How is this not a thing??? Isekai is so massive it has whole subgenres and unique cliches that are so well known there are practically parodies of their parodies. The list of anime is extensive, but the number of manga, light novels, and web novels are beyond counting! Aside from isege like SAO and Log Horizon which are debatably on the edge of the isekai genre, it's subgenres and tropes include adventuring, worldbuilding, politics, and drama; I love isekai for it's ridiculously unlikely heroes, and how authors compensate in originality for the genre's limits and cliches by by coming up with settings, stories and characters even weirder and wackier than the last, bending reality until something sticks with the readers. Heck, today I found a massive otome game niche in the isekai genre.
Now I'm not saying to add every subgenre, but when they're this prevalent, how is even the umbrella genre not on MAL? As a genre born in Japan, like mecha, and with it's massive boom and relative endurance in popularity, it couldn't be more deserving of it's own tag.

Would be good for Isekai/Parallel World lovers, in order to find those kind of anime easier on MAL.

Yes, indeed.

prediction: this will be merged with similar topics asking for the same thing and then nothing will happen again.

Why don't they just remove the suggestion forum. It's a waste of bandwidth.

Done. no idea how genres are added so i can't weigh in on why this isn't implemented.

Yes, and again, it will likely get merged with similar thread and nothing happens again.
However the petition might be an interesting idea. Suggestions usually get ignored, but if it would be something lots of members express they would like a tag like this, it might could do something.

like this should be added already, mangarock already has this so why not MAL aswell, if it's added it might actually be a popular genre though some people will hate cause it's too mainstream

Yes that is a great idea.
With the rising number of isekais having an isekai recognize as an official genre would make sense.

that is a really simplistic point of view; assuming that what you are saying was true, adventure=action, comedy=harem=ecchi, just because they share some points in common/emerged long time ago as a "subgenre" of this one.
Enjoy the ride...

I’m pretty sure that we can all agree that in the past half decade, the isekai genre has blown up. I’m not sure if ‘video game’ isekai should be included (Anime like Shield Hero and Konosuba), or if you’d want to blur the lines even more by having virtual worlds like Log Horizon, SAO, .Hack, etc. as a category of its own.

It's actually mind boggling as to why it isn't a genre yet. There's even a 'vampire' genre, which is hilarious since the vampire genre died out like 14 years ago.

I totally agree that "isekai" should be considered as a different genre. It would be useful mostly to differ genuinely fantasy animes from those who are more isekai-based, like characters being taken somehow from their real life realm to a fantasy one.

obviously with a demand so high for this to become a genre, I still don't understand why it isn't...

like isekai is now widely accepted as a genre in the anime community and its probably at it peak of it popularity, also isekai is likely to stay popular for a good few more years. like each season there are 3-5 isekai and usually are at least two of the most watched/discussed each season.

I approve of ArtyWolve's speech, and therefore I quote it.

It's surprising that it isn't a genre yet, when it's so big and so talked about. It's exactly as if Mecha wouldn't be its own genre but would only be included in sci-fi.

You could give more examples from this list: https://myanimelist.net/info.php?go=genre

I see at least three categories there that could simply be included in Fantasy but are instead their own genres.

It's 2k19, at the least one Isekai anime airs each season, Why is Isekai not a Genre yet... Their's well over 100 Isekai anime out there and genre like samurai and thriller have less than 200, not to mention Yuri and Yaoi at only 39 each... Isekai deserves it's own tag.

Unless there's been more revealed in the mangas, which I don't read, anime like Shield Hero, Log Horizon, and Overlord are definitely isekai, with the video game world turned into an actual reality. Or, at the very least, the lines are blurred since no answers as to exactly what happened have been given yet. Hell, in Shield Hero, the MC wasn't playing a game, he was transported through a book.

Konosuba is definitely isekai since the MC wasn't playing a game that he was "somehow sucked into", he was specifically transported to another reality by a "goddess".

Meanwhile, SAO and .Hack are NOT isekai, though they might be considered closely related, or a sub-genre of isekai. (Maybe called "virtual sekai", or "v-sekai".) The line between "reality" and video game/virtual world is pretty clearly drawn in those anime, at least for us, the viewers, though some of the characters might have trouble with that line.

The point is, in SAO and .Hack we know that, barring unusual circumstances, they can just take off the virtual gear and be back in the real world. That's generally not possible, or at least not known to be possible, in the others.

All that being said, I came to the forums to suggest an isekai tag/genre be added as well, and saw there was already a post existing about it, so I'll just add my "Yea" vote here.

It seems someone made a decision when they first came out that they were not going to add it. Now they are being pig headed by sticking with that decision even thought there's 10 times as many isekai than cars. It seems someone doesn't want to admit they are wrong.
