So they introduced Edgar Allan Poe from the Guild. The rivalry between Poe and Ranpo was quite thrilling and I think they captured the thrill of the episode.

Black Cat is actually a pretty cool ability and the mystery elements of the episode really bought out Ranpo's talent. I'm impressed. Yosano's "death" almost scared me a bit until Ranpo revealed how he managed to beat Poe at his own game. What a guy. This episode made me like Ranpo a lot more :>
Such a clever character.

Looks like Atsushi and the others have begun an operation to take down the Guild.

No OP. A member of Guild (Poe, the fellow detective?) challenging HiroC's character on detective thing through the novel. In despise of him losing his glasses, he can still do it when needing to do proper detective thing except he feels pain in the ass to do "manually". Year 2050?

FukuJun's character, in heavy injury, is aware of the girl who got caught. It is explained that she hasn't taken the test to be a part of them and she might never be able to. It's too late to save her and stop the destruction? The main guy is the only one can stop it. OnoKen's character getting in the way, though...

Great episode. Damn, This season has been so awesome. The first season was like nothing compared to how good this season is.

Loved the little mystery game in the first half between Ranpo and Poe. It was quite interesting to see how Poe tried to trap Ranpo by skipping the narrative of the protagonist actually being the murderer. Love how Ranpo solved the mystery as well. Though 2050? Wonder how he figured that out.
I can't believe Ranpo reasoning for claiming himself as a Gifted person is simply because he doesn't want to work. The difference between 'Master Detective' and 'Detective' is just a matter of work. xD
It was funny when Ranpo said it wouldn't be cool if he turned out to be normal after all this time. xD
Though was Poe's motive nothing more than revenge? Odd how he would give up the secrets of the Guild for just revenge.

I loved that little exchange between Dazai and Ranpo when they were planning the infiltration.

Atsushi and Tanizaki's flying infiltration was pretty cool but that badass Akutagawa entrance was the best.
The Guild decide to throw a full fledged Moby Dick bomb, Hopefully Atsushi can stop it but Akutagawa comes first I guess. Mori also renounced the agreement. :o

Ranpo vs. Poe will likely be the biggest hit for all fans of their novels, good for them.

Other than that, a setup episode for whats to come and it looks epic with Akutagawa and Atsushi meeting!

I always said that Tanizaki's ability is the best of all.

The final showdown is nearing next episode .

Anyways, the intellectual battle between Ranpo and Poe was nicely adapted . God, I missed that OST playing when Ranpo revealed how he defeated Poe . Lol poe is salty over his loss against Ranpo in the past in their battle of wits that he joined the guild only to face him and have been working for 6 years. A good development for Ranpo and Akiko , glad he used his (natural) ability to get them out quickly so akiko can heal herself , yet he still thinks he was just lucky there, and that he's actually gifted lol . Btw this face needs to be protected at any cost .

Anyways, poe's ability is "The black cat in the rue morgue". I've read somewhere that Poe's work "the black cat" actually had an unreliable narrator which is fitting to see as part of the intellectual battle between Ranpo and Poe .
Moving on, lol dazai planned the car crash against Ango both for revenge and force him into cooperation with the agency .
With guild's moby dick weaknesses obtained thanks to ranpo, the agency only needed to lay out the plan using atsushi and Tanizaki to infiltrate the moby dick . Glad they didn't remove Herman's dialogue with atsushi about moby dick .
"Moby dick was beautiful, just like the guild was in the past"

Okay, so it's a game between the "Intellect" person. About killer and detective. Not really my type of story, though. But maybe we get a "Spoiler", about what will happen in the year of 2050. LOL
Now that Jun said about it, Kyouka is haven't take any entrance examination like Atsushi before. I wonder what kind of Test she'll take when it comes the time? Can't be the same like Atsushi since she already know the Agency's face member. Maybe a Duel? Or "Ranpo Style solving case?

Well, that was interesting once again. The stuff with Edgar Allan Poe was a nice diversion I suppose, but the stuff other than that was definitely more interesting, though I really hope that Akutagawa and Atsushi can look past their hatred of each other to focus on stopping the Guild rather than fighting each other.

I can't believe this is ending in 2 weeks. I've stuck with it since its 1st episode all the way back in April, and it'll be the earliest thing to end (excluding Regalia of course, which already ended). Kind of sad really, though shows of its type will likely be around during next year anyway.

Back on topic, a pretty damn interesting episode, especially in terms of concept. Being literally sucked into a book isn't something I've seen for a while. And a bit more screen time for Ranpo and the doctor is always great.

Ok, I'm no specialist when it comes to Poe, but that trick of skipping the narrative of the protagonist murdering the victim is Agatha Christie's, isn't it? Or did Poe used that trick before her?

I'm not as amazed as you all by this episode, but I'm looking forward to the final confrontation between Atsushi, Akutagawa and Francis. By the way, could someone explain why Francis is willing to crash with Moby Dick, please?

Ranpo sure does trust his boss a lot.

So Poe's novel here was basically whatever. He deliberately left out information and used weird ways to get the murders done to make things impossible to find out. But Ranpo turns out to be too good for Poe and he wins. Poe was overconfident in his plan and underestimated Ranpo which came to bite him in the ass. He had to put something big on the table to lure in Ranpo and that led to his loss.

With the information they now have, Atsushi has been sent on Moby's Dick to take control of it when there aren't many people on it. But the Guild has their own master planner who tells them to evacuate. Now there are two people from the Guild on board (out of which one is useless for the Guild) and two other guys on board, one from the Mafia and one from the Agency. And Akutagawa is here to confront Atsushi, or maybe there'll be a temporary ceasefire since this Dick is going down and there's no one to stop it.

Ranpo vs Edgar Allan Poe was a great way to start the episode. Ranpo showing how good he is as a Detective even though he doesn't have an ability. Poe's ability is really cool. The ability to "transport readers into a novel/book." And at the end of the episode between Atsushi and Akutagawa was epic. It's going to be a rematch. I can't wait for the next one!

I thought the mind games between Ranpo and Poe were pretty cool, especially when Ranpo revealed how he figured out the mystery.

The rest of the episode was much more interesting though, and with Akutagawa showing up, the remaining episodes should be pretty intense.

How does a person end up looking so god damn cute? Yosano was a pleasure to watch this ep, and I was introduced to some sweet Rampo x Yosano shipping here, never crossed my mind but definitely liked it.

Hoping Kyouka comes back as well as Lucy, she needs to join the guild for Atsushi x Lucy sorry not sorry Kyouka

Next ep seems like it'll be an epic three-way between Rashoumon, the Tiger and the Last Emperor god dang that's a slick title At the very least we'll see some clashes between Akutagawa and Atsushi again. It also seems like it may become Akutagawa & Atsushi vs Fitzgerald later?

One thing I've loved consistently throughout both seasons has been the activation sequences of Gifts, it's just so cool how they activate their abilities (I'm a big fan of Rashoumon and Light Snow's effects especially)

I really liked the first part! Poe's ability is my new favourite. The Narrator being the murderer - I never thought I was gonna fall for it a second time, time to go and reread my favourite detective novel again. ;)

Anyone knows what was the title of the novel which Poe made for Ranpo? I could make out only the last two words. Was it Murder at the Rue Morgue?

I also liked the focus on Ranpo this ep. I had forgotten that the word Detective is there in the name of the Agency :p Seriously, I could watch more of these guys solving cases instead of always being at war with others.

I liked the last scene aboard the Moby Dick, the background was amazing.

Final fight coming up next, maybe Akutagawa and Atsushi will team up? Doesn't seem possible though.

Poe in the manga was a lot more shy and adorable, so I'm not very happy they cut a few moments. I wished they animated Lucy kicking Twain in the manga as well.

I'm very happy they adapted the Poe vs Ranpo duel, since it gave some screentime to both Ranpo and Yosano (whose role in the Guild arc was reduced) and because it was important for the infiltration on the Moby Dick later.
I also loved how they portrayed Poe (even when his design here felt like if he was just a discarded design for Dazai) who was imo one of the most amusing members of the Guild, if anything for his tragic backstory and how socially awkward he is. Surprising Bones decided to cast Toshiyuki Morikawa as his voice actor, but he did an excellent work, as he always does. Gotta love his ability and his cute pet raccoon too :)

Also, is must be some thing of mine, but, I'm the only one who felt Yosano and Ranpo are very close to each other? In both this and the manga I had that same idea, and the fact that Yosano said she joined the Agency due Ranpo only makes me more sure about that. I have the feeling that their relationship is not like the partner/friend relationship that Atsushi and Tanizaki (for putting any example) have, but something closer, like if they were friends before joining the Agency.

The second half of the episode was just build up to the final battle against Fitzgerald. Loved how Dazai said to Ango that Yosano will heal him... If only Ango would known how she heals her patients xD
Glad how they adapted Melville's conversation with Atsushi. While reading the manga I felt a lot of pity for the guy, since he practically lost a friend when the Moby Dick was modified and never tried to opposse the Agency. I hope Bones adapt the part when

And the episode ended in a really good note with Akutagawa and Atsushi meeting. It seems they will spend the remaining two episodes in the fight against Fitzgerald, and that is good, since that could indicate that

For the little story, Tarô Hirai's pseudonym, Edogawa Rampo comes from Edgar Allan Poe (エドガー・アラン・ポー, Edogā Aran Pō).

At a moment, I thought that Atsushi and Akutagawa will collaborate, but I think someone is a little angry since a battle on a ship.

I like the detective game between Ranpo and Poe. I sense some shipping with Ranpo and Yosano. xD

I bet Dazai planned it all along the car accident with Ango, why Ango's airbag didn't work, so thats why he did get injured. Dazai wants to do agreement to Ango, in exchange of Yosano's gift healing to heal him immediately, he will help to save Kyouka. Dazai's smile explains everything. xD

Next episode seems like a tag team between the Atsushi and Akutagawa vs. the guild leader.

Nanashi said:

One thing that annoys me though is how cliffhanger-like the episodes feel. We don't know about the current state of Akutagawa (we know about both his enemies already) and we don't know what exactly happened to Kyouka... I mean she just comes back out of nowhere to safe Atsushi. Then when the rescue "fails" she attacks the cop and gets surrounded by police. Before you remove her from the story at least tell me she isn't going to get executed >.>

That's what I'm talking about. Purposely not revealing information and then show it all in one episode to open several story points at once.

well w/e. The first half was kinda funny even though it felt like a cheap way to give them a chance to defeat the Guild. Yosano's reactions are the best :D And even though Ranpo doesn't want to admit it I guess he knows he is just a "normal" person. I mean he wouldn't have much of a justification to be part of the agency without special powers - or at least that's probably what he is telling himself.

lol a invitation for a detective game from the guild eh
sounds like a trap

hmm so E A Poe is the architect of the guild eh
and a reference to Edgar Allan Poe no less
and it seems Poe has a grudge too

hmm thats a rather tempting prize
the guilds weaknesses

but man the villain looks like a dark reflection of Ranpo lol
hmm the ability to suck a reader into a book
now thats a neat ability

hmm a classic locked room mystery eh
seeing Yosano dressed as a doctor even though she is one but well

hmm so Ranpo still hasn't figured that he has no powers
just pure deduction ability

lol Asano can be quite intimidating eh
thats one way of dealing with stubborn girls lol
hmm Yosano using herself as bait to draw the killer out is so like her

and thanks to Yosano's sacrifices and words Ranpo was able to solve it
worth being stabbed with an ax i think lol

wow talk about an impossible mystery
if the murderer exits the novel as soon as Ranpo enters it
then the mystery becomes unwinnable

man that mystery was short but pretty entertaining
hmm so i guess the intel checked out eh
glad to see that it was intel and not something else

so was Lucy's help a ploy then to let Atsuchi escape i wonder
or was it genuine
and Kyoko did get captured eh

next episode is going to exciting

given Kyoko's reaction when confronted with a stressful situation
she won't be able to pass the entrance test at all

nice the agency has a secret chopper
given that Atsushi has been on the moby dick before he is the best choice
and lol Akutagawa having the same idea as well

so stage two of their plan was to use Moby dick as a bomb eh
given its mass it can cause a lot of damage to the city
so the owner of the moby dick cares about it and is part of the old guard as well
interesting how he now see's the guild as worst than before

This episode was interesting with Poe's gift being able to send people into books. That's really cool. Then the way Ranpo struggled without his glasses really gave him some form of development, but he still can't accept he's not gifted.

The ending to the episode just shows that Akutagawa and Atsushi are going to have a huge fight even though their on a time-limit. I feel they might call a temporary truce seeing as both of their organizations are going to be crushed by Moby-Dick. We'll have to wait and see.
