Good for MAL I guess, but I can't say I'll ever use it since I'm not a fan of Daisuki's streaming services and their quality in their subtitles.

...Plus I don't stream.
Depending on the speed, quality and subs i might give it another try tho...

i hope this doesn't change their policy on fansubs/take down their fansub database

i am all for supporting the product but the official translations quite often tend to be inferior to fantranslations for whatever reason

I always suspected ACJ had some influence here, just not that much. It'll never be like it is on ANN in any case with the paid ad banners I hope. It seems like MAL only gets the Bandai Namco (whose attempts to cut out the middle man this week have also led to such kind of hilarious things as that new Gundam series worldwide announcement with the monotone translator and bad stream quality) game port stuff from this season though including a show that is already having production troubles and one that ran into them last time it had a cour, but I guess you've gotta start somewhere.

Speaking of the new Gundam show I assume that will be carried too next season as part of this deal.

Noticed something was up when all branding of Crave suddenly disappeared from the site. Hopefuly DeNA cares a little more about this site, I've seen some good changes lately, but only time will tell. After the mess Crave left, faith can't be restored over night.

The partnership with DAISUKI is awesome news, we really need a push to stop those who stream using illegal sites, when the anime they want is available on legal streaming sites. Obviously this wont affect anime DAISUKI don't handle, or isn't available through this partnership though. Hopefully this doesn't mean talk about, and ratings of fansubs will be censored though?

Just quickly checked out DAISUKI, their video player is Flash, so it's a no go for me. Hopefully they get with the times sooner rather than later, and realize flash is an outdated, HIGHLY vulnerable piece of software that is also highly resource intensive, slow compared to alternatives (HTML5) and to top it off it's incompatible with the vast majority of devices, so forget about using the site on any mobile device or tablet.

I don't really get the point.
Crunchyroll is already the top dog with this type of stuff, and Funimation is growing larger with better titles.
MAL is a useful tool to sort your anime and to go on the forums and discuss stuff. What's the point of trying to jump on the streaming bandwagon? There's enough of those sites already. Not to mention, Daisuki is the worst streaming service out there.

I can't see this boding well for the near future. Priorities will be swapped, new users who only want to stream some crappy seasonal anime will join, and the community...well that's the biggest part that I worry about. Things are obviously going to change, and I don't know if it's for the better.

But if this is really what you want to do with the site then I obviously can't do anything to stop you. It just seems really weird and unnecessary. But, good for you I guess. This site has come a long way.

While interesting I'm skeptical that if this gets bigger we'll run into the problem most legit streaming site have today, licenses locked to certain regions (Which is fucking stupid).

That is some unexpected development. But I have to agree with Hongu that I also dont get the point of this. Is it to give legal streaming sites more exposure? If so, is there going to be a policy change around fansubs?
Unless it updates your animelist automatically after watching, it seems like an unnecessary feature to me.

Nevertheless, congratulations on making this deal with Daisuki and DeNA.

This kind of sucks. I hope you guys don't fuck the site up even more.

j0x said:

im scared about that too

They already got rid of the fansub section on the shows mentioned in the OP so it's very likely that they'll end up removing that section altogether somewhere down the road.

i'd say this is a bad development, i like the idea of watching anime without having to go to another site to list it ( and vice versa ) but i don't think the option to rate fansubs should be removed for this.

I suspect DeNA is steering mods into doing it (please don't remove my post for this accusation, i only said i suspected it and i mean no harm) because they earn money through streaming it here (if they block you out for using addblockers that is) so openly discussing which fansub is better comes down to which of the rivalling sites ( in terms of earning money on streaming ) is best. So it would be more or less betrayal for MAL to make a shared effort to stream their anime and then tell customers some other guy offers it better

What they don't seem to think of is that in addition to preventing the advertisement of rival streaming sites, this also affects people that have a reason to watch on other sites: namely people that prefer to have their subs in their native language (in cases where this isn't english)

I'd say if we as community members, or as mods in the case of the mods that agree with this have anything to say about this, they DeNA should be able to guarantee that their subs are good enough to make sure there is no need for fansubs to improve on them and if they can't simply allow the fansub section, and unless they start offering subs in other languages at least keep the section available for non-english subs
