I usually play a different episode in four separate media player windows at the same time. Efficiency in action. Spraypaint fumes turn it into one mega-episode.

I hate to do that, I like to fully enter the anime ambience I'm watching but when I can't find any good one I'll just watch aroud 10 airing anime week by week until I find something better to marathon.

Agreed, although i am not one to talk as I have 22 watching including the aired. So if I were to answer you I would say you shouldn't start new anime when you are watching one. If you feel a little tired of a particular anime the at least try to stick with it till its done, then start something new. It feels much better.

I've found myself hitting a limit around 23-24 shows, beyond which things start to become hazy, or I just don't get the time to keep watching them.

On the other hand I need to have more than 10 or so going at any one time, and if I have less than about 15 I'll spend a lot of time searching around for more things to watch.

I'm the same. Currently watching 22 anime.

I watch anime based on my mood so I ensure that I always have a variety of different genres in my 'Watching' list to pick from. I try to limit my Watching list to 20. If it goes over that then I usually will move some to 'on-hold'.

Currently, my Watching list consists of:
-a few comedies/parodies (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei)
-one or two dark/thrillers (Psycho-Pass)
-a couple of romance/harem (Amagami SS)
-a couple of shounen adventure (FMA)
-one or two seinen/action (Jormungand)
-some mecha/sci-fi (Turn A Gundam)
-one long running anime (Gintama)
-up to 10 currently airing anime (Sakurasou)

It's not too much that I can't keep track and when I watch an episode, I can adapt to the atmosphere and general feel very quickly.
I therefore do not feel that this way of watching anime negatively affects my viewing experience by much.
Afterall, if an anime is good enough to keep me hooked without me feeling the need to switch to other genres then chances are, i'll be marathoning it anyway (in which case it won't be on my list for long).

Roughly 6, give or take 2-3, each season.

Every once in a while I dig around in past seasons to find something I might of missed or would be worth the batch.

Most of them are the airing ones which is around 5-6? Since I usually finish most of the completed ones in one sitting.

I have to admit, when I saw the title, I imagined some guy sitting in front of like 6 monitors watching 6 different shows simultaneously.

I just can't see myself watching more than 5 series at a time, with only one series from the completed list and the rest being airing shows. I'll either be marathoning or putting on hold for a really long time basically dropping a completed series.

This is something I will never understand.

In regards to the op, as far as I am concerned its better to focus on one anime at a time, or at most two.

How so? With the ones that are currently airing and the hentai which releases very slowly, plus the completed ones which I take my time with, it easily adds up to about 70.

I watch several ongoing shows (usually about half of the season's lineup) and only one completed show. That way I will watch the completed show while I wait for the next episodes of the ongoing shows.

I try not to watch more the 7-8 at a time, including currently-airing and finished series. I like watch about 3-4 currently airing and keep around another 3-4 finished so that I have other things to watch when I'm all caught up. Sometimes I lose interest in the series so I switch to another one, but I don't take it off my watching list because I will go back probably the next couple days to try and finish it no matter how painful.... But currently i'm behind on everything so i'm trying not to add anymore to my current list.

I watch current airing anime that interest me, and then at least two completed anime at a time (one to watch by myself, and one to watch with my little brothers). Sometimes I watch more completed anime than that (one on my laptop, and then before I go to sleep I watch an anime on my crunchyroll app on my phone), and sometimes I watch an anime with a friend separately as well.

I watch quite a few at once(10 20) usually 60%- 70% are airing at the time.
As long as you don't mix them up there really isn't a problem with watching a lot at once at least in my opinion.

I'm always watching two (sometimes three).

1. Something I haven't seen.
2. Rewatching (I'm constantly rewatching)

And sometimes, I'm watching something that I'm only watching because of the wife. Like I wouldn't watch Fruits Basket voluntarily, but I watch it to spend time with her. She's not an anime fan as such, so I have to select what we watch together carefully (she loved Clannad and loved Usagi Drop).

I usually just watch one at a time, but right now I'm switching between Another and SAO, mainly because SAO is so dopey I can't handle much of it at once and Another would be too disturbing all in one shot (I don't like gore). They balance each other well, I guess?

Since joining my watching list has slowly inflated from technically dropping things but keeping them in place due to reluctance. I recently added all my dropped anime into my watching and decided I'd slowly watch them all over time so I could watch one or two series again.

This added up to around 70 series... I'm now in the thirties but have a long way to go. It's something like a goal lol, since inadvertently stacking up all these series has made anime 'somewhat' less enjoyable.

Generally as you watch more and more anime you find those series you just want to drop, as you're trying more new series and branching out further, leading to clutter. I think it's inevitable as you watch anime over the years.
