Again not to be rude but my friend said that and I can't get it out of my head

On a more serious note can someone explain what the creature in the opening is I've seen the anime 3 times and still don't get it

You'd be surprised to see how many C-Dramas are set in the Rear Palace background, that doesn't make them all Walmart versions of a show that came out a year ago.

This show leans more towards mystery/supernatural, while Apothecary Diaries is focused on mysteries and comedy more than anything. I like this slightly better because it takes itself more seriously, while Apothecary can be a bit too comedic at times.

The creature is a goddess who possesses the body of the Raven Consort. I'm pretty sure it was stated clear as day in the show.

This anime deals with a completely different things mainly supernatural, while it does have a similar setting.

This series is really good and underrated, I recommend this series to people that enjoy Apothecary Dairies. There’s no reason to put this series down.

I'd say the first 2 or so episodes were quite rough in the way how the story progressed way too smoothly, but other than that, the only similarities are the setting which are inspired by china's forbidden palace and solving various incidents ala mystery novel

Apothecary Diaries is rooted in medical knowledge, etc. that might not be as commonplace back then (and even now to a certain extent), while this focuses more so on its supernatural elements, especially as the show goes on

The very nature of the cases explored in both shows are too different due to the previous points, where the former is harshly logical, any case believed to be supernatural has a completely rational explanation, the latter makes use of its supernatural elements for a more fantasy feel, incidents that cannot be replicated no matter how hard you try due to ghosts not being real, etc.

Think of comparing Star Trek to Star Wars, they might have a few common elements but ultimately are telling 2 entirely different stories to the point that claiming one as the lesser of the two misses the entire point of both shows

Tell me you havent watched the show without telling me you havent watched the show LOL. It is nothing like the apothecary diaries… unless every show that takes place in a similar setting is like an anime that got released after this was out 😭😭 tell your friend to do some basic research pls
