Fantastic, easily one of the best episodes ever, and certainly my favorite from this series, rollercoaster is the very definition of this episode!

All the latest episodes have been wild, but holy fuck... I think we could say the pacing was a bit fast here, but it delivered the key points with so much mastery, that it absolutely leaves you a wreck, love it!

I don't have a problem with Akito change of heart, I knew it was gonna happen, in the end, she was just a very fucked up individual, brought up in a really fucked way by a witch.

Should she deserve forgiveness, that is up to each interpretation.

ugh sorry guys but I was really disappointed in this episode. Akito is not worthy of redemption and I sure as hell don't feel sorry for her or empathize with her. she literally stabbed kureno and was a manipulative lying psychopath that terrorized everyone for her entire life, and now she's supposed to be redeemed after one episode? I can't even begin to feel sorry for her. I was so excited for this anime and now I just feel so let down from this episode.

I am the same as Tohru and Kureno, so their kindness and ability to forgive isn't that far off from reality. I do think we're a rare kind of person though and I'm sadly not as good in doing the talk no jutsu as Tohru is.

When someone like Akito crosses your path it becomes cristal clear they have issues that need to be fixed; and someone has to do it, so it's not as easy to cut them off as you think it is. Someone like Tohru or Kureno is drawn to such people like metal to a magnet. They can't ignore the misery the other person is feeling. It might be their own demise, but they will do everything in their power to make the other person feel better.

Anyways, this was another rollercoaster and a half. Luckily it's only one episode a week or I'd be emotionally crushed by now. Haven't felt this way by watching anime since Evangelion.

If one is naturally a Tohru, that's admirable. I agree that Akito can be helped and someone reaching out to her would do it, preferably to convince her to go to therapy or something else.... But ultimately, no one owes anyone that type of support if they've seriously hurt people like Akito has. I just don't want people to compare themselves to Tohru and think "wow, im a terrible person for not being able to deal with that."

I'm just tired of the trope "abusive people in your life? you can fix them!!" because often times you can't in real life.

With that being said, it is something I can overlook in Fruits Basket because Tohru and Akito are direct parallels. It makes sense from a narrative standpoint for Tohru to reach out so I'm not going to be too critical.

What a time to be alive T_T I'm gonna go cry again
I'm excited for the next part. I'll cry again and go through even more nostalgia if I can manage past my tears. I don't even know how many times I used to crack open the book (yeah, back in the day before all these manga websites lmao) and read these specific scenes over and over.

while it maybe seem rushed how akito turn to good I think it was well developed.

She's been in pain from many episodes ago loosing all of their bonds with the zodiacs, then she stabbed Kureno causing her to loose her mind and then she came to a moment where someone accepted her and she then understands what she's been doing.

Maybe seemed a bit rushed but I think they've been developing her change of heart way back.

love the episode

I agree, you can't save everyone and nobody expects you to even try. Tohru is a literal saint for reaching out to Akito like that because 95% just won't. It's ok if you think the way you do because at the end of the day people like us often help others to our own detriment. It's like that story that Momiji told in season 1: people abuse our altruism, we often don't take enough care to ourselves and that often leads to us being the ones needing help. It's just something we can't help.

You can kinda see this with Tohru too. She slaves away to make other people happy while neglecting her own problems, which aren't even small to begin with. Kureno is an even better example because what did he get for wanting to help Akito? A dagger in his back! There is a fine line between being admirable and being foolish and both Tohru and Kureno have crossed that line more than once, and being a fool isn't admirable in the least. I do agree it's well written though.

It's all lead to this. Akito seemed to change her tone pretty quick, quicker than I thought. I figured the "battle" between the two would be a bit more grandiose considering all that's happened. It looks like all Akito needed was someone to accept her, flaws and all. I figured Tohru would choose the path of kindness and compassion, rather than a fight between good and evil.

I really did expect Akito to push her off the cliff, but the cliff gave way on its own which did surprise me a bit. I liked how you could still see bits of Tohru's tent at the bottom of the cliff. It was a nice touch. Even some of the shots were exactly angled like they were in season one. Really nice callback.

Ultimately everyone is alright. I didn't think Kurono was going to make it, but he did. A little cliché, but I'm hoping now he can get with Arisa.

And finally we see it. The kiss between Tohru and Kyo. I'm actually really surprised that the couple I wanted actually got together. I'm hoping there's some catharsis between Kyo and Tohru after their argument.

I'm really interested to see where it goes from here. Is there any lasting damage to either Tohru or Kurono? What will Akito do? Will she finally atone for the evils she's committed? How will relationships go going forward now that it seems that we've reached the climax?

Overall, the best episode of the season and much more impactful than the last episode.

You summed up my own feelings perfectly. Narratively, I find the face-off poetic and beautifully done. But, as is often the case with this trope, it plays out far more neatly than what could be expected in real life.

I'm glad they established way earlier in the show about the ground in the area frequently crumbling (back when Tohru lived in a tent) or else that would have felt way too random 😅 But wow, another fantastic episode. The thing that I love about Tohru so much (and part of what makes me love this show in general) is how easily she can forgive someone like Akito because I don't know if I would be able to in any of the other zodiacs positions. Very good episode. Tho they made it rly obvious that she was gonna fall. Almost feels like the last few eps will be epilogue now. Wonder how they will wrap it up.

I liked the episode as a whole but it felt like all the events were leading up to purposely make Tohru fall and everyone reconcile??? idk if its just me.

It didn't have to happen at that particular time. Tohru just got told by her crush that he was disappointed, and suddenly Akito appeared outta nowhere (Why? it was Hiro's bond that broke so why did she come searching for Tohru) then she could miraculously ignore/get over what had just happened and turned all of her attention to Akito's vulnerability?? Thass some next level shit right there.

This episode was EPIC ahhhh. I can't.

- According to the timeline Shigure went out and got really drunk right after his talk with Ren from a couple episodes ago. Was he really with 'writer buddies' or is he finally feeling the stress of the plan?? I guess we'll never know.

- Tohru is an example of what I have coined in my head as "the Narcissa Malfoy model of character development." I came up with this after listening to a Harry Potter podcast where they pointed out that Narcissa Malfoy is such a great character because no matter what situation the story put her in or how far things escalated, her priority never changed, it was always to protect her son. Tohru, as we finally see in this episode, is another character with this unchanging priority, in her case, to help others and be kind to them. In this episode we find out that things can escalate to literally any level and instead of breaking like many people would and putting her own survival or needs first, she will still prioritize kindness and helping the other person despite danger to her life. She was facing a mentally unstable person with a knife who was cutting her up and she was still trying to make friends. I think it's safe to say she is indeed the Traveller from Momiji's story and it wouldn't matter if someone literally cut off her hand, she would still be kind to them and prioritize their feelings even as she was bleeding out. This is why her character is so fantastic and memorable despite being an "idiot". Momiji was right, if you meet someone like this in your life, cherish them, protect them. They deserve to be your priority.

- Poor Kyo and Yuki. I don't know why but Yuki's english VA sounded different in this ep? Either he was sick during recording or he's trying to make Yuki sound older? Anyway I didn't dislike it, just sounded different.

- Shigure being kind to Akito again is so sweet. I hope it will continue now that we know his plan worked.

- All the other Zodiacs looking sad when they found out about Tohru made me want to cry :( She has truly touched all of them. It's sad that Akito sees Tohru as having "taken her place" when the place Tohru really filled was in fact one that was empty for all of them before her arrival.

- Akito goes to the hospital and finally apologizes to Kureno. Such a cathartic moment. I don't think the show is demanding that viewers forgive her if they don't want to, simply inviting those comfortable doing so to consider her perspective.

- Still have a lot of curses to break! I guess we'll see multiple characters' curses breaking per episode, at this point. Should be interesting...

"Idiots are useful." - Souma Momiji

My life lesson for the week. For decades I've surrounded myself with smart people. I need me some idiots.

It takes some kind of stupid to reach for a loony wielding a knife.

Weird first kiss, but okay. I thought she had died and it was goodbye. Why was Yuuki the only one in the hospital, though? Momiji brought Tohru his bunny. He's really grown. He had a messenger bag instead of his bunny. I guess since his curse broke he's de-bunnyfying himself.

Question: If Haru's curse breaks, will his hair turn into 1 color?

Too many happened in one episode, what's wrong with loving your mother and special someone? I don't think Tohru should be conflicted with that because it's not the same, the level of your love with your parents will not be the same with other person (special someone)

In my opinion, season two and season three episode nine are the best in the entire show. Season two episode nine is easily one of the best episodes. The amount of emotion involved in Kyo's confession to himself is heartbreaking. He admits it to himself that he loves her, but he doesn't tell anyone because he thinks he will be a burden in her life. He still thinks that he will be locked away and he doesn't want Tohru to suffer. He just wants to stay with her for the time he has left, so he can keep the illusion of one day being with her alive, just for a little while longer. In season three episode nine, Tohru doesn't confess, but they truly understand how they feel. Kyo knows what he did was wrong but, he is still trying to protect her from himself. When he hears that Tohru fell, he didn't even blink, he ran as fast as he could. The horror in his eyes when he saw her and thought that she might be dead, was devastating. One of the saddest things was him saying that " it's wrong, it's not what I wanted". He wanted to be happy with her, to live a life with her, or he at least wanted her to live a happy life without him. The speech Tohru gives is arguably the best in the show. She is finally completely opening up about her feelings for Kyo. She loves him, and she thinks that she hurt him, but she doesn't care, she wants to be with him. She doesn't even know at this point if she is going to live, and then we see her and Kyo want the same thing for each other. They want to be with each other, but if they can't, they still want each other to be happy and to move on without them. Now, when Tohru wakes up and tells Kyo that "it's okay, I promise", it is somewhat about her injury. What it's really about is how now that they know how they feel about each other, they don't have to hide it anymore, it will be okay because now they can be together. Kyo is comforted by those words and tells her he understands, and then THE KISS. That alone makes it one of the best episodes.

I'm almost speechless... That was just... such a rollercoaster.

In the end, Tohru's kindness really did reach Akito... Really, bless Tohru. Love her so much! Her kindness is just amazing. It was so weird seeing Akito so shy and embarrassed to meet Tohru, and then she just went over to Tohru, as Tohru held her arm towards her. Akito did a lot of bad things, and they can't be that easily forgiven or overlooked, but in the end she was also a victim. The victim of not only her horrible mother, but also the system, that is the system of the Soma family.

I hope she won't continue to suffer and realise that even without the "eternal" bonds of the zodiac, she won't be alone. Even if no one else is there (and they are), Tohru's there. She's always been treated like she's above them, not part of them, but Tohru doesn't see her that way.

Tohru and Kyo finally kissed! Damn. That was so satisfying. I was afraid that Tohru was going to be in a coma or unconscious for several days, but glad that she seems to be recovering well. I love Tohru and Kyo so much.

That was also a great talk by Momiji. He can show kindness even to Akito, who's hurt him and the people he love so much. I bet Akito is slowly realising that with kindness, the zodiacs might actually want to be with her more than they did, even if there were no bonds.

So, now that the main "villain" is gone (except maybe Akito's horrible mother), I guess all that's left is Tohru x Kyo. Feelings for each other confirmed, but it's still unofficial. I assume the next 4 episodes will be a "prologue" of sorts for everybody. I'm excited to see that, but still sad that this is only 13 episodes... I wish it was a two-cour like the previous two seasons. I wonder whether this shortening of the final season means some materials from the manga were skipped.

Anyway, amazing episode. Just amazing.

Tohru and Akito two sides of the same coin. The way things were resolved fit the themes of the series and it has been built up for a whole while, but it wasn't entirely convincing. I dunno, I have higher standards for a series that tries to be grounded.

It was nonetheless a good episode, good, not amazing.

What I liked were merciless Cliff-kun. Just when Akito found a friend that was offering a hand.

The kiss and the hospital scene at the end.

OMG my heart can't take this rollercoaster of emotions. Only Tohru has the power to make me feel sympathy for the demon that is Akito. Akito deserves to go to jail for stabbing Kureno but I know Kureno will not press charges.

Also, I had a strong feeling Shigure was going to ask Akito if she pushed Tohru from the cliff and I almost felt sorry for her when he did? Tohru what are you doing to me!? D:

Probably one of the best episodes, it even trumps Momiji's episode.

This has easily been the most powerful episode so far. Akito has finally been shown grace and given a chance to start a bond that, although uncertain & unbound, is really hers. I've been waiting for this moment since the first season and have thought that I'd rather see Akito find healing than to be punished. Fruits Basket does such a superb job at building these feelings such that despite how twisted, cruel & damaged someone is, that there's still a path forward for them.

Wow that was an emotional episode!

But I can't help but to notice that it is a bit rushed.. like suddenly Akito is opening up to a person, and not just any person, Honda Touhru! whom she dispise the MOST!
And sorry but just what is Tohru? Is she Kamisama herself here??? trying to hug and talk to a person holding a knife?!??! Like is she a goddess that no one can hurt??

If the curse was meant to be broken eventually, what was the point of having Tohru here in the first place? Am I missing out on something here? Plzz do enlighten me.

Almost forgot to breath watching these last few episodes. This anime sure is great at hitting the viewers with its emotional moments.

I really wanted Akito to be the one to shed some blood instead of Tohru getting majorly injured but I guess forgiveness is also an option. Especially since Akito is quite the broken person and all she did were some minor evil actions (traumatising family members, ruining romances, beating up little Kisa into 2 weeks of recovery and almost murdering Rin, Kureno and Tohru) which easily can be forgiven.

Although not in my eyes, to the gulag with that wench!

Damn, those hardships finally paid off. I can finally see Akito's heartfelt smile on her face. This is getting better!
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

That was...wow. I'm not sure what to say. It'll take a bit to absorb all that, but yeah, that was great. A bit handwaved in terms of forgiveness? Possibly. Questionable in terms of how Akito, who spends her time holed up in the Souma estate, managed to navigate on foot to Shigure's place? Again, possibly. But, for the sake of that emotional roller coaster, I'm willing to just enjoy the ride.

I still can't forgive Akito's actions in the past until she almost killed Kureno but I hope she can find, get, and feel a lot of happiness in the future~ Akito still has a lot to learn and apologize to many but even so, still, there are people who will help her and one of them is Tohru. So much happened. So much to unpack.

Firstly, you would think of Akito as being a monster for stabbing Tohru. And yes, she is to an extent. But Akito is also incredibly broken because of the trauma she had growing up. And all she wants is to just be loved, not romantically, but truly loved and accepted platonically. Like she missed out on growing up.

And Tohru was finally someone who could see right through her. Who forgave her and accepted her, and made her feel like she wasn't going to get abandoned. Which obviously meant the world to Akito, because she was absolutely hysterically distraught when Tohru fell of that cliff. She felt empathy and guilt, even though the cliff breaking wasn't her fault. Akito really redeemed herself this episode.

And when Kyou came to Tohru when she was at the cliff. You could see how much he really, truly fell for Tohru. And how he kissed her. So sweet, but so satisfying.

And both Tohru and the Rooster are still alive! Frick yeah!!

ugh sorry guys but I was really disappointed in this episode.

I agree. I find Akito such a waste of space.
