It sure didn't take long for trouble to break out with Theo and the others finding the cause of it.

Theo has some noticable damage on his body. But hey, at least he isn't afraid to take risks.
Episode honestly felt kinda slow until the battle picked up.

That Grancrest symbol though. Why is Aishela such a badass

Why is it always that light novel adaptations have such dumb politics that try too hard to be serious ?

The cringe is real, the cgi was bad, and harem is growing ...

I guess i'll stay for that busty chick Aishela.

This anime glorifies war, but look like I get more good looking men joining so I'll let this slip through my pro-peace mindset.

Still have no idea half of the time what is going on ... Some "cool" fight happened for some land and titles reason, and that fight felt like they were just pummeling noobs, just like the heroes were beating regular mobs, thought it was kinda/pretty stupid. Bad directing, crazy rushed story, not the best cgi or simply the problem is in the story, or mb all of it together. To sum it up this show feels just so mediocre and as it is 2 cour really not feeling that i want to keep up with it.
Thought that i was negative for those all those 3 episodes, but really can't find anything to praise this adaptation. Have read a bit of manga and it felt completely different, not amazing, but a bit better. I wonder how's the novel and how it is compared to the anime. I guess i'll give it another/mb last episode.

Funny. Seems like they forgot what they showed last episode.

Didn't the muscular man lost his eye in last battle? Now his eye is okay and all, lol. That's what happens if you don't stick to original source and make one yourself, you forget what you shown and go back to original.

At least now they have shown some scenes which I thought they would skip again, but still they changed some of them and changed chronology of them occuring (priest should have appeared AFTER the battle with the king, and Siluca WAS THE ONE who healed the villager not priest since she didn't appear yet).

Still at least this episode was better overall than the last one. So maybe there is still hope for this work.

It was a pretty decent episode.

They need to give me more reason to care about the political side of the show cause at this point it still feels kinda contrived to me.

The action itself however is great, the battle against the fire salamander was pretty awesome. The battle at the end was pretty good too.

Also, I've taken a real liking to Siluca now. XD

Considering is a 24 episode run, they could've kept much backstory that was omitted.

Last episode we didn't get any glimpse of the real battle between Siluca and Moreno (and the reason he hated her btw).

This one we are missing any reference to Leon the First Lord and the explanation of what the flags do (Theo's and Savis's). We don't get to see the evolution of the crest into Viscount shape either, or the fact that Theo is the only current lord that can use the "Patriot" flag.

Still, more or less decent I guess, the CGI could've been better but that's A1 for you, they may do great or they may do crap. The story as I said felt rushed, omitting one (two if you count the battle to unify territory) battles doesn't help much, overall 2.5/5 for this episode. I hope It doesn't follow this direction and they use some episode/s to fill some of the blanks they are leaving.

A decent episode. The battle against the King of Savis was cool, but the CG was weird. The battle against the fire salamander was pretty cool too, but it was dumb of Theo to charge in like that.

Some cluncky CGI but the action was good.

This anime needed more build up with time to develop the main characters. 3 eps in and i still have no idea what the MC motivation is other than some brief conversation about recapturing his homeland with not mention as to why he wants to do this.

The pacing seems quick not allowing viewers time to take in what's going on.

I do quite like the show as a whole but it has issues holding it back.

Man, this feels all over the place like Altair: Record of Battles was in the beginning. Though that series redeemed itself after 5 weeks and what not, maybe 24 episodes could save this one? I doubt it. I feel like there's a lot of lore or background story missing in this show so far so it's kinda hard to really tell what's going on. Siluca is supporting some no-name guy for some unknown reason to do something in this coming war that is apparently about to go down for some stupid reason. It just doesn't make sense really. I almost want to read the LNs to see if it's any better but then again, I don't really care about this series that much just yet. If anything, I'm just in it for Aishela's badassery. 2/5 for this week.

Reading the manga quite some time back, almost everything felt different and explained a lot more which made many of the events make more sense. I just don't get what's going on with this adaptation at this point. They have enough funding for 24 episodes but they are just doing such a half-assed attempt at actually adapting it properly.

For example, in the 1st episode, Irvine has a good reason why he stopped Siluca. Who he is or what he is even explained when Theo and Siluca met the first lord. Yet the anime did not even bother to have a single line to explain that which would have made a lot of sense. Nope, he has now been converted to simply a "servant" of Siluca.

Aaargh. So annoyed. It's like the goal of this adaptation is too see how much they can screw this novel over in 24 episodes. They're doing a pretty good job of it thus far... This is worse than Madan no Ou to Vanadis. That adaptation was quite bad (one heroine shows up in the OP but does not even appear once in the anime, for example) but it's still decent enough where it can complement the manga adaptation or novel readers. Here... I don't know what's going on anymore...

And here I was so happy to see an adaptation of this, 24 episodes even, and then see how it's treated. Anyways, I'm still going to watch it and hope that it redeems itself like what you said about Altair.

Oh man, don't remind me about how fucked over the Madan anime was compared to the LNs. 5 full volumes in 13 episodes. Like I'm glad I "liked" the anime enough to actually go back and read the source because there was SO much development and details that the anime just skipped for some unknown reason. However, at the end of the day the anime is just used as a means to promote the source. But all at the same time like you said, they have the budget to do 24 episodes but it feels like they are just screwing over the source. I mean I don't even know the source or anything, I'm just trying to see how this anime impacts my curiosity to pick up the source. But yeah, we're just gonna have to see if it gets redeemed after a few weeks.
Don't believe the hype.

Glad that Priscilla, I thought she was just some bloody Jehova's Witness to begin with but her healing magic will be extremely useful.

Fight fire with water as expected it would do the trick, that was quite the explosion though.

Damn, Theo's body has been messed up quite a lot.

That flag scene was pretty cool.

What a victory that was, Theo has gained a lot of land and power in such a short amount of time.

The hell is up with the rushed pacing in this episode? I never read the LN so I frankly can't even keep up with what the hell is happening. Actually had to read semi spoilers to understand what the hell was even happening and they skip a ton of content. They even got 24 episodes so it doesn't even make sense they rush it like this.

So I decided to catch up to the manga the other day. Lots of omitted events in the anime and Theo is completely different in the manga. I really think they should’ve added elements from the manga into the anime, though of course they’re going by light novel standards, it still weirdly doesn’t flow well and they have 24 episodes which is a lot of time.

Manga(Ch.1-4) to Anime:
1. Theo is has a more approachable attitude and a charismatic aura. He often likes talking to others and treats everyone the same. He talks to the villagers after claiming the territory and really gets to know them. In the anime they skip it all of for some reason and make it so He’s portrayed as a plain guy with a stern attitude when approaching things, it feels really bland. Props for the anime action though, it shows the brutality of territory warfare during the early Middle Ages.

2. Siluca is portrayed very well so far but this episode with the Aether Salamander was altered a bit. In the manga she displayed the upmost confidence she will slay the monster to protect Theo and the village. The villagers warm up to her like Theo. Before the battle, Siluca mentions sending out letters to the other independent lords. It’s actually her cunning skills that made the strategy successful which isn’t explained in this episode in the slightest, which I thought would display how skillful her character is.

3. There’s a whole caste system of authority and it’s barely touched on in the show. Emperor and Archduke are the highest classes of crest owners and the Knights being the lowest. Theo got to Knight tier thanks to Siluca summoning that chaos demon dog thing (also know he can’t just keep beating spawned monsters from Siluca, you need to gain crests to level up your tier after becoming a Knight).

I haven’t read the light novels since they aren’t translated at all, but I know they will overtake the manga in 4 for more episodes about given their pacing. I wish they slowed down given that many episodes.

2/5: 1 point for the gore of war and 1 for Aishela because she’s the only properly adapted waifu.

This episode addresses the obvious issue of Siluca being the one calling shots even when Theo is supposed to be the leader, offering the chance for both to have some meaningful character development. As usual, the action setpieces are great and the animation quality takes a huge upturn with the Crest sequence. The episode also delves into some of the setting's politics, what with the need of alliances and the possibility of oncoming war.

Worst episode so far.
2>1>3.

1 was a good introduction. 2 decent fight and nice introduction of the new characters. (And even without looking at the opening/ending or the pic here in the database I knew they'd join.)

Episode 3 was bad. Not exactly only the pacing. It is not that bad to pace it fast - should the later conflict be interesting and shown in more depth and slower.

But who the episodes/scenes "connect" - didn't feel right in this episode. I get the setting and their strategy. (Heard some people did not understand it cause no map and too fast rushed.) But I didn't like how he apparently conquered other stuff off screen (between the episodes) with new chars (subordinates) appearing without a real introduction. (At least a few minutes on that would have been nice.)

Also the lords that suddenly helped. (Was it only because they hate the other guy? I mean wouldn't they have to fear Theo trying to subjugate them as well?) They should have shown more about trying to negotiate with them.

Instead they show the chaos stuff and the villagers helping. Yes it was okay to let them help. And they helped because they saw Theo/Siluca dealing with the chaos. So there was a reason. And they showed it. Not just letting them suddenly appear. (Or having the fight against the chaos offscreen and only reports of it later.)

But then again: The villagers aren't that important I guess. Could just have skipped them or made that part shorter and showed more about the smaller other lords.

I'd have preferred that. Like politics and stuff. I guess the chaos isn't just for setting and it will get more important later and they wanted to show it. But ruined the episode a bit. They should have split it in 2 episodes maybe.

I just hope the mage guy and the princess won't accept Silucas offer. Want Siluca/Theo to fight them.

Edit: Since someone mentioned Madan no Ou to Vanadis: I thought that one was pretty good. But not as good as other fantasy + politics shows like GATE or Densetsu Yuusha.

I only hope this turns out like Altair - if it is really going to be 2-cour. And getting a lot better later. Hopefully they want to rush to some point where they start to get slower. (Maybe there are still chars to introduce later that are important and they want to rush there until most chars are introduced.)

So rushed. There's barely any time to get used to the characters, very little fleshing out to speak of, and the structure reminds me of a recap episode rather than what you'd expect from a regular episode, because it's a digest of 'this happened, that happened' with nothing in between.

Hmm a priestess showing up just after Theo won the loyalty of another lord. Though it looks like mages and priestesses are at odds in this world. Theo's win really got them on the roll though. Choosing to adapt the family name of a ancient hero that was betrayed by the current rulers of the island was an interesting idea though. The fight against the chaos was interesting though. So the head of the alliance is someone that Siluca is pretty familiar with huh. So the crests resonate well with users that have strong convictions and beliefs then. But the battle against the king of Savis though really was impressive and it was nice seeing all his allies work so hard. The free lords though really made a timely entrance though much to the enemies shock. An impressive episode actually that did well to expand on Theo and Siluca's personalities while also explaining their plans.

After watching the first episode I was curious so read up the manga to its current point, I was shocked to say the least that this episode encompassed the entirety and then some of the current manga, its such a rush and it leaves a LOAD out.

There is to be 24 episodes? With that much I really don't know why so much is being skipped, and its not being skipped because its not relevant, as in my opinion is IS relevant for the reasons you pointed out.

I actually got a headache from watching this episode as my mind tried to fill in all the blanks they left from the manga, I can eaily see why some people are saying they have no idea what is going on.

That said the animation is good (in my opinion) and the voice acting is nice, its just the pacing is terrible.

So I see Siluca is still wearing that high school uniform she said she hated and was "only" wearing it because she had to.

The story seems to be a bit thin on things, like how everyone is all chums after both sides lost men or that one dude being stabbed in the eye with a knife.

I'm guessing we will see a lot more short battles and Theo power leveling like crazy. He went from n00b to Baron in one day. Then like two days later took on the guy that controlled the region.

This is like watching the bullet points of a story
- "we got rejected by some faction"
- "hey let's ask the free lords for help"
The very next scene overlooking a battlefield
- "gee I hope the free lords read our letters and decided to help"
- "hey it looks like the free lords showed up and now we've won"
Siluca in some random city talking to to a Queen.
- "hey we defeated some king, can we join your alliance?"

I still don't understand what's so impressive about Theo, as far as I can see he has no depth as a character and is nothing but Siluca's puppet, I don't understand why anyone would follow him.
I don't really care about the people on some random Island either since we've never been introduced to them, they've yet to establish the characters, their backstories or the world. Basically the main character switching sides from one unknown faction with unknown motives and beliefs to another for some Island we aren't invested in has no impact.
This anime really needs time to breathe

Also who are the free lords and why have they decided to join Theo and the alliance?

Why the fuck did the Director failed when he was successful on his other work Rakugo, fuck it.

He could have slowed the story and have fleshed out the characters just like in the Manga.

Damn, I have to rely on this anime just to see what's gonna happen in the story since the manga a monthly which makes it slow and there's no one who fan translated the light novel.

The pacing was too fast and the manga was better than the anime

I guess it's one of those classic cases of "the source material is better."

Man, the MC can't swing a stick without hitting a new ally.

First 3 episodes have been a whole lot of meh, the OP hints at some interesting developments though. I'll give it one more week.

Just wtf, and this anime get 2-cour...
I like how the night fall just cause it's cool, then it's day again 5sec later, woaw, it was a brilliant transition. yeah I know "tomorrow we'll fight blablabla"

And they killed almost everyone in the enemy army and they have like, no casualities ? AH. Even if many of their men are civilians... well, hopefully the others came to help and "save" their ass. Talk about a dumb anime about war.

I'm guessing we will see a lot more short battles and Theo power leveling like crazy. He went from n00b to Baron in one day. Then like two days later took on the guy that controlled the region.

After he defeated the king he became Viscount, they just never shown it in the anime. They preferred to time-skip to Alliance capital to show the queen.
With such tempo he should reach Emperor rank by episode 9. LOL.

Omg really? This show is like reading only the cliff notes, instead of using them with the source material.

Well, obviously the latter part was a joke that he would reach emperor by ep. 9. Even I don't know what happens next since anime already catched up to manga (16 chaps in 3 episodes).
But from what we see he gets 1 rank each episode so it would be funny if it was so xD

Viscount part was true, he claimed it by defeating the king.

I just hope it doesn't become a harem, cause
