That might of been the strangest monster yet so far in the series.

The pacing of this show has also been strange but this episode made it more clear about the change in their world. Still got the unusual sensation Gridman though.

Not that strange if you're a regular Ultraman viewer. Love these episodes; they're so popular that almost every Ultraman series has them.

This episode was pretty top tier
“I love heroes, but I don't want to be one. Do you even know what a hero is!? For example, you have some meat. Pirates will feast on the meat, but the hero will distribute it among the people! I want to eat the meat!” - Monkey D. Luffy

It all makes sense now the reason they fell asleep on that train in the earlier episode where they went on a trip. That whole episode must’ve been a dream as well

I'm very late to this show, but I can really feel it coming together this episode. It's interesting to see an optimistic core rubbing against a world effectively run by a Dylan Klebold-tier antisocial teen. Hoping the last three episodes of the season keep the momentum going.

so far, this episode is the best. the script doesn't tell us they were under hypnosis. but the story unravels. this is what most anime lacks these days. a proper story telling.
if you want good story, read novel. if you want good graphic, read manga. anime is beyond that.

This was oddly the best episode of this show. It started off with a strong FLCL vibes to it and built a fantastic
resolution, it was the imbodiment of mystery I waited for this on this show. I have high hopes for the next three episodes.
Akane should just wake up from her God complex and enjoy her teenage years.
What if all this time, Yuta is just in yet another dream that he can't wake up from?

- i agree with you... its all that alien fault

- No, like Akane said in the previous episode.... you'll know if you rewatch it.

i remember what she said about programing the people around her to make them like her but it kind of looks like rikka's liking goes a little beyond that?
in this episode when they're talking in the bus before rikka escapes the dream she acts remotely jealous and the pink shade in her eyes is shaped into a heart. she blushes a little when akane touches her too and the ED is basically 1:30 minutes of them being close so maybe shit went down between them in the past and pushed akane to do the things she does now? and rikka has leftovers feelings or something

Akane has programmed all the people to like her. In particular, Rikka herself several times says, "I was created to become your friend." This scene was just created in order to "explore" the effect of this on her motivation as an opponent of Akane. The rest is speculation based on giving meaning to randomly taken stuff. Not to mention the fact that only a dream with Yuta is openly depicted as a “love route”, so personally I find it rather strange that Rikane shipers completely ignore this, while any potential “subtext” in a dream with Rikka swells to enormous proportions by them .

@HachiTV Yes, he really is there. But we never get an answer to the question about its purpose, so any conclusions are fan speculations. It can also be a regular message to the qeer audience, an ordinary “realistic” element of background, a real metaphor for something, choose what you like best.

Best direction thus far in SSSS.Gridman, felt like a film, glad to finally see God Zenon in action as well.

This episode didn't feel like Gridman. More like your usual psychological drama.
I had forgotten the Inoue family's hospital reference in this animation.

Forcing someone to like you never fking works. Its best to be yourself and find yourself and where you belong naturally. faking it until you make it doesn't work. Sure Rikka is a cool girl but damn stop being a sore loser and let things be.

Behold of my awesomeness~

Quite poignant. Reminds me of this interpretation of Mara only messing with Siddhartha because he's unbearably lonely.

This episode make me confuse till I found it on the half minutes. Now the target is to make Akane wake from dream. This plot is going anywhere.

That scene where Akane just falls and lands on her feet really drives it home that she is the creater of what ever they are in

First I thought she reset the world somehow, that would've been very interesting. In the end though they just used the old "It's just a dream" clichee, so that was rather boring.

I like the fact each of them figured out that they were in a dream world and didn't have to go save each other. I also wonder how far akane would've gone in the dream world with the guys since she was getting pretty close there. Also akane could've avoided all of this if she didn't keep trying to murder people in her world.

That chilling moment when you realize Akane rewrote the gang's memories to try and insert herself in their lives. To me this episode was very reminiscent of that Re:Zero episode in season 2 where
especially with how the art direction really went into overdrive and you knew you were in for something special. Really a big commentary on how escapism seems good on the surface but deep down you can never run away from your problems.

This was a really fucking good episode, I love these kinds of concept in shows, with dreams and all that. And the animation and visuals were awesome, that signature trigger animation.

Now, how are they going to save Akane, if she's even still worth saving.

poor akane. probably being manipulated by alexis. i bet in the real world (not this dream world or in the kaiju world but the original one) she was bullied and only ever wanted friends.

I don't think I've ever seen a more obvious creator's pet in anime. She's like some fanfiction author's self-insert, with the meaningless screentime monopolisation and character traits that are conveniently materialised at the whim of the narrative.

That was... awesome. Absolutely awesome.
I love the rythm of the episodes of Gridman, the slow scenes where nothing happens for 10 seconds to emphasize the ambiance or the dialogues, the cuts to express a chaotic world, Akane who does whatever she wants in her dreams, it feels so unique.
This episode has it at the maximum, I felt lost when the episode 1 started again but differently and when you slowly understand that it is Akane who is in pain, I felt so bad, she is a superior entity, a literal goddess who just wants friends and can't even make some in her dreams (and I don't say that cause I relate af).
This dream sequence was awesome. The only "problem" is that the action sequence felt off, it was super super quick and the Zenon hasn't been glorified even tho it was its first appearance.

Wow I love this serie so much
