| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Lol, is that a Boston Crab? Ouch. Great episode. I love the energy of this show. Seems like the coaches are confident too. I like that sense of confidence although Eijun would have to work even harder to impress his team. His running is way too over exaggerated though imo lol. Seems like he also met a new rival this episode. That's good since I've always wanted to see him to take on all type of opponents on the field. |

Ohsaka Ryota needs to yell at least 2/3 times each episode because Eijun is always so worked up. It's hilarious anyhow. Ryousuke was harsh towards Haruichi, but I guess it's his way of showing his brotherly love :P And so the formation of the two batteries begin, it's too bad Eijun is rude towards Chris because he can't work with Miyuki. I don't blame him though just because Chris definitely seems very scary, almost oppressive in a way. But of course, this is all before we learn the truth behind Chris...in the next episode! |

| Well, that was an odd way to end the episode... I guess Chris is the titan for Eirun. ;P I'm predicting romance between the first year manager and Eijun because of the ED. (that I actually watched for once) Anyway, solid build up episode. I enjoyed it. Needs more Miyuki tho. Also, the baseball action scenes are fcking intense! I replayed the throws between the first three batters on the field because damn, dat animation. I can't wait for an actual full game! | "I would never entrust the three years we spent here to you." Wow, heavy words from Chris. Glad that Miyuki caught Furuya's throws but I share sentiments with Sawamura being jealous that Furuya is paired with Miyuki. But I think Sawamura will learn a lot from Chris. |

| Good ep. Eijun was shouting a bit too much this ep though XD I'm sure he'll start working well with Chris though. I can feel that Chris is an awesome guy. Can't wait to know the truth about him nxt ep. Eijuns roommates jealousy locks from Wakana and pudding was lol XD Glad that Furuya has become much more calm and polite after finally finding his place with Miyuki catching his throw. Really Miyuki is just tooooo BA!! Best character no doubt. And Furuya sucking at field play was lol. "Don't mind" XD |

I felt bad for Sawamura all over again.I share sentiments with Sawamura being jealous that Furuya is paired with Miyuki. But... Chris, finally! And Chris memo makes its first appearance XD The handshake scene between Chris and Eijun felt even better than in the manga. Was reminded again that Jun in caramel hues looks sort of... weird, but well, sort of easier to see where Sawamura's 'Spitz-senpai' came from) Next time, Miyuki, uncharacteristicly for him, snaps at Sawamura which proves to be awfully effective to make Eijun realize his shortcomings. Looking forward to seeing it) BTW, iit seems this anime is planned as long running after all, because in the opening we see Raichi from Yakushi, You from Akikawa, captain of Kiryuu team, Narumiya from Inashiro Jitsugyou and Umemiya from Ugumori (no, probably not him... his appearance is way too far ahead... well, whatever). To reach all of these they'll need 26+ eps. |

And there is something about Miyuki's character that I really like (although I cannot really point it out). Probably his being a natural pro but also having fun at what he is doing. Feels like your full potential will be drawn if you will be with him.. And oh, I really like Miyuki's character design. But anyway, Chris is very interesting too and the serious type. (But Chris is pretty awesome as well ^^) Nakama) I also couldn't stop until I've read up to the latest chapter (358 atm), and now I'm even more sure - unfortunately, I dislike Furuya, and nothing can make me warm up to him. So I won't be feeling very bad for him when/if it's not him who'll get Miyuki in the end. I think there's a little difference between Furuya and Sawamura in regards to Miyuki: Furuya just wanted someone good enough to catch his strongest pitches, it didn't really have to be Miyuki, Furuya went for him because Miyuki happens to be the best high school catcher there is (not counting Chris for obvious reasons); for Eijun, it was more personal, so to speak, he wanted Miyuki mostly because of Miyuki and the practical experience with him, only learning afterwards that the guy is a top class genius catcher (and not to be trusted outside the field because of his terrible trickster personality XD) I console myself with the thought that at that point Sawamura really was just way too ignorant about pitching and baseball in general (the guy still had no idea what kind of pitches he throws and why -_-') and needed tons of most basic things hammered into him before he could be of any use, so pairing him off with Miyuki, who, as the main catcher, already had his hands full as it was, wouldn't have been such a stellar idea. Even if Miyuki was actually willing to take up the role of Eijun's mentor (he was), he hardly had enough time to and, frankly, would've been wasted on Sawamura at the time. Besides, I like Chris-Eijun battery a lot, too - that distinctive mentor-disciple feeling I adore. The problem (besides the one that will be revealed in the next ep) is that Chris is a third year, so he can't be around for much longer, which leaves only Miyuki... I'd've loved to see a full out battle between Miyuki-Furuya and Chris-Sawamura batteries (with Sawamura as he is now in the manga), it would've been so much fun. Chris-Sawamura would've won, in my opinion. Ultimately, the choice will be Miyuki's, I guess (I'm assuming coach Kataoka will let him choose one way or another in the end). Miyuki is the follower of the 'results are everything' approach, who prides himself on being a rational unbiased thinker, but there are lots of little things that show that he is, in fact, biased ever so slightly. And he's never once called Furuya 'partner', no? rebelakuma said: They will, but there's quite a bit of wait ahead. Heh I would agree that Miyuki's character design is very likable and he has a sort of charisma, a fun and responsible personality as well. It's definitely good to have a catcher that's not overwhelming too. Especially as you said, the way he worked with Eijun in episode, someone he didn't know at all, was very nice as he helped Eijun relax and focus. And like CG said in the above post, the time will come. I was going to say that it might be a spoiler, but I think it's pretty obvious that it will happen since they're on the same team and well, he is the main character X) CG said: Nakama) I also couldn't stop until I've read up to the latest chapter (358 atm), and now I'm even more sure - unfortunately, I dislike Furuya, and nothing can make me warm up to him. And he's never once called Furuya 'partner', no? Oh hey there friend ;D I'm guessing you can read Japanese? Lucky because Chinese scans are only at chapter 319 :/ definitely a manga that's hard to put down, that's for sure! I even re-read the first 135 chapters within a week...But yeah, Furuya was only cool in the very beginning (for me anyways). You're right, despite them both going to the Seidou for Miyuki, their reasons are very different. In fact now that you mentioned it, I do believe that it's more devastating for Eijun not to be paired with Miyuki since all Furuya wanted was a catcher who can catch his pitches. And well, I'm sure there are plenty of high school catchers who have that ability...so it technically doesn't have to be Miyuki, it's just Miyuki got a lot more attention so Furuya heard about him. (but lol yeah Miyuki definitely is a devil in many ways) Now as for the rest of your post, I think it falls under semi-spoiler X) so I'll reply under a spoiler Yes, that's why I wanted to say that although Eijun is disappointed that he isn't working with Miyuki, working with Chris ended up much better than anyone thought. Well only because Eijun ended up highly respecting Chris, which is why he was able to learn so much from him, whereas like you said, Miyuki probably didn't have enough ability to bring out all of Eijun's potential since Chris mostly helped Eijun with basics and checked out Eijun's physical state to see what he needed to work on, etc. I would've liked to see a battle between those two batteries...would've been so intense with the competition! I'm not sure how much Eijun improved between 319 and 358, but I would think that Chris-Eijun would've won too, at least in terms of stamina, Eijun is still able to last at least one more inning than Furuya (iirc?) That's true, I always felt that Miyuki believes in Eijun more than Furuya, I think it also has to do with how well they work together because their personalities mesh well with each other, both being pretty upbeat for one. Plus, Miyuki had worked with Eijun first, way before Furuya even did, so there's also the history part. |

That's just the way he is - an expert in the stick and carrot approach, instrumental enough to even give you both the stick and the carrot at nearly the same time. Wow, what a smart move. I mean, Eijun is far from mature, and his antics are childish more often than not, but the level of Furuya's childishness there surpassed even Eijun's... geez, where does he think he is anyway, kindergarten or something? :eyeroll: He's lucky Tanba was mature and dignified enough to put out the flames before they grew dangerous. tingy said: Yes, that's why I wanted to say that although Eijun is disappointed that he isn't working with Miyuki, working with Chris ended up much better than anyone thought. I tend to think that Chris is, if not more talanted than Miyuki, then at least more versatile and knowledgeable, and Miyuki acknowledges it. I loved how Kuramochi rubbed it in Miyuki's face that all of Sawamura's monstrous growth was thanks to Chris, knowing that, in Miyuki's case, pointing this fact out would hit close to home. Between 319 and 358 there isn't all that much improvement for Eijun, but he did gain some skill in fielding and general awareness of the game situation, enough to surprise Miyuki. And yeah, he's able to pitch a whole game with no problem, while Furuya is completely worn out after 8 innings (it also has to do with the fact that Eijun is a lot more efficient, needing a significantly fewer number of pitches to stike batters out) tingy said: That's true, I always felt that Miyuki believes in Eijun more than Furuya, I think it also has to do with how well they work together because their personalities mesh well with each other, both being pretty upbeat for one. Plus, Miyuki had worked with Eijun first, way before Furuya even did, so there's also the history part. I so agree! I'd also add that there's their fearlessness, strong will to move forward, the shared tendency to appraise people based on their deeds instead of their status/position (Miyuki never shies away from pointing out his seniors' mistakes directly at their faces without the slightest attempt at sugarcoating it; Sawamura has a hard time getting used to using more polite speech patterns when addressing some of the seniors because they don't feel older or deserving more respect than his peers to him, I assume - Kuramochi comes to mind). And then there's the famous case with Azuma: it seemed that, just like Eijun, Miyuki didn't like Azuma looking down on a teammate, no matter how great a batter Azuma may be, which was his reason to speak up and offer help, imo - he sort of saw a kindred spirit in Sawamura, I guess. And Eijun had first dibs on Miyuki! One thing about Miyuki is that he's not one to outright play favorites and, unlike Eijun, is pretty private when it comes to his real hopes and feelings, measuring carefully how much of it he lets the others see (he even mostly avoids praising Eijun, not wanting it to get to Sawamura's head). So it's little things you have to watch with him to try and understand what's really going on inside his heart. Ah well knowing Japanese is still the best in this case just because anime/manga is from Japan so you'll always be able to watch/read everything first. Chinese is difficult and my level is mediocre so I have to refer to the dictionary sometimes ._. And I can read hangul but I only know very basic vocab , it's like learning hiragana and katakana, pretty simple. Anyways I digress. I actually found that scene pretty funny, but I do agree that Furuya is very childish. But so far in the anime he hasn't displayed that part of him that much yet. Though in the last episode, Furuya's flashback made him seem more human and relatable. Otherwise, yeah, he tends to provoke people with his words/actions. Still, Furuya's determination was kind of part of the Kataoka's plan to motivate the seniors. I think I only started to view him more negatively during the summer tournament. CG said: I tend to think that Chris is, if not more talanted than Miyuki, then at least more versatile and knowledgeable, and Miyuki acknowledges it. After all, Miyuki really looks up to Chris ever since playing against him in junior high. And definitely, Kuramochi was right to rub it in Miyuki's face, though Miyuki probably knew that as well. Even Furuya's growth can't be compared to Eijun's since Furuya's training was mostly focused on control and increasing his stamina whereas Eijun already has high stamina so he could focus on more things. Though part of his growth had to do with Kataoka's suggestion with the "wall" form. Hmm that's true, now that I think about it, Kataoka did say something about how Eijun's low number of pitches in one of the games was the most praiseworthy part and not just because of how well he pitched. Efficiency is definitely something Eijun has over Furuya as well. Glad to hear that Eijun is also improving in many other ways! CG said: I so agree! Haha yes, you pointed out most, if not all, of the similarities between Eijun and Miyuki that I could think of. The kindred spirit thing, that's interesting because I think it's true. Miyuki probably really liked Eijun's boldness speaking against someone like Azuma. And well, of course, he found Eijun to be a very amusing person. I definitely remember that one part when both Kataoka and Chris praised Eijun, and Miyuki was in the background thinking that that's why he doesn't praise Eijun. I agree that Miyuki doesn't openly show what he thinks of people, and doesn't (intentionally) play favorites. Anyways, I think I've been pretty much agreeing with you on everything so this doesn't make much of a discussion XD Though a lot of the things you said made me see things in a different perspective, which is nice. If there's anything else you want to either elaborate on or reply to, feel free to. I just wanted to say that it's not necessary to reply to this if you don't want to since we've been going at it for a few posts ^^ |

| @tingy Thanks for having a conversation with me, mate:) It really feels so nice to discuss things past the anime and the English-translated manga, and I'm really grateful. I've been starved, haha. Yeah, there's not much we're disagreeing on if anything at all, but that's awesome in its own right) Aaannd, the new ep is right around the corner now, yahoo! |

| Isayama Hajime should be awarded The Manga with The Highest Inconsistencies of Characters' Appearances. He keeps performing multiple plastic surgeries on those Shingeki No Kyojin characters in a SINGLE chapter. Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga. Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month. Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel. The 2015 SNK live-action movie would probably suck. |

| Nice that Miyuki isn't the only "good" pitcher on the team. In other words, good that he's not the sole focus for catchers. |

| Haha! I like this Chris guy. He make the main guy go all crazy but his absolutely right on his training. He ain't fucking around. And btw is quite rude to ignore a person putting his hand so you can argue about not wanting him and wanting the other guy. Chris was absolutely right taking his hand by force and showing what he should have done. |

| Another interesting character added :) I'm starting to think sports anime is my favorite thing... First I fell in love with Kuroko No Basuke and now this one is so great as well. Either they both happen to be supreme, wether you like sports anime or not, or I just love sports anime :D Then again...this anime had me look up all the baseball rules because all those positions etc mean nothing to me xD |

| Sawamura's ignorance of baseball really showed in this episode. He doesn't even know why his pitches do what they do. I see Sawamura pairing with Chris no different than the Kevin Costner/Tim Robbin pairing from Bull Durham. The older, seasoned veteran who's seen it all with the snot-nosed rookie with a lot to learn. Chris has the patience of a saint to deal with Sawamura's overexuberance. I could see Chris can takie him down a few pegs in the same way. Sawamura is very good, but has the tools for greatness, but he's hamstrung due to lack of experience, lack of true teaching and pride. |
