I'm glad I read this thread, and went back, but I still don't see the implied kiss, but I'll take your word for it.

I really thought Ayu would wish for Yuichi to be happy or something like that. I know that would be so cliche, but....

I have to say that Makoto's arc still stands as my favorite though xD

I was never a big fan of Ayu, and I don't think that I will ever be. Her young lookingness just doesn't fit right with me!

I was fine until the part with Ayu.

This kind of brings up the issue with Key's magic in Kanon. It's not tactfully spaced, there's too much of it in short bursts, and then there isn't any for a while, and the only thing it does is adds confusion to an already confusing series, since they really don't explain everything that well in Kanon.

This episode also made me realize they throw around apologies and have dramatic moments more often than the US has issued false political statements. Yay.

The series is good. Don't get me wrong. But it's suffering heavily from lack of organization in elements relating to the plot.

I'm glad Nayuki decided to snap out of it. Emo Nayuki isn't cute at all.

She's scary when she says "liar" or "get out." She's got vibes of Rena from Higurashi.

Well said. I was just trying to figure out what was "weak" about the drama and magic and the way it was presented in the series, and you summed it up perfectly.

What a great episode really quite the tears again when re-experiencing the scenes that where also in the 2002 Version!

I was surprised about the real Makoto Sawatari "grown up version" to have a role in this, she was never shown in the 02V so indeed it was something interesting to see the Fox Spirit taking up the whole role of Makoto Sawatari!

The dream was a bit confusing at first but it seems they did it like that, as it was a part they also did in the 2002Version.

The scene after that was really tear jerking! Same with the 2002 Version and perhaps even better expressed and made! Especially when she disappears out of Yuuichi's hands was really a sad moment!

I do hope to see two more attributes in the last episode that I'm currently missing!

T.T, this has gotten sad, I was hoping for Ayu to come back but I'm guessing her last wish was something very selfless. I wonder whats going to happen to all of them from now on.

Oh for fuck's sake! NO! I can't accept this, what was the final wish? I hope it's not something like that they should all live on and shit.
I really hope the final episode is not a recap after all, at least make it have an ending where they show her coming back!

Awesome episode 10/10
We get to see Makoto the fox lay near Yuiichi just before the real Makoto picks him up, oh and we her AUU again in the beginning of the episode. The whole Yuiichi x Nayuki kiss is only implied, and if they did they would be acting different than usual from here on out. I'm still confused how did Ayu appear to the others since her body is not really there? Was Ayu able to create a manifestation of herself through her emotions?

BTW I think deep down Yuiichi really liked Makoto(fox) because when he was having problems he always took out the picture of Makoto and asked himself what advice would she give him. I prefer Yuiichi x Shiori or Yuiichi x Makoto because I feel like they are more responsible while Ayu is more childish and still hasn't matured much.

Finally, who would have thought the real Makoto loved pork buns also(Yuiichi opens fridge and sees 2 pork buns). ^^

Okay after my rewatch of this episode, the camera angle is identical to the one where Ayu kissed Yuichi, so yes Nayuki and Yuichi kissed. It just happens so fast, and then its done with again. You blink and you miss it.

... I don't even know what to say now. ARRGGG THOSE CLIFFHANGER!!! This show always make you want more, still there's only one episode left.

Ayu speech during that episode was fucking depressing, seriously, I was about to break down. Weirdly, even if I wanted to cry, and I'm normally a crybaby for those thing, I couldn't drop a tear. Maybe I'm becoming habituated to that kind of show, even through my chest felt like it was crushed a thousand time.

In the preview, we hear Shiori talk with Yuuichi. For some reason, it cheered me up a bit.

Fuck me, I wanted to go to sleep after that, but now I can't, due to that GODDAMN CLIFFHANGER!!! xD

All right, a point:

The Makoto ending is not yet discounted. When the real Makoto showed up like that, I was suddenly reminded how Yuuichi said he had a crush on an older girl and named his pet fox (Makoto) after that girl. When Nayuki was talking about the boy she used to have a crush on (clearly Yuuichi), she said that he liked someone else - I assumed at the time she was referring to Ayu, but I had forgotten that he had a crush on his neighbor, the real Makoto. More importantly, however, Nayuki said the boy she had a crush on was still chasing after that girl. Finally, it's obvious Yuuichi didn't truly move on past Makoto (the fox or the real one). At several points during the series, he'd pull out something to remind himself of Makoto and ask what she would do. When he felt like he was going to die in the snow, it was Makoto who appeared to him and Makoto to whom he called out.

It makes sense that the fox Makoto is identical to the real Makoto. It was because of his crush on Makoto he named the fox after her, so when the fox manifested as a real human so she could be with Yuuichi again, she took on Makoto's personality entirely.

Still, even if the Makoto end comes about (which the above signs are ultimately pointing towards), it won't feel quite the same because it was the fox Makoto I fell in love with. v.v

Finally, I'm still really confused on what exactly happened with Ayu. I get that she was dead, but was she meant to be an angel or a ghost? And why the hell would he leave her out in the clearing to die instead of trying to take her to the hospital? >_>

Anyway, this episode was very tragic, and it's the first time the series made me cry at all for quite awhile. Still not episode 10 "sobbing all episode" feels, but damn if Ayu's final scene with Yuuichi wasn't terribly sad.

On to the next episode!

Why?! Why did they remove the most important scene in the 2002 version: the final kiss? Well, I guess KyoAni did pay it back for the real deal drama in this. That Nayuki ending scene was something I could never wish for in the original one too.

I teared greatly despite watching this technically twice. While Ayu's disappearance was less dramatic compared to the 2002 version, the colours of sunset used, the gradual fade away to the darkness, still defined KyoAni's version as a comparable fight with Toei's version. Yes, Toei really shined when it came to Ayu's arc, if one can tolerate the art and poor graphics. I have to deny if one says that KyoAni made Ayu's arc better than Toei; I personally felt that both were equally great and unforgettable.

The Nayuki addition in the end was priceless, and also missing in the 2002 version. I remember Yuuichi was about to leave Nayuki in the old version, and in the end triggered the part which
(HEAVY SPOILER FOR NEXT EPISODE) Now I wonder how KyoAni deals with the ending, as I am ever so slightly unsatisfied with the Toei ending.

Although, I was uncomfortable with the real Sawatari Makoto addition, as I found it unnecessary and somewhat of a mood-killer. She saved him, yes, but...I cannot really describe my take on this as it is more of a feel sort-of when you watched the 2002 version in the past.

I guess the greatest part of this episode was Ayu making the third wish, just like how it was in the original and copied similarly. Yes, I still can't forgive the fact that her disappearance in the end was more abrupt than in the 2002 version (ironically again). Now...off with the finale.

so a lot of questions got answered, but still this anime is confusing or maybe should I say too fantasy-like and unreal, this is also what I disliked about Clannad with unreal story about Fuuko.

I hate it when anime/manga that I enjoyed ends, especially when there could be much longer plot and when I love main heroine :P

I don't get why people thought the kiss was implied in the end when the context doesn't make sense at all. They most likely just walked toward each other to hug. It's not suppose to be a romantic scene but family focused. What got Nayuki to open her eyes and get better was how she was reminded by what her mom said to her previously about supporting your family in hard times. Her going to Yuuichi to support him is the outcome of that. She already accepted that Yuuichi loves Ayu and Yuuichi clearly loves Ayu so much to the point that he didn't mind dying to see her. Why would they all of a sudden kiss? No one can move on that quickly.

Also, the context in the VN is completely different in comparsion too so to bring the VN up is absurd. In the VN, Yuuichi is focused on Nayuki. He decided to wait outside in the snow on the bench for Nayuki to show up. Nayuki shows up and asks for his support and he promises to be along her side to support her. It had a lot of romantic dialogue and then they kissed. It was clear that he loved Nayuki in the VN. In the anime, it's completely different. The romantic aspect is removed. He's on the bench in the snow and he's in depression because of Ayu. The only thing on his mind at the moment is Ayu because she just disappeared. Nayuki shows up specially to support Yuuichi and she asked Yuuichi to promise her that he would stay strong. It's the other way around compared to the VN.

Thank goodness Yuuichi had enough common sense to say no to the asinine request to forget Ayu. I hate those requests with a passion; they only get worse when they are followed through.

intense episode. What third wish? Got to watch next one to find out.

nice to see Nayuki recovered, or at least partially recovered from being depressed.

So the real Makoto likes all the things that Fox Makoto did as well :D

Wonder what Ayu's last wish was and glad that Nayuki has gotten better now.

I'm surprised the real Makoto also has a bell and meatbuns. ^^

I can't follow anything that happened here, Ayu coming back so suddenly and is gone again, okay...?

Even Nayuki not being depressed anymore seems so sudden, like we're lacking the interaction she had with Kaori

The fox Makoto is still dead, though. I feel sad for that poor animal.
A bittersweet end to Ayu's arc. It's time to move on to the wincest! Mai is also a splendid option.
I wonder if there's a twist in the last episode. Was it all just a dream?
