Ventus_S said: This again? What do you expect out of top 10 lists? I bet if ever a list comes out that coincides exactly with yours you'd thank the lords (while everyone says it's shit). It's all about comparing it to what you like in the end, isn't it?It shows yet again Japan this generation has objectively shit taste, who only cares about lolis, idols, yaoi, and memes. Indeed 2017 is a weak year with new IP only Made in Abyss and Houseki no Kuni worth mentioning, but doesn't disprove Japan this gen has shit taste. (Ancient Magus Bride is ok, not quite up there. Three Gatsu no Lion may be very good but it doesn't seem like a show to attract the norms ) Other than that, I'm actually not quite sure what makes people watch Love Live Sunshine. I loved the original love live, but I can't quite get invested in the new cast at all. Touken Ranbu I actually attempted to watch the Ufotable one, absolutely horrid. I heard from my friend it's kinda like the historical action version of Free!, basically fangirl bait masquerading within a genre guys might like, so it was never really for me. Ventus_S said: Meh, "the west" is synonymous with the international community when western people say it. They mean the same thing.Actually my opinion is from the the East too, and I whole-heartily agree this list is trash. Face it, you being in Asia doesn't make you any more influential on the anime market than anywhere else outside Japan. I'm from Singapore, I know. |

| Shit taste? Please, Japanese people have excellent taste, i mean, they are able to recognize the greatness that is Touken Ranbu! :D On a more serious note, really glad it's doing so well, didn't know Katsugeki was more popular than Hanamaru because it seems to be the opposite in the west. |

Once you are confident enough to share your list with the rest of us tasteless stooges, I'll try to take you a bit more seriously Until then, enjoy your life. |

Love Live 1. Kemono Friends This is the 2017 most talked/ most popular shows in Japan. It shows yet again Japan this generation has objectively shit taste, who only cares about lolis, idols, yaoi, and memes. Indeed 2017 is a weak year with new IP only Made in Abyss and Houseki no Kuni worth mentioning, but doesn't disprove Japan this gen has shit taste. (Ancient Magus Bride is ok, not quite up there. Three Gatsu no Lion may be very good but it doesn't seem like a show to attract the norms ) No wonder Miyasaki hates anime so much. 3-gatsu and MahouYome are bestseller manga in Japan. I usually go with anikore and bangumi because those are more reliable than twitter hashtags. Popularity doesn't necessarily mean they are good shows. Popularity should never be taken seriously. Although, ironically, popularity often dictates sales and awards. Which is the same everywhere in the world and not just in Japan when it comes to entertainment industries be it movies, tv series, games, music, you name it. So, I don't single out Japan having bad taste in anime. Anyways, in case you are interested, according to anikore the top 5 anime of the year 2017 were: 5. Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2 4. Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata ♭ 3. Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon 2. Tsuki ga Kirei 1. Made in Abyss And according to bangumi the top 5 were: 5. Houseki no Kuni 4. 3-gatsu no Lion 3. Owarimonogatari 2 2. Made in Abyss 1. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen From all the anime mentioned, other than Owarimonogatari 2, I have seen the other anime and I personally thought Shouwa Raguko 2 and Made in Abyss were the standout anime of the year alongside 3-gatsu and Houseki no Kuni. Konasuba 2 wasn't as good as the prequel season, it was still funny. Maid Dragon was also fun, but had an inherent meaning of deep bonds. Tsuki ga Kirei was a beautiful and simple romance story. Saekano ♭ had some emotional episodes as well. So, I find these two lists more reliable and found so in the past few years as well with a small hiccups here and there but usually more aligned to my expectations. |

Iggin said: Arargoth said: Now admittedly I have my guilty pleasures here and there, but Japan having shit taste is nothing new. It pains me every year to see garbage shows getting second, and sometimes third seasons when objectively better series get the shaft. It's moe shit, and fan service all the way down. Don't worry kid, you'll grow out of the edgy "if there's no action it sucks" phase eventually. Gotta say kinda funny when someone much younger than you is calling you kid... So kid, there definitely is some great action focused anime, ones I would recommend to anyone. On the other hand there's definitely ones with no action at all that manage to have some of the best story telling and character development that I've seen. It's not about that, it's not hard to see that a good portion of popular anime (especially ones constantly selling the best in Japan) pander to tropes and anime stereotypes with almost nothing of value added. Quite frankly a good portion also over sexualize girls clearly depicted under the age of 18, but I guess that's a whole other topic entirely. As I get older I only realize how bad it is, and the real gems that tend to shine through it. |

Tbh I see u around in forums a lot so I learned about Saki from you. Was hoping he would show up. Hopefully sideM gets another season. Heh heh, yea. I heard the reason why him and his group wasn't part of the main cast was due to the anime adaption picking the first 6 "ST@RTING LINE" groups (Saki's group is at 10 so rip) but if anything if SideM gets a season 2 like the other Idolm@ster series I'm really hoping the whole thing with the president still scouting for more idols will bring him and the other SideM idols into the series. I'm looking forward to this week's ep tho, SideM is honestly a really nice adaption, I hope Idolm@ster Million Live! has good pacing like it once it has its Anime adaption. |

-Spades- said: Taste is subjective; all it proves is that Japan's culture has a different opinion of what it considers to be good anime They are not even popular in Japan, it means they have a high number of tweets. If you want to know which anime is mostly popular among general Japanese fan community or general anime otaku-dom in Japan, go to 2ch anime board or d-anime or Anikore those places where general anime fans gather not twitter nor animate ranking. If you want to know mainstream popularity more than just anime fan community, go with TV or DVR ratings. |

| YES!! Girls und Panzer and Kemono Friends in top 5!!! Thank you for that Japan. But you guys still have shit taste. If you people are still hesitating to watch Kemono Friends, I personally recommend it. It's got a really good story. And about the animation, sometimes you gotta look past it and enjoy everything else. |

Euphonium 2 (in fact, it was the only anime that was in top 5 of all the sites I checked including anikore, bangumi, nico etc.) yet it was neither mentioned on the twitter polls nor nominated for any category for anime of the year awards although it had everything going for it. Art and animation, sound and background music, storyboard and directing, voice acting, attention to details, character development and a satisfactory conclusion. |

MortalMelancholy said: Actually, the list looks like this: https://www.anikore.jp/chronicle/2017/oc:reviewCount/ You shared the wrong link. I have been following these sites for a few years now. What they publish in their home page under TV anime category at the end of January is based on a complicated point system unlike MAL where points are earned through multiple factors such as number of members seen the anime, number of members completed the anime, seniority of the members, number of members voted, the average of those votes, number of review counts, average review points with scores based on story and plot, art and animation, cast and voice acting, bgm and ost, and finally characters and NOT by how many members reviewed a particular show which you have shared. The link you shared would interpret something like this: Anime A has 100 reviews of an average score of 65/100. Anime B has 80 reviews of an average score of 70/100. Since Anime A has 20 reviews more, it will be ranked higher than Anime B. It doesn't even make any sense. The link you should be looking at is this which they will use under TV anime category for 2017 based on the points system. umashikaneko said: I only disagreed with you when you said Hajime no ippo or NANA were not popular in Japan in the past. I cannot seem to recall. I am sure I meant the anime because the manga were actually quite popular, at least Ippo still is. I knew these would come handy in the future so I screen capped last couple of years' top 5 TV anime listed in bangumi. None of these anime ever appear in stuff like twitter polls. It could be taste or something but I personally think the anime they have in their lists are better than those that appear in the twitter polls and stuff like that where they count hashtags or retweets and not the actual number of twitter accounts that tweet. But I want to emphasize on the fact that the anime that win these twitter polls are actually more successful when it comes to sales and awards and such. A doorknob like Donald Trump became the president of the USA through twitter so you can never disregard the power of tweets. |

It makes sense that a guy who just bought Vol.93 previously bought Vol.92 lot factor... it based on oricon repord sales which feedback from book store rather than report from publisher it self (the works models in japan is very unique)... so they don't counting online sell, online version, or such as (depend they report their sales so oricon can acumulated it or not)... so there might had to do where they buy and don't actually report how many copies actually sales, but it still better than nothing... other reason is weekly manga rangking... for example, your rank showed up in 3 consecutive ranks because more fleshing week (like you relase 3 days before end counting) will give you more week also more long report about amount, than said released in early week then only get 2 weeks before fall below cut-off (too low to included in rank)... another reason might bonus volume... there is special bonus in that volume make people think it's worth to buy it tankubon (volume book) than online reading or magazine release only.... |
