can become in a few years. people can change in a blink of an eye if you're not looking. in the future, the sister will be the financial backer of their project, aoi the producer, cg girl, VA, animation, and writing, they got it all!

And this is one of the reasons why she is the best girl of this series. Let alone that she genuinely wants to try her best. Not that the other girls do that but we get to see her character development the most.

Ahh, it's nice seeing drawing treated like it should be - you have to learn it. I feel like most people not interested in it treat it like some supercelestial talent that you get out of nowhere and it's so disrespectful to people who spend YEARS on it lel

The old mentor knows what he should do indirectly when one of his youngest pupil is stuck. If he had told Ema Yasuhara (the girl who was struggling to draw the cat) some tips or whatever directly again, she would have taken them as another suggestion or instruction she must obey, which could ended up with just adding more pressure uselessly.

I remember that this term "Gestaltzerfall", comes up in the subs for Episode 1
of "Watamote". At that time, I had no idea what it meant, so I looked it up.
Basically, it seems that it is a new technical term which is used in Psychology.
Here is a non-technical article about Episode 1 of Watamote which mentions it:

http://animediet.net/reviews/anime-reviews/watamote-epi-1-is-so-epic-gestaltzerfall

When you have a word that is only used by research specialists in Psychology, it
certainly does not belong in subs. However, it seems that the equivalent word
in Japanese, "Geshutaruto hōkai" (written ゲシュタルト崩壊), comes up more often.
In fact, Wikipedia says, "Gestaltzerfall refers to a psychological phenomenon
where delays in recognition are observed when a kanji character is stared at
for a while." Besides that, the Wikipedia editor complained that this word is
really a "neologism", i.e. a new made-up word. If that is the case, then it is
technically not yet an English word. So it should not be used in English subs.

See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestaltzerfall

Tweeted 16 hours ago from the official website for the series. There are ten new

They also posted the preview to Episode 9, which was shown after the ED last week:

The girls could make their own anime if they wanted to.

Miyamura's sister looks so bored at her job, and she gets blamed for stuff she didn't do. I'd hate to be in her place.

Ema seems to have returned to her usual self, she's now motivated thanks to Iguchi taking out for a talk.
