Gotta say, out of everything we've seen in this show so far, nothing has grossed me out more than that thing's butt being ripped open and a bloody clump of hair coming out... Reminded me of a certain something Howie Mandel posted last week ಠ_ಠ

Jokes aside, I haven't felt this enthralled by the world of MiA since the last ep of season 1. The movie and ep 1 were great, but they were so gritty, I started wondering if everything was going to be gray and depressing/claustrophobic from now on, so I'm glad that's not the case. The CG wasn't bad, and the visuals seem on par with season 1 so far.
That last line gave me the chills... Can't wait for the story to kick into gear.

Good OP and ED. I think I may like the OP more than the first one. The butt ripping scene was beyond gross, thank god the didn't delve too much into it.
Majikaja's voice sounds so pleasant, I imagined him soundind like that.

Riko and Nanachi’s hair being sewn shut inside the butt of those creatures is the last thing I expected to see in today’s episode. But when I thought it wouldn’t get anymore weirder, they really ended it with the appearance of a creepy puppet creature and a bunch of other Hollows. Shits crazy.

The 6th layer is a creepy place for sure. Huge monsters, smol monsters and creepy monsters. The background and visuals were on another level as always, can't complain about this aspect of the show. Well, they got hairly assaulted when they were sleeping. Time to look for who did it and they managed to find the place but there's a secret that they don't know. Humans can't keep their original form and I feel like the monsters there are the first group who arrived at the 6th layer.

Holy gawd... can anyone else not believe that we are actually seeing Iruburu animated/come to life...? Kojima & his team seriously outdid themselves with this. I just can't believe that it's actually a palpable reality. A big part of me thought that we'd never get an animated continuation of the series. It feels very surreal.

The village & it's entire arc/lore has got to be one of the most f**ked things in this history of fiction.... It's like if Baum, CS Lewis, Leiji Matsumoto, & Hayao Miyazaki went on a prolonged crack & ketamine bender with Clive Barker & Yumeno Kyūsaku....

the ironic thing, is that the 6th layer.the village did *not* come across this way in the manga. Everyone had the same concerns as you did, that this arc would be bleak & caked in grit/grimness. I am personally elated to see that that is not the case, and that was clearly not what Aikihito was going for with this arc in the manga. One of the many reasons why I prefer the MiA anime to the source material.

I am once again here to shill for Kevin Penkin. OP & ED are awesome, especially the ED love me some MYTH&ROID. And the OST when they were at the village entrance...so good.

Seeing all the villagers in color was pretty nice. Can't say I expected that color scheme for Majika but no complaints.

It seems that the mechanical guy is at least aware of Prushka. But I can't remember exactly who is she, I thought she was Meinya (who I don't remember who is she either)

Prushka was Bondrewds daughter, if you remember the third movie, and Meinya was her pet.

'relevant to the story', technically it's season 1.5. Season 2 is a sequel to the film, not to season 1. The film is essentially eps 14-19 of Season 1, only with far superior production values

It was mysterious for all the things that happened to them while they were sleeping but seems like it's because of these weird creatures from the village (I love the ambiance!) though it's not reassuring at all especially after that last sentence, they will have to change their bodies to escape the village??? :o

id give it 4.9/5 . the animals the scenery were on point . the plot twist and suspense are killing me + the music is best .
the highlights of the episode are :
1) rikos letter scene
2) bridge scene
3) the theif

(spoiler) it'd have been flawless execpt for these 3 moments
1) the team escape from geo thermal vents didn't felt smooth at a moment they were running from volcanos next moment they are next to a water fall.
2) rikos panic for her White whistle wasn't properly shown (it was way too fast + no expression).
3) Majika's introduction the team should have shown a bit more uncomfort while meeting majika + majika coming out of the village and talking smooth & straightforward to the team is just a bit too rushed .

See ? This is the part, this is what made this manga shine the most, just adventuring and exploring the abyss, discovering new life the deeper you go, dealing with the environment and or trying to survive in it ... And not getting stuck in some back ass village for half an eternity.

Also no pooping this week ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The manga was about to be axed before mitty/bondoldo/nanachi arc. In other words, what makes manga shine and sell, is suffering.

For all that they were chasing a stalker and thief, this was a relatively laid-back and low stakes episode. So of course they just had to throw in that ominous ending line...

Also, I wonder if Reg will be able to reattach his other hand at some point. Got to be awkward carrying it around, even if he can still use its grappling function it has to be weaker than before. Hopefully there are some tools in this village.

The nonchalant/inconsistent attitudes & reactions of the kids in the face mindblowing entities, is what really irks me about this series & this franchise in general.

The non-reaction to the colossal seahorse-dragon hybrid, and as you alluded to, the mild reaction to finding a city of demons inside of a gargantuan flesh tree, the entrance of which is adorned with human body parts, etc. Their reactions are somewhat more severe in the manga, but still not to where they should be, so that the audience can really feel the dread & awe of what they (we) are witnessing

I actually like that element to it. The world they live in is so fucked that things that should horrifically scar them barely register as shocking. Nanachi specifically has participated in countless children being ripped apart, so it's kinda hard to imagine her being phased by anything.

Made in Abyss really takes fantasy to the next level. We're not going to fight a demon lord, and nothing is glorified. Really great episode, especially with the little voice over at the end.

this is true, and I can see that aspect to it (the world of Orth/the Abyss is a fantastical realm, after all), but the scope of that dragon, for example.... i dunno, i just feel like there should've been more shock & awe... and not just, "oh...hmm, better avoid that dragon that is as big as the Sears Tower.....). It reduces the impact upon the audience of witnessing such a creature for the first time

Not only the characters, but the Ganja Corps arc in general is infinitely more interesting & compelling than anything involving the central trio. Belafu alone possesses more fascinating depth than Riko & Nanachi combined. If anything, it was quite disappointing that they couldn't continue the parallel narratives, but I understand why they will have to take a little break from the Ganja arc.
