| It's just me that found this ep a bit confusing? It was enjoyable but at the same time some things didn't made much sense. Like, if the Raven Consort never left her home for the previous emperors' problems why now she had to leave? If she has magic does she really need to go out like an inspector? Also, a bit weird that no one suspected why a court lady from another quarter was just there a full day without a superior looking for her... It was enjoyable but this annoyed me a bit... |

| As everyone already knows that mystery and supernatural are the top two among my favorite genres.. So it feels like this anime has been on my plans to watch list forever.. this is actually a Light Novel that got licensed just recently in the summer and I've read it, so this is not my first experience with the story. And I've got to say, the first impression of the anime it makes is definitely a lasting one! A Chinese dynasty as the root for the story is a great decision thanks to the drama and happenings of the age, and the added twist of the mystery and magic finds a perfect niche to comfortably settle into. More than anything, I'm actually really impressed with the visuals and creativity. They really did a solid job in terms of fidelity, but keep a lot of style in it as well, especially with the flashbacks which seem incredibly well done and perfectly tailored to the feeling that they want to illicit. Shouxue and the other characters are really interesting personals and unique. I love the opulence and simplicity of them all, remaining really accurate to that time period. Shouxue's visuals for when she uses magic were also *really* impressive, not at all what I was expecting out of it. Though the cinematography was also a cut above expectations as well really, they convey they melodrama really well without making it feel dry, they really do their best to draw out as much of the emotion as possible which I can appreciate. Now about the story, in that this is supposed to be a show following the mysteries of the palace that Shouxue will work to solve, but they did an excellent job of setting that up this episode. Talks about ghosts and the terrors of the night that were left behind by the people that came before, and explaining the source of some mysteries. Like the ghost that can't speak, it's a "common" trait of ghosts that have been hanged or hanged themselves to not be able to speak, and to cover that then and there was really solid. In the same breath, Xia Gaojun plays an interesting opposition in the land of the living and reality where information and evidence is what he wants. His backstory was really well done, though I was a bit concerned at first when they didn't really show it but just talked about it. Thankfully, the show knew better than me and had the perfect spot to place it, and gave his character some really solid exposition, as the just and true emperor. Overall, there's definitely going to be a *bit* of a learning curve for this story given its circumstances and setting, but they've done a really great job of setting it up. Lots of mystery with Shouxue and her color changing hair and consort marking, the deaths within the palace, Empress Dowager, and so much more. Add on top the surprisingly well done visuals, the really great dramatic voice acting, and the impressively alluring soundtrack, The Raven of The Inner Palace is setting itself up for a really solid season. Though, unsurprising as its Light Novel has been really popular. Looking forward to it ! |

| This felt narrative-wise "constipated" but maybe it just because is the first episode and it have to set what the major intrigue is (her being a descendant of the previous dynasty and all it might entail, him trying to take down the empress lawfully). Some part were bland when it came to the animation but others were nice. The whole consorts drama reminded me of "Raise the Red Lantern", love that film. |

I hope that the information vomit is not the trend of the series RobertBobert said: Is it definitely female-targeted? The female characters seem to be much more elaborate in appearance than the male ones. Yeah I got the same vibe. The character's behavior screams the demographic, but it is not too alienating either |

| The eerie quality of this first episode is a tasty treat. MC isn’t annoying, though I wish she was a bit older than 16. I hope they reveal more of her background as the show goes along and keep the supernatural bits. Seems like a nice show for the fall season. |
| Interesting first episode, I can't recall watching an anime with a Chinese dynasty-type theme but I'm intrigued. Plus this has mystery-type genre vibes so it's made me curious where this goes. |

| This is most likely my brain being too slow in absorbing information or it could be because I rarely watch historical anime, but I feel that there is quite a lot of information/explanations being dropped at one time.. I was a little confused when I heard Jiujiu and the other lady's explanation about the emperor's concubines. Maybe because of the difference in name too but I don't feel bothered by the difference in their names. Even so it was interesting. That scene at the end was unexpected so I'm curious about what will happen :D |

| Never seen an anime with ancient Chinese setting before. I really like the asthatic of this show. The art and animation was very prity. Love the character design and also the music is great. Overall it's a solid first episode. |

| Oh boy, okay, that was a lot of information and unfamiliar names. When the episode ended I could barely remember who did what in the past, and who the silver hair belonged to. Probably gonna have to rewatch it. So, first things first. I liked it! Looks like we're gonna have a bit of a mix of supernatural and court intrigue, which sounds quite interesting. Shouxue does some stuff with her powers, but also acts sort of like a detective, going around asking a bunch of questions. And looks like she's from the previous dynasty, the Luan? Supposed to have been exterminated by the Yandi? Hmmm. I thought the soundtrack was pretty good too. It was pretty. And the characters were pretty. Everything is so pretty. Definitely going to watch the next episode! |
