^. In anime, gifs it is often represented as a cool thing and I am starting to have this kind of mindset. I am slightly concerned. I do not smoke although I have tried it few times. |

Wild guess here and I don't really have any information to back it up, but smoking only seems cool because the effects of the "generation of cool" that used to advertise smoking still lingers to this day I remember my dad saying he started smoking because of this fella James Dean Then I saw on a manga the father of a character also started smoking cause of James Dean That was when I started wondering if that was the case but I never really dwelved deeper into it my dad and a mangaka I know reliable sources for such claim But still, it's going to be a life time addiction and going to fuck your lungs, there are other ways to be cool even nowadays trying to be cool is uncool |

Only an addiction and based on your health getting worse. That has yet been my view on cigarettes. Nothing else. |

Smoking ranks up there with wearing pants half off yer ass or jeans nothing but holes. Yer a slave to trend, and incapable of thinking for yourself if you smoke. Yer also stupid if you smoke. Not to mention you have too much money to waste considering the cost. |

Vices are not so cool. They make you addicted. Maybe when you're a kid other cool kids will think you're a grown up but when you become an adult and these addictions literally eat your salary and ruin your mental and physical health then you wont look so cool. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, but don't let a vice took over your life. |

Cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, causes many diseases, and reduces the health of smokers in general. Quitting smoking lowers your risk for smoking-related diseases and can add years to your life. Smoking and Death Cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Cigarette smoking causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. This is nearly one in five deaths. Smoking causes more deaths each year than the following causes combined: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) Illegal drug use Alcohol use Motor vehicle injuries Firearm-related incidents More than 10 times as many U.S. citizens have died prematurely from cigarette smoking than have died in all the wars fought by the United States. Smoking causes about 90% (or 9 out of 10) of all lung cancer deaths. More women die from lung cancer each year than from breast cancer. Smoking causes about 80% (or 8 out of 10) of all deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Cigarette smoking increases risk for death from all causes in men and women. The risk of dying from cigarette smoking has increased over the last 50 years in the U.S. Smoking and Increased Health Risks Smokers are more likely than nonsmokers to develop heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer. Estimates show smoking increases the risk: For coronary heart disease by 2 to 4 times For stroke by 2 to 4 times Of men developing lung cancer by 25 times Of women developing lung cancer by 25.7 times Smoking causes diminished overall health, increased absenteeism from work, and increased health care utilization and cost. Smoking and Cardiovascular Disease Smokers are at greater risk for diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular disease). Smoking causes stroke and coronary heart disease, which are among the leading causes of death in the United States. Even people who smoke fewer than five cigarettes a day can have early signs of cardiovascular disease.1 Smoking damages blood vessels and can make them thicken and grow narrower. This makes your heart beat faster and your blood pressure go up. Clots can also form. A stroke occurs when: A clot blocks the blood flow to part of your brain; A blood vessel in or around your brain bursts. Blockages caused by smoking can also reduce blood flow to your legs and skin. Smoking and Respiratory Disease Smoking can cause lung disease by damaging your airways and the small air sacs (alveoli) found in your lungs. Lung diseases caused by smoking include COPD, which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis.1,2 Cigarette smoking causes most cases of lung cancer. If you have asthma, tobacco smoke can trigger an attack or make an attack worse. Smokers are 12 to 13 times more likely to die from COPD than nonsmokers.1 The health consequences causally linked to smoking Bladder Blood (acute myeloid leukemia) Cervix Colon and rectum (colorectal) Esophagus Kidney and ureter Larynx Liver Oropharynx (includes parts of the throat, tongue, soft palate, and the tonsils) Pancreas Stomach Trachea, bronchus, and lung Smoking also increases the risk of dying from cancer and other diseases in cancer patients and survivors. If nobody smoked, one of every three cancer deaths in the United States would not happen. Smoking and Other Health Risks Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body and affects a person’s overall health. Smoking can make it harder for a woman to become pregnant. It can also affect her baby’s health before and after birth. Smoking increases risks for: Preterm (early) delivery Stillbirth (death of the baby before birth) Low birth weight Sudden infant death syndrome (known as SIDS or crib death) Ectopic pregnancy Orofacial clefts in infants Smoking can also affect men’s sperm, which can reduce fertility and also increase risks for birth defects and miscarriage. Smoking can affect bone health. Women past childbearing years who smoke have weaker bones than women who never smoked. They are also at greater risk for broken bones. Smoking affects the health of your teeth and gums and can cause tooth loss.1 Smoking can increase your risk for cataracts (clouding of the eye’s lens that makes it hard for you to see). It can also cause age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is damage to a small spot near the center of the retina, the part of the eye needed for central vision. Smoking is a cause of type 2 diabetes mellitus and can make it harder to control. The risk of developing diabetes is 30–40% higher for active smokers than nonsmokers. Smoking causes general adverse effects on the body, including inflammation and decreased immune function. Smoking is a cause of rheumatoid arthritis. |

No it's not, I never saw someone smoking and thought they were cool. In real life it's something you depend on / some kind of plaisure (stress relever) most of the time and it's not "cool". My favorite character often smoke (and it's kinda important to them) (Mamimi,Spike,Junichi,Shinichi). It's probably because I like melancholic character and smoking makes them look kinda cool. It's like they are smoking out of despair without putting any attention in the cigarette in itself. The point is that it's often far away from smoking in real life. Even if someone smoke 'this way', it gets uglier as they get addicted and stuff. So no. |

Smoking, on the other hand is pretty shitty and a mega waste of money. I've also seen someone smoke catnip, which was pretty cool. I have just formed the resolve to begin vaping once I am of age. Not because of what you said, but it just occurred to me that it's probably a great idea simultaneously as I read your post. You will receive no credit for my loss of humanity and downward spiral |

people sure like to state the obvious probably everyone starts because of the cool factor or influences (or both lol), but it does become a habit that gives you pleasure. And honestly you don't even think that this will probably kill you one day because imagining yourself 50 years later is almost like fantasy rather than reality. If anything it reduces your appetite and gives you a peculiar smell |

My opinion of tobacco is the same as recreational drugs: I personally have no desire to use them but I'm not going to judge someone who uses either in moderation. Vaping is mega-ghey though, definitely not cool. |

What's cool or not cool is up to social attitudes, which means that no one could tell you that online. If you're considering smoking though, consider this: The first few times you puff tobacco, you feel a small rush. Things feel slightly warmer and intimate. Your brain becomes clearer. After the third or fourth cigarette or vaping session, you don't feel shit, you just know you want more. Ask anyone who's addicted to tobacco what they feel and they'll always tell you that they don't even remember why they enjoyed it in the first place. You know that burning things produce carcinogens (burnt BBQ, paper, plastic, plant material, weed, tobacco, whatever). Vaping reduces the temperature in which it heats up, so it reduces the material that gets burnt. But every material has a temperature in which is starts burning, including all the flavors they add into it, and vaping pens have no internal regulator to figure out what the ideal temperature is. In that sense, a vape is not a true vape. It's healthier than cigarettes, and synthesizing nicotine oil gets rid of impurities like fertilizers and pee (yes, pee) that's in every cigarette. But the fact that you're smoking it makes it unhealthy, still. The fact that there's smoke proves it. |

My Grandfather died of lung cancer. Never got to meet the guy, my Father quit smoking right after he died. I'll never do it as it's a crazy expensive habit that only gains you cancer and a crappy life. I mean do the math, a pack of cigarettes costs like six or seven dollars (U.S) where I'm at. If you smoke one pack a day that's forty nine dollars a week. After a year you just spent twenty-five hundred dollars to give yourself cancer. Brilliant. As far as "cool" goes I've always wanted to carve wooden pipes just because they look quite nice and yeah in certain applications they can look really cool in shows and movies but in real life, it's stupid. |
