| Title is self-explanatory. Many people only watch hentai for the ecchi aspects and skip to the action scenes. Therefore, it would be logical to get rid of the surrounding plot, but I feel that doing this is an insult to those who hold the plot in a hentai very highly. I also believe plot is necessary in hentai so there is still a reason for the action scenes to occur, no matter how strange or devoid of intelligent thought these reasons are. Mindless hentai will likely contribute more to that afterthought when you realize what you just watched, whereas meaningful hentai could help you ascend. |

| Nah. I've seen hentai that is like 80% plot and 20% sex and it's just uncanny. Imagine watching a pretty decent anime only to see a unnecessary, crude sex scene in the middle of it that completely changes your view of the characters. And then suddenly it acts as if that shit never happened and goes back to the plot. It's weird and it doesn't work at all outside of anything that isn't romance based. The only plot that should belong in hentai tbh is a 1-5 minute context scene at the beginning that sets the episode up imo |

| Hentai on MAL is just a tag, defined in the site rules as something containing visible penetration, genitalia, or bodily fluids. It doesn't say it has to be arousing, just show a penis for a second and it's hentai already. Being an adult used to art-house and European movie makers: occasional display of full frontal nudity including genitalia is not really a rare thing in live action feature movies. Pasolini, von Trier, Fassbinder, Brass, Verhoeven etc. would all receive a hentai tag. So there are two things here: porn, meant for exactly one purpose, and mature films which are either about sexuality or feature it as a story element. After some selfless experiments, I'd say 98% of all hentai listed on MAL is predominantly porn. My internal metric here is plot-to-sex ratio, and my personal threshold is maybe 25% sex is tolerable when the story really requires it. And I talk about a real story here, not excuse plots using porn logic. Examples failing the criterion closely would include e.g. Bible Black or Words Worth - both are porn with elaborate excuse plots. I list those hentai in my completed of which I think that story outweighs the fap factor substantially. This would include stuff like A Kite, Mezzoforte, Pure Mail, Belladonna of Sadness, Stairs, Legend of the Overfiend, Rance: The Desert Guardian, The Sensualist, or My Fair Masseuse to name a few. I'm always interested to find new mature movies rated Rx but not porn. Long story short: Porn needs no plot, but hentai with plot (bad plot qualifies as long as it is no excuse plot) exist. Even when they are fairly rare beasts. That's in line with what "real cinema" would tag "mature movies" and give prizes to on obscure European festivals. All porn is hentai, but not all hentai is porn. |

| Depends I would like more explicit romance stories if that counts. Not every series needs to charge towards the lewd content you can have some good build up. That said others times you are just looking for something hot. |

| Under no circumstances. If they have money for a writer, hire two more animators instead or use the money to bribe the censorship officials. When 'hentai' is plot oriented, it's not hentai anymore. It's not porn if there is something more important than the sex, than providing fap fuel for the viewer - it's that simple. MAL just tags some shit as hentai for no reason except to fuck with me. There's no way Kanashimi no Belladonna is porn, it aired in fucking theaters ffs, but for some reason nudity and sex scenes have to be porn and nothing else so that arthouse movie from the early 70s is somehow categorized as porn, as fap material on MAL. That's why the tag system is a joke. |

That's kinda why you rarely find any good hentai plots, because they get stolen. So yes, I'd say hentai should and can be plot-orientated. |

| I usually go with doujin over hentai, and the former sometimes can have a good story. So for me, I think it'd at least gain my attention more. Like, you don't need an overall plot and a short story worth of dialogue, sometimes just a real cute vanilla romance scene is good enough. Then again, we all know that hentai can go down many of those dark paths, but I think people would still appreciate at least a little bit of writing... but people still like it either way, so eh. |

Also disagree that Fate was only plot with sex thrown in, because it was crafted specifically for an erotic visual novel, and masterfully I'd say. Granted, it was drafted before it was used for a VN (if I recall correctly). |

| I'm not experienced with hentai, however it rarely ever excites me. Awful animation, ugly character designs, mostly censored. If it's just about porn I tend to get bored with it and just dop it. Manga in this regard is better. It usually has high quality artwork and easier to find the adult (uncensored) version. |
