Yea I still have absolutely no idea what’s going on, but this show is so fresh and free spirited I love it. It reminds me a lot of FLCL from back in the toonami days where you’d just stay up to watch some crazy shit happen.

I don't see what was the point of mixing past and present when what happened was probably just couple days apart and connection was as straightforward and obvious as possible. I'm afraid visuals and that kind of directing are just there to cover up lack of substance. It reminded me of Guilty Crown and that's not a good sign. Hopefully it won't be as disappointing.

My expectation shattered, cause there it is, the thing I'm annoyed with, bad CGI 😑 esp those on its opening. It's one of the worst I've ever seen, even it's worse than first eps showed in Arifureta S2, that even looks quite bad already. And the plot seems scattered out of place, for example after Bisco kidnapped Milo and sent the building, himself, and Milo flying, and then Milo screamed, he suddenly having a camp with Jabi (where is Milo, he disappeared lol). If the same quality will be showed for the rest of episodes, this show would go downhill, even though the LN is award-winning. But due to its decent worldbuilding, still give this a chance

Great second episode. The OP is a banger with killer visuals. The OST is also a banger and the animation is very good even the CG was good.

This anime is definitely a failure. The story is difficult to understand due to the pointless transposition of the timeline. This director will never make a masterpiece anime.

another one here that hates Nonlinear Narrative heh

its fine i like this kind of none standard storytelling

Then, the director Itagaki should write his own Nonlinear Narrative novel and make the anime of it for himself. Isn't that right? Why does he need to change a novel written by someone else?

The characters continue to be archetypal, but atleast the action continues to deliver and that OP absolutely kicks ass.

Edit: Some people complaining about the non-linear narrative??? Nothing in this episode is remotely confusing. Christ can't imagine what you guys think of Lain or the original Boogiepop anime in comparison.

If the original novel was a non-linear narrative, I wouldn't complain.

The energy was decent, I'm quite intrigued about how they will fill the next episodes, the elements are aesthetically random but fit decently into the vision of the anime, and the goals of the characters makes sense in order to elaborate something, hope that it isnt as all over the place as some other anime that proposes this kind of settings.
The back and forth narration wasnt as much as a problem for me, it worked to build up the motivation and outline the personality of Bisco while building forward the interactions with Milo and the environment, but maybe the interaction between the forces of Kurokawa and the watchers could have been done better, I suppose that they will elaborate it afterwards anyways

I don't understand why people get so confused with the timeline transitioning, seems like if we don't get a completely linear show we can't enjoy it. Just wait to see how things roll out and get explained, be patient.

For me it's a 9/10. I absolutely love the vibe of this anime and can't wait for the next episode.

I wonder how Bisco got the arrow through that helicopter. The old man said that it was impossible. Is it either skill, or does it have a weak point? Hope it explains it later.
I also wonder how those arrows create mushrooms.
I'm loving this so far. I honestly don't think I can wait another week for the next episode.

Kinda concerned about the immediately noticeable animation quality drop. Lots of not so good looking corner cutting techniques being used like rotating static images, camera shake and obscuration on still images, not very well rigged CG, obscured closeups, low quality models using minimal motion at a distance, snap-cuts etc. Character/scenario writing and art especially backgrounds still feels great though as well as a couple cool and well done animation cuts.

I like this show quite a bit but I really hope this quality drop isn't a steady slope for the series and future episodes see less use of these time saving animation techniques or at least round out the animation where they can.

Yeah, I'm not at all bothered by the non-linear storytelling, not least because in this case the continuity really isn't at all hard to follow. I also think these early stages of the narrative are perhaps more entertaining like this than if they were presented linearly and that this approach makes more sense in establishing all our different characters simultaneously.

Beyond that, I'm definitely entertained by everything going on, but I hope we don't have to wait too long to understand Bisco's motivations, as at this point it's not really clear why we should be rooting for him at all.

After seeing this episode, I kept thinking: That plane was actually a living organism??? That head of a slug is one thing but when Bisco actually shot it down, it was bleeding every where... It's so weirddd, but I like it.

Pink haired girl is the reason for Jabi, Bisco's mentor, getting injured and now Milo has to patch him up.

Loved the Pawoo action and I can't wait to see her duke it out with Bisco next episode. Also looking forward to the reveal to Bisco that Pawoo is Milo's sister.

About the way they are telling the story, i don't think it is that confusing. They will probably keep with this in this first arc is over and everything connects.

And the OP 10/10.

I mean, sure, they got all these people that makes you think its gonna be fucking amazing but it's also a studio who, in the past, only helped other studios before. this is their first anime series for Oz studio and it's doing a pretty solid job so far as a first anime. Also its the director's directorial debut.

This is a big LN in Japan and the adaptation was very anticipated, OZ was obviously highly regarded if they were offered the project. So lets not act like they're some unknown studio.

this is NOT a big LN in Japan, it's quite niche and the sales are nothing incredible.

It was one of the biggest selling Bunkobon LN in 2019, and largely regarded as one of the better LN's out there. So yes, it's pretty popular and I'd expect the Anime to further increase its popularity.

the non-linear narrative here isn't confusing but it is unnecessary and awkward. the scene with the braids girl talking about how she failed to kill bisco kills any tension that the following scene of it actually happening would have had. it gives this anime an element of discontinuity that just comes off as clumsiness in an anime with such a straightforward plot.

And just like the first episode, lots of crazy stuff happened, rabbit guys with machine guns, hippo’s with mounted cannons, giant crab, snail plain, so much weird but awesome stuff to love in this show lol. As for the plot, don’t entirely understand what’s happening but I got the basic gist of the current situation, and at the end of the episode we got to see Pawoo being badass and about to fight Bisco, definitely excited for that, and I loved the emotion when she found out about her brother.

I’m also really liking the action sequences in this, the mix of realistic weapons and creative ones like the Escargot plane, and you can’t forget the bow and arrow that shoots mushrooms, that makes me really love it and makes it especially memorable.

And nice OP visuals this episode and the ED is damn good too.

So far

Opening animation is pretty bad that I couldn't even focus on the music

There are 2 questions I had after the scene were he said he threatened three guys and they all suggested him

Why would he need 3 people? Like were they in a group?

And why would he ask Milo's name later on while he should've already known when asking those people? Like did they just marked on the map or pointed in a direction?

I know these are very small problems but I find them quite strange

Bullets apparently don't matter at all so I hope I see a lot less of guns, there were times i just felt like I'm watching a couple stormtroopers because of how much they miss and in the beginning of the episode we see the guy shooting at bisco's head and it was close enough to rip the bandage on his face but not harming him at all. we can say okay maybe it's the same reason with how even though the old man was shot a lot he wasn't dead and they're strong beyond human

Milo's sister is... too big? I mean it wasn't really a problem but in some shots it was really strange

Other than that it was pretty good

There was pretty good background music

Action scenes were good

I liked the old man's talk with bisco

I liked the end of the episode fight scene that made me want to see the next episode

And generally characters and the environment looks good

Quite interesting anime although the plot is not yet raised.
The world seems to be that it will have many striking and eccentric elements, and with that it will already have me trapped here. The OST conveys a lot of emotion so I already imagine that the story will be full of many moments of action, so the anime will at least serve to entertain you.
The bad thing is that the individual psychological aspect is still unexplored, only the panda doctor stands out for now.

The aesthetics of the OP is very striking, it seems that I will spend some time to see who was in charge of producing it, because surely many like me, it reminded them of other animes.

This actually has a proper story. lol.

Jabi seems like he'll die. Bisco can do everything Jabi can, and the one thing Jabi can do that he can't—can be done by Milo. So, Bisco and Milo are supposed to replace him. But, I can't quite figure out Jabi's role, and dying without completing their role can make the death feel dissatisfying. So, I guess he's not going to die just yet? He may have a few things left to do before it.

How many arrows does Bisco have? Who makes them? How are they made? How long does it take? I hope they answer it!!!

Oh, no! I ship Bisco and Milo. At first, I was like "Oh, cute friendship." Then, in the underground scene, it seemed like the beginning of a crush . . . And I shipped it! lol. (It's already a better start for a ship than "Sasaki to Miyano".)

The art is fun. Recently, there haven't been a lot of anime where I have enjoyed looking at the art.

Bisco is teaming up with Milo, while fighting Milo's older sister. Seems like a nice seed for drama. I am excited to see what they'll do with this. (The preview of next episode makes it look like there won't be much drama, but I hope there is. Humans are made of drama!!)

This episode confirms what I was thinking about the pacing. I wasn't 100% sure due to the choice of doing the adaptation "baccano style" by mixing up the timeline a lot in the first few episodes (starting with next episode there should be almost no back and forth remaining I think I think), but now I 'm sure : We've only reached 65 pages of content after 2 episodes out of 350, so the anime adaptation is definitely going for a "12 episode for 1 volume adapted" choice. That's the same adaptation pace as Rokka no Yuusha, IE one of the slowest/most faithful pace ever done when adapting a novel in anime.
