TakunDes said: First 12 ep of SAO was really good, rest was shit with the fairy crap. GGO was really shit as well, especially really shit when it turns into fairy stuff again This, however, has a good start, looking forward to it Alicization in a way picks on what was great about those first episodes, drops Asuna, for the first half, adds a great MC to balance with Kirito (Eugeo) and goes much further than the first arc ever gone. It is the pinacle of how great of a fantasy can be, with also innovating concepts like the Fluctlight going on. And we will be getting one year full of Alicigreatness~~ evoniee said: this is just a beginning of a whole new story. kirito is dead and transported to new journey?, im in! He is not dead, and this is not spoilers, he was injected with the Death Gun. Recall GGO? That thing has a sedative to stop his heart, and it really fucks him up. (minor spoilers below) You just dont see that since he is put on the SLG, Underworld VR, so he can survive, this is to save him, if this was not done to him, he would have died from that shot. |

For me as anime only premise of the entire thing leaves impression of anime version of Contact (minus aliens along with gigantic multilayered machine). Also, I could not keep my face straight during the ambush scene, photon swords sounded there like remixed farts... |

Really a good first episode ! But...Those kids....Their are stupid aren't they ? I mean....they took the wrong way but..... -First we can see that one side of the roas is like 2x widder than the other... When walking, the river was at their left and they was on the big road..... Couldn't they think about it a little ? Also the sword and the dragon ! When they was in front on the good side....they literaly walked straight to the dragon.....the sword became an arrow to the exit....since they couldn't move it ! Oh well details.....But Hey ! 'm sure it's going to be a good show ! I mean Kirito is half-dead already ! Could'nt do a better start XD |

Really the first half was gorgeous!! Speaking animation wise it was class. The time Kirito spend inside STL and his future journeys are about to be explored. Thinking hard about the ending, what's gonna happen to our boy next. |

I really didn’t like this episode First it was the overly serious kid kirito in a game which I wasn’t invested in Then there was the photon sword (ngl that made my day) Then there was death gun 3, why? I really didn’t need to see another 1 and how did he track kirito down? |

TFW the only good part of a 40 minute episode is a rough housing scene between kid Kirito and a blonde. The scene with the whole harem gathered in the bar made me laugh my ass off for some reason. Also, MMMMM that cafe exposition scene. Fucking classic SAO. For what is suppose to be the best arc of SAO, they sure are doing their best to push away newcomers, fence sitters, and even haters with this 1 episode. But Im a good fanboy so I'll continue watching this because KiritoxAsuna4lyfe!!!!!1111 |

First half is pretty good, until they show that hilarious GGO part which they use laser sword to fight a bunch of people with guns and deflect bullets with swords lolz.. Crap game is crap game. Production quality is good as expected cuz this show is literally A1's trump card, but first half plot is pretty generic while later half is still lolz.. Let's see how the plot goes then, I don't expect much honestly. |

I thought the ending was pretty dumb, tbh. Even though he became well trained with the sword in the original game, and practiced after leaving SAO, he still fudged this up terribly. A man runs at you, poison in hand and arm in an arc going to stab at you, and you stab his LEG? Why didn't he just whack his arm to the side and beat him up? Why didn't he try to dodge, hit the arm or hand, or anything to stop the poison, but went to stab his leg? Now there is a guy that only has a small hole in his leg, can still walk if realistic, and can now finish him off and his girlfriend, again, if the anime is realistic and someone doesn't faint just from an umbrella poking his leg. |

I'm willing to concede that slice of life without some kind of hook (whether it be a strong and unique artistic style and presentation, comedic value, or interesting characters) is boring to me, as it probably would be to most people. The problem is that the exposition scene in this first episode was exactly that: boring, without interesting characters, and without any interesting visual hook. I'm also willing to concede that this might not be representative of the whole show, but having seen the first two seasons I'm not convinced that these kinds of scenes will not be prevalent. I genuinely hope that this season will be actually good, having thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the first season until the bs at the end of the first arc. I expect that as the show goes on it will get better, but I'm not actually convinced it will get good. |

Keeping it plain simple(?) As a person who somewhat read the light novels up to somewhere like book 12? I've got to say it's pretty promising so far. The first half in Underworld fires in all cylinders for 'show no tell' in terms in hooking you with the mystery of world of Underworld, the new characters like Eugeo and Alice, the world; the storyboard and direction for the first 15-20 minutes was pure solid. The second half from the GGO section onwards was kinda..*sigh* I really have like and dislike relationship with the SAO franchise, but dear lord A1 pictures if you wanna make exposition dumps well please make it interesting besides characters sitting moving their mouths. Although its kinda better than S2's info dump in it's starting episode, still kinda made me want to press forward and just get to the part where gets poisoned. This is gonna be a long ride, I really hope A1's staff can maintain this quality for presumely until summer 2019 and I admit early on the story is kinda muddy but picks up well enough later on. OVerall promising but slightly skeptical |

Pretty damn awesome start if I do say so myself. Really missed this series so it's nice to see the group again along with Alice and Eugeo. Was very confused at the start of why Kirito was a kid until the 2nd half started and also i wonder why Eugeo had that "system error" thing in one of his eyes. Pretty interesting imo. very hyped for the next ep. |

I don't even know where to start, but i am so glad that they did a 40min episode, otherwise it wouldn't be the same. This is honestly one of the best SAO episodes, and this is just the first episode! wow! I'm so curious about everything but it will take a lot of time to find everything xD 50 eps!! That new "game" that Kirito is working on is 10/10, can't wait to know more about what is happening there. Alice is such a cutie omggg! And, can we have another episode about the tree cutting? It was so interesting xD Glad that we had some romance in this episode. Nice to see the team back, but Asuna...oh boy <3 Amazing as always :3 Art is as always 10/10 It's good that it didn't disappoint because i was worried that the change in director would affect the anime but (at least now) i have 0 complaints, only compliments xD What a great job! Can't wait for more! This is going to be awesome. |

So uh, watched the Alicization part till he woke up, skimmed through the episode after te whole GGO part, got to where the Laughing Coffin dude pops up, saw him get poked with the poison. All I could bring myself to say was get fucked. Honestly, skipping through the exposition middle piece, I feel like I didn't miss on much (partly cause I read the LN probably) Eh, might be a solid pass for me. At least te art is pretty. |

Sword Art Isekai? Also, am I the only one that thinks Kirito being all gung-ho about this new device is a bit of a stretch? After everything he has been through, does messing with the "soul" and memories (particularly after the events in Ordinal Scale), sound like something he would willingly jump into? I know he may be a bit passionate about that stuff, but seriously? Just how little does he place on what he has in the real world (aka Asuna) to be messing around in more stuff like this? |

I'm more bothered at how Kirito, during the first half, was 100% certain about things he's never seen. Like the sword that the so called hero tried to steal, it could have just been some random ass sword. Regardless, at least the episode was pretty. |

And Death Gun consisted of two brothers with one being an ex member and the other one not so the guild also wasn't a pivotal plot point there. It's just ridiculous to have almost irelevant villains reappear and then treat it as some kind of big shock reveal. |

Btw, never read the source material, but I can already guess what would happen later. Kirito prob would be put into that Soul device for a very long time to save him from poison or something cuz his body is temporary dead or something. That dude shota friend would fight against Kirito eventually, as this is how those edgy show always try to set up. (His eye color changes too) They'd fight / misunderstood each other, and eventually come into terms and be best buddy again, etc etc. Alice must be a key device to something important, etc etc, and everyone wants her, etc etc. |

Oh boy, I don't want to be another SAO hater, but this makes it hard not to be one. The pacing throughout the episode is just hideous, they gave us 10 minutes (I'm not exaggerating, literally 10 minutes) of 3 characters just sitting in a cafe and talking; with barely any animation - in the first episode no less. This already pissed me off in Ordinal Scale and SAO Season 2, it appears as though Kawahara really doesn't know any other way to deliver exposition. Even the scenes that were fully animated were pretty underwhelming when you compare them to other recent action shows like Shingeki no Kyojin or Boku no Hero Academia. This is the first episode ofa new season for A-1 Pictures' cash cow and all they could do is decent to average animation? If they're not gonna go all out here, when are they ever going to? As for the plot, sigh... let's just hope it gets better, though I doubt it will (I hope they'll actually kill Alice, though, since this episode couldn't even make me give two shits about what happens to her. I felt more empathy for most of the redshirts in Star Trek, ffs). I also still hate the use of pseudoscience as a plot device because people without scientific background might actually remember that shit. I have this picture of Kawahara in my mind, desperately trying to come up with some logical explanation for all the bullshit he dumped on us here. He then clicked 'random article' on Wikipedia and got to 'microtubules'. He clicked again and got 'photon'. Being the mastermind that he is, his brilliant brain managed to put these mismatched puzzle pieces together and came up with the following: "Put photon in microtubule and you get: Soul." Yeah right. That makes sense. Fuck off. If you're gonna make up bullshit, at least don't use scientific terminology, it makes you look like an idiot to everyone who actually understands it. There's nothing wrong with fantasy, but at least be honest about it instead of trying to hide it behind jargon. Overall, does this make me an SAO hater? I guess it does at this point. I tried, but Reki sure did everything he could to antagonize me. PS: Wonder what sort of Deus Ex Machina they're going to pull out of their ass to not have Kirito die to poison in the next episode. Though who knows, Kirito might have been carrying a bulgarian umbrella (google it, you won't regret it), so I'd say he's got this kill in the bag. |

Rath still need Kirito for their work so they kidnap him. put him in machine. this should happen at start of next ep. then Asuna tried to save him, but ! even tho it wont take too long for her to reach kirito, it's a Long time for him in UnderWorld. most of this whole season is in underworld, and first half is mostly Eugne and Kirito Adventure, and it's really nice. and what u said about Kirito and Eugne fighting coz of some silly misunderstanding like generic shit and then fight and get back together happily ever after will not happen. alice is important but not in the way u think. I recommend u not to get any more spoiled and try to enjoy the show as it unfold, It was awesome for me reading novel, if i was spoiled i would be bored to read the novel lol. not only SAO, any novel Japanese or Chinese or anything i read, if i get spoiled, half my motivation drop for reading the rest lol I drop so many novels coz i was spoiled in novel discord channel i frequent... lol |

If you don't have the intent to kill someone go for what keeps them up & running which are the legs. true, Tbh, the guy is also a strong fighter from SAO. they both have fighting experience, it's not like in Season 2, where Kirito is fighting against that idiot rapist who only worked behind his desk for all his life ! So, Kirito absolutely could not hit his hand or head with the tip of umbrella as he could easily dodge and the edge is soft and useless ! He could aim for his chest maybe but Kirito obviously does not want to kill. so the only part he could hit with high chance of it hitting is the Leg, coz tthat's the most sluggish part to dodge in the middle of a Assault from the other guy, he need his leg for the balance. buuuuuuuuuuut ! that's said, I only agree with how Kirito's "non-lethal attack" was correct... but his judgment to attack was not correct. He should have jumped backward and defend himself from the initial rush attack from the enemy, then it was his win, because he got a long weapon with higher Reach but the enemy got a small hand ranged weapon. so as long as he defend the initial rush attack. he would have won. he did not do this probably because of Asuna behind him and his fear of asuna getting hurt. |

EGOIST said: 2nd half was ass imo. I guess I'm not too much of a fan of the supporting cast from Aincrad I read almost all the comments in this topic, it's really interesting tbh. Ignoring the haters who just hate for the sake of hating. and Ignoring the lovers who just love it coz they love it lol the rest of the comments, almost half say, I loved first part and 2nd half was bad ! half say i loved 2nd part and first part was shit ! and some say i liked GGO part but talk in shop was shit. some say i hate GGO shit part i hope its not repeated again. this just show imo, how much ppl's taste are different ! and no matter what a company do, they can't satisfy everybody. I personally don't hate on anything much, I honestly enjoyed seeing Asuna in GGO gear and fighting along kirito in that scene, plus the foreshadowing but i couldn't care less if it was not there. And the 10min explanation in EP1, while not exciting, had to be there for the built up as next EP all change and we needed these info out fast ! unless they did flashbacks later. this is just the beginning after all ! the story and actions are there to come :D |

Say what you will about SAO but the production value always through the roof, and that hasn't changed this season. I was actually kind of blown-away by some of the visuals here. And sound design is on point as per usual. Some SAO story arcs have been great and others have fizzled but I will say I'm more intrigued here than I was when Death Gun started last time in SAOII. There's nothing to dislike here, personally I don't think there ever was, aside from a few character flaws. It certainly didn't deserve anywhere near the hate it got, but to each their own I suppose. In any event, the new "tech" for this series and the inevitable tie-in to Akihiko Kiaba is already being foreshadowed and I'm all in: The way the second series ended has had me curious for years. We're looking at a whole year of this I guess, week to week. I'm sure it'll go through highs and lows like all things but I'm psyched for it and glad its back. |

A very interesting opening episode, throwing us straight into something that didn't really make sense (and I doubt it fully will for many many weeks yet), but was still interesting regardless. The exposition in the second half does at least explain the fundamentals of the technology, but there's still a lot more to it than what we know so far (not least of which being the practical concerns of a gaming system that is so realistic that it barely seems like a game, while also having a distorted notion of time). It was also a pleasant surprise to see everyone in GGO, and to then use that as a lure to tie us back into the GGO arc again; having just rewatched season 2, everything from that arc is still fresh in my mind, making this turn of events unsurprising but still suspenseful (I'm anticipating the same fakeout as when Shinkawa "injected" Kirito before, but who knows?). Very solid start, and I'm very excited for a year of SAO. |

Who the hell is saying he lost consciousness? He went for the leg, incapacitated him, Johnny lost balance and fell. If you don't have the intent to kill someone go for what keeps them up & running which are the legs. Hmm, let me think. Maybe because it was depicted this way in the fucking anime? |
