I watch anime with my mom all the time.

It's not really a big deal that someone older is watching anime. It's like saying anime is only for young people or something, but it's for everyone.

I'm 40 never watched it as a child, but I binge watch it now. Just started about 6 months ago and I'm watching everything I can find.I crunchyroll, Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu my favs. I'm the mother of 7 and very busy but I enjoy my late nights with a quiet house and currently working through Inuyasha, started with maid Sama and host club. I keep track on my MAL app, but feel very alone in this hobby and interest. None of my friends or spouse enjoy this hobby with me. My 15 year old daughter is the one that got me started, but none of my other kids like it.

Like everything else, I'm sure there's some older people who do watch anime. Just because it targets younger demographics doesn't mean that older people don't like it.

I was just wondering whether people in this age group or even beyond watches anime or if they think it's too childish for their age. Do you have a friend who watches anime in that age group or are you that person?

Not to be rude or anything. Just wondering.

My mom enjoyed a few anime movies. She also enjoyed the live-action death note movies. Other than that, I don't know.

Well , I'm sure plenty of old guys who started watching anime earlier still watches anime. And I occasionally bump into them in this forums too. So , I think they do.

Though I'm pretty sure they won't like the same ecchi harem shows I watch. :D

My Mom and Dad are both in there 50's.

My Mom likes the first series of Pokemon because she watched it with me and my sister when we were younger. She likes Speed Racer and Astro Boy because she watched them as a kid. She never really got into any anime besides those though.

My Dad watched Speed Racer as a kid, he has rented Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell in the past and he did watch a little of Pyscho-Pass with my sister but overall he doesn't watch much anime.

I have a friend who's whole house hold is obsessed with anime and her parents are definitely in there 40's or 50's. I don't really know her family well though.

I don't really know anyone besides my parents (which don't watch much) and my friends parents that are that age that watch any though.

I'm 45 and I watch anime all the time. Even growing up with the horrible English Dubs they put on TV in the early to mid 80s here(i'm in America), I still watch it. My taste range all over the place. About the only anime I won't watch are sports animes or the slice of life that deals with middle school or high school. Everything else is fair game though.

My mom isn't a huge fan of anime, but she likes Astro Boy, Cowboy Bebop, Kimba, Castle in the Sky, Magical Princess Minky Momo and The Adventures of Hutch the Honeybee.

She's more into classic western cartoons like The Pink Panther, The Little Mermaid, Bambi, Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Looney Toons, Scooby Doo (up to the late 70s) or Thundercats.

Yes. I actually know a mecha anime forum where a lot of the posters are in their 30s-40s. But then again, mecha is really a genre more enjoyed by older fans since we don't get too many good mecha shows these days.

My father started with the first french emissions showing japanese animation (Cpt.Harlock, UFO Robot Grendizer, Space Pirate Cobra). Then he watched along me in the early 90s what I liked (I remember recording Dragon Ball/Z the morning when I was a child for him to watch it after work or at the end of the week).
A few years later, I started to order VHS/DVD boxes and he sometimes watched along depending on the content (things like Slayers were OK while he dropped Evangelion when it wasn't about giant robots anymorz :D ). After that came my years of highschool where my friends provided me an orgiac quantity of fansubs along my own new DVDs. some of those, he watched in the few years that came after (action/fantastic/sci-fi pieces, mostly the entertaining ones to the detriment of things like Lain).

He tried to follow Hagaren Brotherhood but the hours and quantity of episodes were'nt compatible with work. Same with One Piece, I had introduced it to my little brother who rewatched it later dubbed on TV, it was shown during early evening but in large chunks (10+ eps).

There's also the issue that in general most 40-50 year olds don't really participate in online communities, again some do but it's not as common for them as it is for younger people who grew up with the internet.

It's not like having no Internet activity prevents you to turn on the television.

Not sure if this helps. I came across this site as I was googling am I too old to watch anime, bleach to be specific. lol.

I was watching anime (dubbed in Cantonese) when I was in my late teens 80s in HongKong. This includes Dr. Slump and Dragon ball. Now I am watching anime in my 40s. While I have stopped watching it for a long time, Netflix actually got me back to watching it recently.

I started going through all the anime and ended up on Crunchyroll on my Xbox One as Netflix only showed a few series like Bleach, Fate / Stay Night, Fairy tail, death note, black lagoon ..etc.

The underline enjoyment I have recently rekindled whether the series was made for teenagers or more adult tones, it is the emotion that goes behind it.

Japanese society and culture hide emotion with their polite visage. With anime, it is actually a way for the creators to express their emotions through the characters and relationship. I laughed when on poster mentioned Ojisan...crap, I am an old man now. This must be a kid's site!

To this day, I actually still get the Japanese humor behind anime! #childlish@heart

P.S., funny enough, I work for a Japan company in London (Ricoh) who makes printers for businesses and the building has 5 floors. We have floor 4 and 5 and on the third floor, it is the London (European) HQ of Dentsu, PR company for Bleach and the likes of Ninja Warrior!

Proabably not so many just now. Becuse anime was not really a thing when they were 12-25 years old in the west ;). But all you guys will proabably watch it as you get older so it will be more people when you guys are all 40-50.

For example. How many people in 40-60 is named. Amber, Sebastian, Kevin and so on.
