How could they fuck up the transformation like that? It was awful... No seriously, the transformation scene was such an big part of the original, it just boggles the mind that they thought this was acceptable. I can't even enjoy the show with this ugly cg mess. The majority of the show is 2D yet they used cg for the transformation? What the hell happened?

Nostagia! I actually remember watching the first episode in the 90's. I like that the animation style has been tweaked but is still so similar to the original style. Not a fan of the CGI parts but I'm excited about all this.

The transformation scene was abysmal.
I dunno, I'm just disappointed. I didn't like some other things as well but I'm just gonna leave it at that.
Good thing is that they stayed very faithful to the manga... I hope there will be a second season otherwise this might end up really rushed (because first episode = first chapter in the manga, right?)

ONA refers to "Original Net Animation". It's used to describe anime that is to be released directly onto the internet. In other words, this means that Sailor Moon Crystal was created to be released on the internet first before other mediums like TV/Blu-Ray discs.

Ahaha I'm in childhood again (*^-^*)/
I love how the art is modern but still preserves the old features
The transformation part is boring, music is too plain. The old one was much more exciting.

Loved the episode, it's really exciting to see Sailor Moon back again! It reminds me of childhood so much!
Not a fan of the music (especially the OP and ED, they just feel a bit weird, but maybe I'll get used to them), but the rest was amazing (well, maybe except for the awkward CGI).

I can complain about the CGI....

I can complain about Usagi's voice....

I can complain about the OST not being anywhere near as good as the original....

I can complain about other nit-picky things....

BUT I'M NOT!

SAILOR FUCKING MOON IS BACK!!!!

Wow, this was like going back to the 90s and reliving all those great afternoons watching sailor moon on TV.

I really can't say how thankful I am that they made this remake....I'm not expecting this to be the best anime I see, I'm not even expecting this to be better than the orginal....I really don't care.

I'm just happy Sailor Moon is back!

i like the more oldschool appearance of the characters. it looks good or it doesnt feel out of place or something like that. the transformation sequence otherwise was i would say not bad but somehow incommodious. some little parts were nice (e.g. skirt), other were strange (e.g. arms). i am surprised, that the original seiyuu Mitsuishi Kotono still 2014 has such a childish voice. O_o what i dont like ist the metal guitar played along some parts in the opening and the transformation scene … opening would be more awesome without the metal guitar. opening and ending are really great, especially the ending has some charms. but the original ones were better, no doubt about that. ^^

Anyone else feel disappointed by Usagi's voice? I know its the same VA but i felt it wasn't up to par as the old series. Seemed very forced and not as natural... hope she gets better through the episodes... maybe she is out of practice.

Only thing I didn't really like but it was a pretty solid episode otherwise... lots of nostalgia.

Maybe im remembering this wrong, did one of the girls really say there was jewelry in the shop on sale for a billion yen?
Isnt that somewhere around ten million dollars?
That seems excessive. Jewelry usually isnt THAT expensive. Shops dont just normally sell anything that expensive and they certainly dont put it in the display window.

Am i getting really hung up over a very small detail/throwaway line that i most likely remember wrong? Possibly.

*Starts watching with a huge smile yay for childhood times*
*Is happy because is watching a more faithful adaptation to the manga.*
*Notices in the opening is Queen Serenity...with blonde hair (NO, NO!)*
*ignores everyone's pink glossy lips*
*yay for Mamoru's dorkness*
*smile starts fading with Usagi's forced pitched voice*
*smile is gone when watched SM AWFUL transformation*
*Notices Soundtrack was terrible from the beggining to the end*
*Childhood is crushed.*

And these were my reactions during the episode. I guess no matter how" elegant" and "modern" this animation is...no matter how much I love SM...the old classic first episode was still much better. Still Ill keep watching but for my sanity's sake ill just skip her transformation from now on. Im still happy to see SM anyway...*conflicting feelings*

Its not uncommon for bigger jewelry stores to get "exclusive items" that circle through multiple stores in multiple countries till they are bought. Stuff at that cost most likely is there more for a display and then will go to another store, with its author both gaining fame and eventually selling it to someone rich somewhere in the world.

I really love this episode!

Even though I've never watched this before as a kid, the show really has this nostalgic effect that my childhood shows had.

Usagi-chan is so cute! & Tuxedo Mask is so dashing while flying with his cape. I really miss these straight-to-the-point shows..

And I didn't expect to see one of the Four Kings(? I think that's what they're called) already in the first ep.

Guess you are kidding. While the art turns out surprisingly pretty, the animation is missing in most part, like a slideshow. And this transformation is... But I actually really like the new voices so far, guess I am minority here. :)

I did watch the original series and as a long time SM fan I am a bit underwhelmed. I mean, it wasn't THAT bad but it wasn't the mind blowing comeback I was expecting either...
The animation should be way better after all the build up and marketing they did on the new release.
I did like the op and ed. I also liked the way the characters were introduced and the general pacing of the episode...I guess they had to step up the speed of the story this time around so I will not complain about that.

In the end I will watch the hell out of this and be happy about it just because I love Sailor Moon, but I wish they took more care with the animation *sigh*...oh, well...

Well it was like that in the Manga, explained a bit more gruesome. Why the Youma (Demon) did so is only speculation. The most plausible would be to drain her completely out of life energy, after finishing the job.

It definitely could have been better. There was a lot of off anatomy in still shots which surprised me as I expected a Sailor Moon remake of all things to have a lot of budget and care put into it.

Also the new style seems off to me. I loved all of Usagi's different expressions in the original, but here she keeps a generic :^o the whole time. Hopefully with time the quality will improve.
