Only on MAL, not in real life.

But in real life I don't know many people as it is, they don't know and they probably wouldn't care.
Everyone in the community is shit taste.

It is so dense. Every single image has so many things going on.

No I'm not embarrassed about it, my friends and family members know that I watch anime, they still tease me about it (ignorant fools xD) but I don't care at all

Am I going to be viewed as shallow if I say yes?
I still go to school, which is a place vastly full of those who will judge others for fickle things. I mean, I receive racist comments most days merely for my ancestry, so if such people knew I liked anime I'd probably be only more severely teased.
Also, although I am female, my tastes are quite "boyish". There are some girls who like anime who I know in real life, but I'd never talk to them because our tastes differ substantially.

When people ask me about me hobbies I often tell them that anime is one of them, and if they respond with negativity I just respond with saying "I don't give a flying fuck".

So the answer is obviously no.

Some anime is understandably shameful to say you enjoy. I mean some of it is really ecchi stuff - it's akin to saying you like watching softcore porn in your free time. The problem is a lot of people have that as their dominating preconception about anime in general so if you say the word, "anime," they associate it with that image of it (or some other negative preconception they hold). So the short answer is yes, because their understanding and mine is different. I can't really control how they perceive anime, and I don't feel like going through the hassle of explaining to them what I enjoy about it, since I have no interest in justifying my interests nor spreading the word about anime.

I openly tell people that I like anime.

Friend-"So what have you been up to lately?"
Me-"I started a blog about anime."

Girl-"What do you do in your spare time?"
Me-"I watch Japanese cartoon and go online and post about Japanese cartoons."

Mom-"What are you doing?"
Me-"Watching a really good anime show."
Mom-"You should do something more valuable with your time."
Me-"Whatever."

I know when you're young your parents probably taught you to accommodate and respond to other people, but they're wrong. And the sooner you learn to drop the child's act the more fulfilling your life will be. And as a side effect, the less insecure edgy posts there will be on MAL.

I'm open about it.. A lot of the time me and my mates just spend the weekend crashing out just drinking and watching anime together all day and night. It's a great life style.. Nothings wrong with watching anime.

Nope, I'm not embarrassed to admit it, although I don't go telling everyone like a typical otaku/weeaboo either. If someone asks me, I'll tell them. I currently use a Vampire Knight bag at College so that people know I like anime without me directly telling them. People ask me about it sometimes, which is how I find people to talk to it about in College every now and then.

It happens quite often to me :D my friends a have this common thought that anime is childish cuz they only know Pokemon, Digimon or Dragonball. Its not very good with girls either. Some people around show quite a bit of interest into SnK though ^^

I don't like how people look at anime fans.

Get ready for story time guys
So I live at an all boys boarding school atm
17 y/o
Watching clannad all weekend
Get to the feels in after story
Have to watch in the toilets on my tablet cos I cry too much
Tfw places I can cry are the bathroom and in daddys arms
Feels occur
Cry my fucking eyes out
Final episode
Literally bawling my self to dehydration
Hear someone say "You algood bro?"
Shit
"Uh yeah I'm just having problems cos my mother is in hospital....."
Make up bullshit story to cover my ass
"OK man if you need anyone to talk to just ask"
Moment is completely ruined
Return to crying
Finish series
Wipe eyes and make a hasty escape
Make it look like I was in my room the whole time
That guy still doesn't know it was me

That's not quite the same thing as embarrassment. Yeah, I feel a bit embarrassed about liking anime sometimes. But I never feel ashamed of it.

OT: I've had relatively good experiences telling people I like anime. No one in my dorm seems to give a fuck and I found out some of my friends were closet otakus just like me :P

Yeah back then when I was as a kid, but now since its more widespread than ever most people I meet at least spent a certain amount of time watching the more popular ones. Especially finding out people who I would never thought of picking up anime like my older relatives suddenly marathon'd Attack on Titan. (I'm actually quite grateful for the anime because it brought in a ton of new fans).
Plus I'm known to be weird and oddball-ish so people would expect me to watch em.

I don't see why people would be embarrassed to watch anime. Well I guess they should be if they watch a whole bunch of moeshit. Iv'e always been open about it and walk around wearing anime shirts and I have an anime backpack that I use for school. The only things that I would be embarrassed about if tons of people knew that I read yaoi manga, though I still probably wouldn't give a crap.

My parents aren't exactly accepting about my interests in anime, kpop, and Asian culture overall so around them, yes extremely. With kids my age, not really. I don't exactly come out and say I like it so if no one knows I don't have anything to be embarrassed about. And I only tell people about my interest in anime if I know they won't tease me for it. Its not an embarrassment thing, its just a "do you think they'll tease me?" thing.

I don't mind if it's shounen anime such as Naruto, Bleach, FMA etc - but I definitely wouldn't want to be seen watching an anime such as Clannad and people see me crying like a dumb bitch.

I was usually only embarassed when people said mean things or tried to annoy me about it. My dad use to do the whole "bad lisyncing joke" like people make fun of old kungfuu movies for. And I had to guys, one in highschool and one in undergrade make a scene because I had a picture of a feminine looking male character and they said I was gross and yelled that I was into watching gay sex. But that's just people being jerks, in general, not embarassed by it.

well i do only have 1 friend that enjoys anime and we watch it together occasionally whenever i see him, my girlfriend and parents and stuff know i watch it, i don't minimize the screen or pause it or anything when they come into the room, i wouldn't say i would randomly tell people i watch it though, tbh i always promised myself i wouldn't because before getting into anime i did kinda see it as a little geeky and not very interesting but now im watching it daily so proves you need to try something before you pre-judge

Why would they tease an 11-15 year old about anime being childish.. or is 11 considered adult now? haha. Some silly people were around you back then. Anyway, nah, probably because I don't really watch SoL stuff.

Not really, i do not watch Anime in front of other people, i hide the Anime window if some1 enters my room and i don't really feel confortable, but i don't have problems saying that i like to watch it and i don't really hide it.

The times i get more embarassed about watching Anime, is when they do something that i feel embarassed about them doing it, something that i wouldn't have the guts to do so or i don't find right, but that happens to me all the time with other TV shows, movies, etc lol

Yes. It's super awkward when there's a fanservice scene or swimming scene, or kissing scene. That's why I try to play it safe and only watch normal shows when I know people can glance over at me.
