This was fun. Teacher with supernatural abilities dealing with unusual events at school. For what's worth, this had a old school vibe with modern look in visual standards.

Nube seems like a cool dude imo and some of students are introduced in this episode. There were definitely some goofy moments here and there. Nube's going to be busy for sure.

After almost 3 decades since the original Spring 1996 adaptation, mangaka Sho Makura's once-classic Weekly Shonen Jump veteran mainstay of the dark fantasy action series that is Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube, gets a split-cour remake courtesy of Studio Kai, and it looks just as good.

After almost 30 years, veteran VA Ryoutaro Okiayu reprising his role as the titular Domori Elementary's Class 5-3 homeroom teacher of Meisuke "Nube" Nueno, who's quite the eccentric psychic teaching a new generation of children, some of which knowing his exorcist power, though it seems like a joke to the other children because he isn't that kind of character, which makes him less appealing to the school teacher Madoonna of Ritsuko Takahashi. This is especially poignant for the student of Hiroshi Tateno, whom yet another classmate of his, Kyoko Inaba, senses something wrong about him being possessed by a Yokai.

Clearly, Nube is having some trouble with Hiroshi, and it doesn't take long for the exorcist to scout out a "tantrum worm" that hides the Yokai deep within Hiroshi that runs amok: the 99-Legged Bug. Alas, Kyoko getting caught up in the matter, until Nube makes his arrival known to Hiroshi and expel the Yokai out of him with his one-handed Oni arm, it's quite the exorcism of a job that forces Hiroshi to accept that Nube is the real thing.

There's a bigger evil in store for Nube and his students though, that came for Hiroshi, what's his deal?

Pretty solid start to a remake of a classic series!

Remakes these days really do try to modernize stuff, though yeah, this has as well with the smartphones and everything, but lol, those eyes were something else. Btw, I’d have reacted like that one kid Hiroshi as well if someone as eccentric as Nube came to teach me in elementary school. That guy still had his reasons so it is understandable, but yeah, going around claiming about your exorcism skills and whatever, which quite literally has nothing to do with the skills that a “teacher” should have…

… can only get useful in the world of anime lol. Never watched the original so I don’t if they’re skipping stuff or it was mostly this serious even with sooo many kids around, but yeah, this remake with its first episode itself has proved that Nube is a first rate exorcist and this is the best this series would look, visually. Means yeah, it can go worse from here on, but won’t go to an upper scale. Passable start but yeah, how long until everyone knows the truth about Nube? xD Hoping we'd get OP and ED next episode.

At this point, it’s basically become a normal thing to get a remake of some old-ass animanga from the early days every season. This time around, it’s actually one I sort of remember fondly for once... fondly as in, I remember the basic premise and… that’s about it, because I barely even watched ten episodes, from what I recall lol. It wasn't bad per se, but like it wasn't something out of this world either.

And even though I said above that I don’t remember much, I do at the very least remember that banger of a first episode… and uh, I REALLY don’t remember it being like this at all. They’ve completely changed the plot for… what exactly? The only reason I can maybe see for switching things up this much is because of how brutal some of those scenes were? But even then, maybe just tone those scenes down instead of changing the entire damn show?

Though I guess it still gets the main premise across… even if it doesn’t make much sense, since we’re missing so much context about these characters for whatever reason. Though, if there’s one thing I can compliment here, it’d probably have to be that final fight. Yeah, it’s not how I remember it going down in the OG, but they really made our boy Nube look pretty friggin’ epic.
The visuals were solid too, which is honestly the main reason I’m even here, considering the interesting staff lineup behind this.

And for the most part, that showed during the final fight. Although, I expected more given how interesting that lineup is. It was above average sur. I’m still a bit disappointed in the adaptation approach they’re going with. But hey, if this is what the modern audience likes now, then... whatever. Anyway, the next episode already looks visually wild just from the post-credit scene.

So yeah, as long as they keep up the visuals, I couldn’t care less what they do with the adaptation lol.

Twenty-Legged Insect: Nube is the only psychic teacher in Japan. They still have the usual introductions, like Inaba always being in the same class with Tateno and the others. Nube explains how to use the tablet; at this point, everything is still normal, just like a typical school genre. Until eventually, Tateno transforms into a youkai.

At first, Tateno is unimpressed with the new teacher, Nube, until the teacher performs an exorcism on him because he has a youkai growing large that possesses his leg.

It's interesting, but yahh...

I haven't read or watch Nube before, but it's famous enough to make me know that it's one of the earliest, if not the earliest anime to combine exorcism genre and school genre.

And while I haven't watch the first anime adaptation, I'm still glad that at least two voice actors are able to comeback in this reboot (the teacher and the doctor).

It's common to see a reboot modernize the setting with smartphone, but this is the first anime that also modernized with tablet in a classroom.

Literally punched the evil spirit out of Hiroshi. And people think teachers hitting their students is a bad thing smh.

Basic, but decent start to this remake. Looks like it's going to be episodic monster of the week stuff for most parts with perhaps some little arcs here and there later down the line.

They made some changes to quickly move the plot along (Tamamo-sensei is in the first episode and he is already a doctor??? actually I'm so happy, he is my fav), the first opening reference almost made me cry, the style and animation are good overall. I really liked it.

Feels old school. The world building specially. Reminds me of ghost stories, that was more secluded but this has similar vibes going for it. Nube seems like a fun character, somewhat similar to Onizuka. Also is that a ship I smell with the other sensei? All in for it. Simple story this episode but I liked it. Animation, visuals were neat. Looking forward to more.

Well here it is: Jigoku Sensei Nube (2025). The remake of Jigoku Sensei (1996). I've watched 25 episodes of the 1996 version, so I'm pretty familiar with this series. I don't like it that much though, but it's still an okay series. It's a bit like Assassination Classroom. Wonder if this will be an episodic monster of the week show like the original show was.

So yeah, the manga, the 1996 version and the 2025 remake all differ from one another. The most obvious thing is that they updated the technology in the remake, with the tablet computers being shown. Other than that, a lot of stuff that happened in the first chapter of the manga, didn't happen in the first episode of the remake. And a lot of stuff that happened in the remake, didn't happen in the manga (for example, Hiroshi hitting Kyoko, making her bleed and needing to go to the hospital didn't happen in the manga). Hiroshi is a transfer student in the manga, which makes Hiroshi and Kyoko strangers and the first chapter of the manga is the very first time they meet. In the remake (and 1996 version), they already know each other as they went to the same previous school. The remake seems to keep the monsters grotesque like the manga, like the monster having many eyeballs, unlike the original 1996 version, where the monsters aren't grotesque probably because of censorship. Oh, and in the 1996 version, the monster possessing Hiroshi was something completely different and was called a Kimori, and wasn't grotesque. The monster in the manga and remake is the same however: The 99-legged bug.

So yeah, interested to see if this will be a complete adaptation, but from the 25 episodes of the original version I watched, it's not anything amazing. Was never a fan of monster of the week shit. And now we have 2 remakes airing at the same time, the other one being the second cour of Shin Samurai den Yaiba.

I’m not familiar with the original series, I actually hadn’t ever heard of it until I saw this on the list of summer shows coming out, but the concept and horror tag immediately hooked me so here I am lol, and this first episode kinda ripped. First off, Studio Kai has done a fantastic job on the production, it really has that classic anime look but feels new at the same time, and the animation during the battle with the 99-Legged Bug near the end looked very awesome, if we get more metal af scenes like that, I think we’re in for a good time. Now I heard they’ve skipped a lot here with introducing the villain we saw at the end very early, and that’s a shame and all, but I can at least say as someone new to the series, I think this first episode was pretty great and felt like it flowed well.

And so far I’m liking Nube as a character, he has a good mix of serious, goofy and of course badass, almost hard to believe he’s an elementary school teacher lol, but I really like what they have going here with him, I’m looking forward to seeing how he helps his students going forward. And it’s also interesting to see the technology being upgraded since this was originally a 90s anime, I like that but at the same time I would have liked to see them try and be true to the 90s to really go with the old school anime vibe, no big deal tho. And lastly, it’s kinda cool watching this on a YouTube channel instead of the usual places I watch anime, there’s ads but it is a convenient place to watch, I’m not against the change.

And since they went ahead and dropped two episodes today, I already have another to check out, epic!

@RainyEvenings yes i'am!

Nube doesn’t mess around when it comes to protecting his students. That bug/worm got completely obliterated, and the ''Wolfman'' or ''foxman'' took a hit to the chest that finished him off.

It’s a well-known series, and there’s even a drama adaptation. This is actually a remake of the 1996 anime (which had 49 episodes, some OVAs, a movie, and a few sequels). I’ve been hyped for it since last year because I really like this dark fantasy with horror vibe. The art style also has a cool retro feel to it.

i dunno about this one... i know there is a seriously old version of it... but... hmm... it is a little modernized with smartphones and tablets... but... i'm definitely getting the feeling this is a 90's "monster of the week" show and might be weak on the overarching plotline that is supposed to tie everything together. but that is just my impression of the 1st episode. visually it is nice. not horridly stuck in the 70's like Lupin... but Nube's hair is definitely giving off 90's male protagonist vibes. especially in profile and semi-profile camera angles on his face and head... the big pompadour 'blown out bangs' seem to appear now and again.

I really enjoyed the first ep, to be honest there are many flaws in it, but that's really common with the current era of anime studio's remaking old anime's ig, but that aside it was fun to watch, the comedy is not bad but am expecting something better, the story seems to be a bit interesting since I like yoaki's and the characters aren't bad but cant judge much from the first EP as we only got to know some few characters a bit deeply, but the main thing that made me continue watching the EP was probably the animation, or action scenes to be precise.

Looking forward to the next EP!

Elementary schoolers sure are dealing with a lot this season, aren't they?

Hiroshi's exorcism was a cool display of Nube's experience and was a sick showcase of his demonic arm, but above all, cracked me up way more than it was probably intended to. Bro had zero hesitation on delivering that body blow on a kid lmao

I wasnt familiar with the original series so I watched first episode of that before this to get a better idea which I should watch and while the humor in the original was better in the into episode just a bit this wasn't bad either and this felt more creepy which works better for the themes. I feel this is better drawn and animated while still having a relatively older character designs aside from an outfit change. Though I still love some older anime light effects as better for some stuff.

Honestly, I love how they introduced Nube in a dark, serious turn and in my opinion, Nube looks a bit matured than his original one (don't get me wrong I love the original Nube) like he isn't chasing Ritsuko just being the awkward cool guy to get a girl's impression but with his supernatural obsession. Also how they did Hiroshi when he's possessed is very well done and good explantion why he's against exorcists and declining Nube's help. Also it was heartwarming you see Nube hug Hiroshi out of comfort to help which made him think of his dad since Hiroshi felt bad that he beated his dad when he was possessed, this gives Nube a father figure/mentor role in this series.

The anime I heard this used to be aired on national TV in my country, it's just that I wasn't born at that time so I came and checked it. Overall I like the main character because he has a charm like MC 90s Shounen in general. The animation is good, but I don't know how good it is compared to the original version. When I was in the hospital, I already felt that the doctor was evil. So when he came and attacked at the end of the episode I was not surprised. The fight against worms is well animated in my opinion, the main character also looks for an instant like Oni, what is he half oni human who is an elementary school teacher?

The other threads with a bunch of creep and weirdos lamenting how the kids aren't sexy anymore had me sort of worried about what this show would be about. Good to see that its much more normal than that first impression. And honestly it has a kind of nostalgic feeling like "what if Jujutsu Kaisen were made in 1992?" or something. Not sure if I'll keep watching but this seems completely fine.
