Do you think immortality would bore you to death?

Figuratively speaking, of course. Some people think that it would. I'm not so convinced. Sounds like one of those sour grape justifications. "Yeah, well, I didn't want to live forever anyway!" Personally, I think it's very possible to be indefinitely entertained. How about you?

the brain or our memory is all about use it or lose it so if youre bored of something simply stop doing it until you forget about it then just try it again when you want to try it again

No theres just so much to do. You can be a doctor, engineer, stay at home dad, travel. Live in different countries even 100 years, and not to mention things are constantly changing. Life every 200 or so years is extremely different.
So nah

i mean there are people who are, even with their small finite lifespan, bored all day. i don't think it would be a problem though. the world is too vast. it changes constantly. you forget things.

Yeah, death is part of life, and immortality would just destroy life itself.

Nah I think as long as I'm on this earth I wouldn't get bored. Hell being immortal would probably make me much more open to new hobbies like extreme sports since there's no risk of dying.

Though I guess when the sun inevitably explodes or something and earth gets destroyed and I'm left floating through space....yeah that might get a bit boring. At least until I crash land on a planet with a developed alien civilization!

Depends. Do I keep aging or does aging stop? Not much to do when I cannot think right.

Maybe once humanity goes extinct but apart from that I can’t see myself getting bored. There’s just so much shit to do and so many places to explore.

The aging stops. I'll also throw in that you somehow avoid all disasters that would make eternal life miserable, like being around when the sun dies.

Technically immortality gives one more options. For example if it were possible to transfer a consciousness to a mechanical host, one can have the option of choosing to switch on and off one's consciousness at their own discretion.

Yeah, so I would not get too bored but I would get sad watching people I like die forever.

Then I could maybe actually watch all existing anime, that would probably take multiple average lifespans.

But more seriously, the world keeps changing so much and there's so much to do, it would at least take a very long time to get bored

I would be bothered by my family dying and being alone probably so if only I could be immortal I wouldn't want to be. If I could save them all yeah there is a lot to keep you entertained. You don't grow old so you can keep doing physical activities forever, you could pick up a lot of skills, lots to read and watch etc. Would be interesting to see the future of humanity I suppose.

I can't think of many fates that are as tragic and depressing as immortality, The idea of people around you dying, Witnessing so many tragedies and disasters, Many things in life would lose value because of you having infinite time to experience them, The loneliness of no one being on the same journey as you, Having to keep up with the world and all the technologies and trends, Just general infinity scares me a lot, Regardless if what you're doing in that infinity.

Also, Yeah, I'd most likely get bored of sports after 500 years of doing them, Bored of media after 1000 years of consuming them, And maybe bored of people after like 10000 years or something, I'll still have more than 10000000 years to go though, Maybe that's just me though.
I don't speak English that much, so please cut me some slack

What is indefinite entertainment? We already get bored of the mundanity of life when we're only here for limited time, I don't know how someone who has lived for thousands of years will still find enough novelty to be entertained for most of the infinite time he would have. And let's not talk about trying to build relationships.

I don't think we can grasp the true experience of having the power of immortality. No one knows. We can speculate on the dichotomy of good and bad. But that's about it.

Probably would be if I got sentenced to life or was stuck in a boring job. Nah it's seriously nothing I ever want to experience, it was a legit phobia of mine when I was a kid. I'd get super scared over it. Mortal FTW

Idk it depends if there are other fellow immortals. I think that if you live long enough to see all of humanity and life in general die out then it would get boring pretty quickly.

How would transfer consciousness even work? Wouldn't that just create a copy of your consciousness ? You would still die it's just the copy of you that is immortal

i wouldn't like immortality in the sense that you live forever, since i would hate to see my family members and friends die and i wouldn't know what to do with all the time i have, but i think immortality in the sense where you live a normal life span, but will be regenerated if you do anything that could make you die, like if you get hit by a car, you'd respawn, would be something fun to have.

Probably not as long as humans still existed. I'd probably fuck around while pretending to be a god or something, I think it'd be fun to be the center of a cult so I could have people do absurd shit in my name.

I'm curious as fuck lol. And I'm really immortal under any condition?
Swim in lava? That I will. Run through gunfire? That I will. Fly in space like gravity ain't shit? That I will. Head off to a planet that is beyond human climate? That I will. Float in space for 12,000 years, until I meet the King of the Cosmos and we dine and party at his planet? Well, since I'm immortal, 12,000 years ain't shit.
At least give me Superman or vampire powers on top of it. Then we have a deal.

I'd love to become immortal. As long as you're alive you can always find a hobby to enjoy, or a show to watch, a movie, learn multiple languages, learn how to play multiple instruments, travel, and meet new people. You shouldn't be bored for a very long time.

Assuming you're not alone it will just alter your perception of time. You will forget the not so interesting things and get to experience the path of history and everything there can only occur once so it's not gauranteed someone would be bored.

That would be immortality + stagnation. How can I be bored to death watching the progress of our civilization? There is so much of this world we can explore that I do not think this will happen even after billions of years.

I think that people who say that are just trying to cope with the fact that they are going to die one day. Similar to people who say "I love my job," "I don't care about money," and other such projections.

The real problem is whether your brain can absorb so much information. They say the human brain can store around 2.5 petabytes or 2.5 million gigabytes of digital information, which is really not that much, especially if you are planning to live for eons.

probably choose to die at some point. I mean scientifically, human brains aren't capable of living forever. brains can't process all those fucking years you've experienced. by the time goes by, you'll go unconscious, senile. in short, death is inevitable

I don't think it will necessarily become boring, considering the endless amount of things that you can see, experience, or learn, but I imagine life would become meaningless after a while.

In various works of Fiction, immortality is actually shown to be a CURSE....not a blessing.

A curse of never being able to age.

The curse of watching your loved ones die as you stay behind.

Trust me, this would be a torturous existence.

So nah

I wouldn't be so sure, if your society declines you're left with surviving in the same ecosystem for generations and generations. Once the planet ends you may burn in the sun, or be cold in the endlessness of space for billions of years while on planets you would remain less time. Basically your only memories will mostly be that of empty space and of slowly drifting...
PERSONALLY:
I would be all for living for longer though, like 1000 more years. Enough to read some books, learn some stuff, create some art and love someone.

Entirely depends on your definitions of "you" and "immortality".
But anything short of capital G godhood, meaning at least omniscience and existence outside of space and time (which is kind of a contradiction in itself) would very likely not be boring for me, and yes, there would always be urgency, even if everyone else would be immortal too, even more so if not.

Death is a part of life, without it life wouldn't have a meaning. If you'd want to live for billion years that's fine. But not dying is too cruel

If Immortality came with feeling Eternally at peace from within ones self and the Entertainment one could indulge is was also Eternally consumed without a trace of ever feeling bored or any negative feeling that would otherwise disrupt or interfere with the enjoyment of it, then yes, Immorality is something that I would want.
