Yes, you just know something is out of the ordinary when Maomao gets called up, I mean I think it’s because of her actions, but yeah, she does tend people to think that she can be helpful to them. Also, as we know this inner palace ain’t very kind to people of lower standings. Maomao is lucky that she gets to work with Gyokuyou and others, and most specifically Jinshi, that she somehow managed to evade all of what that maid from crystal palace suffered… because that was straight up inhuman.

I fucking loved Maomao and her plan of barging into the crystal palace in full make-up, because even she knows no one would be able to figure out that she was INDEED Maomao herself lol. Shin looked like she saw a ghost, I mean can’t blame her as well, as I mean the stuff Maomao did later really brought everything into light… exposing her left right and center lmaooo. She was jealous of Lihua, that was pretty obvious, but yeah, planning such that she gets yet another miscarriage is again.. pretty criminal, against your own sister, nonetheless. THAT BITCH SLAP WAS FUCKING SATISFYING… really Shin deserves the worst. Maomao, my girl, really took her sweet revenge lol. Love her a lot.

And it almost ruined several others.
Luckily it was stopped before it managed to ruin the others tho.

Holy shit! One of my fave recent episodes and cases and one Maomao best performances. She was ruthless today and I can’t say I blame her 🤷🏾‍♂️

I get Shin was upset about not being chosen for a position she worked her whole life for, but that wasn’t Lihua’s fault. Plus, she literally lives in the rear palace and has a job most people would kill for with none of the responsibility. Should’ve been grateful, but instead her greed and desire for power won out in the end.

The way i wanted to jump thru the screen when she scratched Maomao face.. thank God Lihua slapped her annoying ass. She showed her way more mercy than she deserved by just firing her. All in all, the best outcome all parties could’ve hoped for. The young servant girl will get the treatment she needs, Lihua baby is safe and now we know someone is spreading rumors about the abortion medicine.. but who and why? And why does the emperor not seem happy about Maomao helping out 🤔

Attempting to harm a consort's unborn child was bad enough but Jinshi was probably thinking of the death penalty for hurting Maomao right in front of him. Kinda neat how the quack doctor got to be part of Maomao's palace investigation ops too.

Also, Maomao reaching her hand out to Shin instantly made me think of the cursed grabbing smiley lmao

Damn, don't tick off Maomao - lesson learned this week. Head attendant definitely took things a little too far and it was amazing to see how Maomao unravelled her true intentions to expose her completely in the end there!

I don't know if I read too much into it but the last few seconds with the Emperor's deadpan expression after Lihua-sama brought up Maomao's name. Next ep preview backs it up a little bit too...

It's a good thing that Maomao finally let Jinshi-sama know about the uncanny incidents piling up and to prepare for something to drop eventually. Interrogation better get something out for their best interests.

Maomao returns to play a big role as a great pharmacist, she gets a call to help someone who is in the crystal palace.

This case is also still related to the perfume that previously appeared when the caravan was held. I didn't expect someone like Shin to be involved and also her evil motives.

But again this is about jealousy and whether it is appropriate or not. Well, indeed I think Shin is not the right person to be in a position like Lihua now, seeing the emotions that have taken over her so that she is unstoppable and makes her really a bad women.

Sure, is important the medicine part, but getting the okay to investigate, is more important in this case.

Crystal Pavilion really need a personnel overhaul.

That moment when Maomao compared both chest sizes, is literally the "Soyboy vs Chad" meme.

Somewhat surprising that Lady Shin is not going to interrogated under torture about a possible wider plot. Too many threats and hazards to concubines and scions within less than a year not to suspect one, even with her having her own motivations as well.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

Best episode of the season so far. It's really nice to see Lihua being a much better person having more of a resolve than her previous suicidal self back in Season 1. Gotta love how Maomao will take things as savagely as possible to reach the truth when given the reins.

Good thing the woman at the clinic is so observant and quick to act by telling Maomao to find the sick woman; if it wasn't for her, Shin wouldn't have gotten what he deserved.

Every time Maomao enters the Crystal Pavilion, she unleashes her most furious side. I loved watching Lihua beat Shin up, it was so satisfying! (That's why she's one of my favorites, rivaling Gyokuyou.) Because of Shin, Lihua had to endure the loss of her first child when she got rid of Maomao's message. Thankfully, Maomao saved Lihua and her baby once again.

But who's spreading those oils? And what was the emperor thinking after finding out what Maomao did?

P.S.: GO TO HELL, SHIN!!!

I'm glad Lihua's case has been solved fast. I've been worried for her ever since the second episode when it was hinted she was pregnant, she touched her belly and Shin got the results from the doctor too but was plotting for the abortion with the perfumes. Thought this case would be focused right away but it got pushed back to sixth episode. I'm just glad Lihua's safe now. Hope she gets a better lady in waiting. Also looks like the emperor might have something for Maomao.

Xiomao at her very best

"Sometimes I get angry too"
Loved seeing her this ruthless. She has valid grounds too. Leaving a sick to die is bad on his own but plotting for abortion of emperor's child no less. Shin should have been hanged.
And all of this from jealousy to your own sister. Seesh rot in hell bitch.
Why you are not chosen as Maomao said bigger boobs...W

Lihua has been very unlucky throughout the series with miscarriage, almost dying due to negligence to losing her will to survive and was about suffer more if not for Maomao.
Seeing her slapping this bitch was awesome and oh so satisfying

Yas queen slay...💙
Should have beat her up more.

It not like any episodes are not good but this was best of the season so far.
And finally some Jinshi and Emperor plot next time.

Basically Shin was jealous of Lihua since she was the one that was picked. Lihua gave her a nice slap but overall still quite a generous light punishment for literally trying to kill the emperor's child using abortion drugs. Lihua definitely a different woman than before though. I hope this time she gives birth to a healthy baby that gets to grow up.

Woah, Maomao's court lady disguise is so pretty...She really has all the best outfits. Very clever of Maomao to wear those wooden high heels to increase her height, further masking her identity until she was able to sneak in boldly from the front gates in plain sight.

Interesting how they used her disguise design from the 2nd concurrent/alternate retelling manga adaption instead of of the Nekokurage's mainstream one that was used for the anime up until now. Looking back at last week's preview, it seems they intentionally saved this as a surprise by hiding her face. I guess they're mixing it up a little for the anime to spice things up, or maybe to promote the manga. I personally prefer her disguise design in this arc from the Nekokurage's version, but it's nice to know that the 2nd manga adaption by the mangaka, Kurata Minoji, is getting some love too.

It's too bad that the head court lady was only being charged with the conspiracy to create an abortion drug to cause infanticide, rather than deliberately forcing the servant girl to horribly die a slow and painful death in the shed like a some dog. But it is what it is; that was just how things were back then with social hierarchies. I'm glad she survived though, and got proper medical treatment in the nick of time. She will likely not return to her old job place, but that would be for the best given the toxic work environment she was in, because despite working for the kindhearted Consort Lihua, she didn't report to her in the rigid chain of command. Reminds me of my old job, where I had an amazing and understanding boss/owner of the biz, but absolutely terrible supervisor manager that everyone hated and drove people to quit one after another, but I digress.

I liked how during the questioning, Maomao logically probed her slip up to reveal the truth that Lady Shin couldn't plausible deny without contradicting herself. In another life, Maomao could be a PI with her investigative skills, or prosecutor lawyer pressing suspects during cross-examination. That entire room was pretty much a courtroom drama: Jinshi the Judge, Gaoshun as the Notary and/or Bailiff, Maomao the Prosecutor, Consort Lihua the Plaintiff, and Lady Shin the Defendant who is also representing herself, as there's no Defense Attorney/Counsel. Maomao delivering that last comment about how she never loved the Emperor, but rather the status of Empress...she rests her case. Verdict: Guilty on all charges, but managed to escape the maximum punishment because the Plaintiff dropped the charges and asked for leniency.

Concubine Lihua nonchalantly making a fist ready to give a beat down was also funny to see. That was her mercy though, as no matter how she punished Lady Shin, it would still be infinitely better than the death penalty via hanging/beheading, or have her family's assets seized like how both happened off-screen during the poisoned honey/assassination attempt case.

LMAO, Maomao knowing the "real" reason why Shin wasn't chosen, but keeping that comment to herself.

Notice how Maomao didn't use the embroidered fine silk handkerchief for her cut injury and just pocketed it out of frame....that's free money 💰👀

It's nice to know that Consort Lihua is with child again just as she earnestly wished for, after being devastated by the death of her first child, the late crown prince.

Next week, a new arc.

The conspiratorial, competitive, and corrupt environment of the Forbidden City (palace complex) that they live in will help bring to the fore any selfish, self aggrandizing, jealous, greedy and conniving tendencies that the inhabitants have. If it is in them, it will likely come out.

They're working one more rung up the ladder. Each step is closer to whomever is the real mastermind behind all these scents being spread around the rear palace. Maomao has done another great job uncovering A dubious individual among them. This time the head lady in waiting for Lihua named Lady Shin. Another tragic tale of jealousy turned fatal, we saw a sinister looked on Shin face A few episodes ago but who knew it would turn out like this. Maomao had been gathering information from all the prior incidents and she knew something was up. I'm glad she could save that girl locked away in the shed. I know she was sick but that was too cruel. Shin tried saying they had been treating her but we even saw she scolded the servant girl who tried taking the sick one food. A very satisfying scene having Maomao, Jinshi and Lady Lihua herself confront Shin. She had obviously been trying to concoct an abortion poison from those ingredients the caravan brought. Jealous of how Lihua was chosen as concubine and potential empress Shin just couldn't handle that. Its sad seeing these incidents breaking people apart but something must be done and the root cause must be found. They're getting closer!

What's with the slaps in this series being so satisfying?

Certainly the most tense, and the best episode of this season so far, with Maomao being relentless on this case with Shin and Lihua. I liked the connection with Episode 4 of Season 1, with the face powder case in the Crystal Pavilion. Lihua just cannot catch a break with the attacks against her, but she has grown quite a bit since then, really being proactive in what she does. Just as Maomao slapped someone in Season 1, this time, Lihua slapped Shin, and man, are those slaps satisfying to watch. Again, there are some loose ends from this case, as we wonder who informed people about the abortion medicine. That might be something to address in the future.

Maomao's hopping cat-attacks on the poor innocent lizard was hilarious! all she got out of it was its detachable tail... luck saved that lizard from becoming a test subject! i wonder if that was the author's little joke using Marvel's 'The Lizard'... Maomao wanting to study and recreate the tail regeneration?

@Marinate1016 the plot is very twisty... Maomao's dad used to be the rear palace doctor years n years ago. two of the previous emperor's concubines were pregnant at that time and giving birth within hours of each other. one child was lost and the other survived. Maomao's father was banished for not being able to save both children. the story is more intricate than that, but it just needs a thumbnail sketch. or other elements of the show will be ruined.

I was surprised at the pure level of vitriol Shin had for Lady Lihua, I thought she'd have some sympathetic motives like Fengming did. I suppose it makes things more realistic though, sometimes people are just jealous. She got off far too easy in my opinion.

Maomao was incredible as always, love seeing her go on the offensive. I wonder what the Emperor is thinking, he's a very interesting character despite not seeing much of him.
