THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I'll just re-post what i posted last time:

Not bad, Flit is a pretty good MC.

and btw for all u saying he is 14 years old, I don't think that's right.
since they r saying that the incident happened 14 years ago. And they showed us that Flit was like about 3-4 years at least, so if u add that together he should be about 17-18 years old.

Well, it is true that the character design shows otherwise though.

It wasn't all bad but it wasn't good either. Certainly not worthy of Gundam (ok, maybe Seed, but that's a whole different story lol). I really hope it picks up since for now it's just an average shounen with tacky dialogue (fell off my chair laughing at the part where Flit swears vengeance for his mother and the chick almost faints) and cliched plot. Looking forward to what happens...

everything was alright except for the character designs. They looked like they were primary school kids. At least the Mecha's were better...besides the Gundam that looks like a mix-mash of recycled bits from older series. The shield reminds me of Gundam 00, and the color scheme certainly isn't anything original.
What saddens me even more is the 2nd and 3rd protagonists are apparently going to be 15 and 13 years old. Uhhg.

I don't care what anyone says I think this started off good and AGE could turn into something great. Don't hate on it because of the character designs and its children rating. It can be just as good as any other Gundam series, but you won't know that if you drop it on just based on the first episode. Cause 00 was complete shit until around episode 8 or 9 then it gotten very good.

5/5 for this episode it was actually pretty good for an first episode cause most anime I watch it takes me 5 or 6 episodes to enjoy for the most part.

Ah, rollback is a bitch eh?

Anyways 3/5, completely middle ground as far as I'm concerned. Minor annoyances in the art department and how the enemy can possibly be completely unknown even after 14 years, but otherwise it plays just like your average Gundam first episode.
Slight minus points for the sloppy battle scenes too, both the GM clone and the Gundam just stood there, taking the enemy's attack like bitches, that wasn't very clever or exciting.

I don't know whether to hope it shapes up and redeems itself or falls flat on its face. I hate, hate, hate . . . . did I say hate? . . . the character designs, the mech designs and everything else. Except the back grounds. The backgrounds are nice. The image of that Saturday morning cartoon bus wobbling down the a beautifully illustrated street is burned into may brain. Gundam goes pokemon. Arrrrrgh!!! Leave this kind of crap to the SD and G crowd and give me some goddamn Gundam!!!!

He doesn't even look 14, more like 7 to me. The extended preview shows the ages of most of the main characters. Whats-his-butt is listed as being 14.

damned rollback, but

I'll repost what I said last time: "Average" in every way, atleast in my view. While I liked Frit's will to fight compared to other Gundam protagonists early on, everything else felt out of place or rushed to me. But it's still only episode 1 of 50, so there's still some hope, I suppose.

As a generation raised by G Gundam,

let me say that it's not that bad. It's not great as SEED or 00, but i'm still okay with this.

But, they really need to upgrade the story from a simple Pokemon/Digimon-esque story to a normal gundam one. And if they went for the G Gundam route instead of the Gundam 00 route with this one, then i don't mind. I want some Gurren lagann/GaiGaoGar in my Gundam.

I like the animation, because it reminds me of Doraemon and Astro Boy back in my early age. And some of the characters look like they were drawn with a retro style and i think that's great because i'm kind of a nostalgia guy when it comes to mecha.

And Hiroshi Kamiya and Minako Kotonuki were supposed to be in this. What happened?

So far the story is real simple, but I can't say it will stay that way from just seeing one episode. We'll just have to wait and see. As for the art, I got adjusted to it pretty quick so it didn't bother me much. Well of course besides Vargas who looked like the Dr who built Megaman. Anyways I imagine each protagonist will have 2-3 alternate forms for the base gundam*basing this off of the other 2 gundams in the opening and in the scans* as well as a possible 2nd gundam mid season. I hope so anyways.

Dunno why this gets put down so much by UC fans...Other than the art style this was the standard gundam pilot episode. I bet if we swapped the art style and inserted a whiny and preachy brat in place of flit the Uc fans would be praising this to no tomorrow.

I know Flit is a good character so far at least he shows determination. Amuro and Kamille were whiny little bitches. I just hope Flit's character doesn't sink that far. If he does I'll still like him, but I hope he keeps his determination all the way though this arc of the story and don't go off the deep end.

well compared to Gundam UC which has similar pattern on episode 1 (hint: going to college, Unicorn canvas/Gundam canvas -in Age-, destroyed colony, and meet up with Gundam) this kinda inferior.

judging how should Gundam become a series of Real-Robot this kinda stray from the root I think.

Overally, as a Gundam fan, I'll watch whatever new series available.

The first male lead Flit is pretty cool. He's smart, willing to fight, and isn't a glory hound. The childhood friend serves her purpose well as loli eye-candy and support for Flit. Hopefully she doesn't turn out to be one of the bitchy types. The unknown enemy suits look like some kind of cross between digimon and gundam and are probably piloted by humans. This will probably unnerve Flit later on.

I know it makes sense that Sunrise would want to make a more light-hearted Gundam series after the massive Gundam-deconstruction that was 00, but I felt like this was a fairly by-the-numbers first episode. There wasn't anything terrible about it, but there wasn't anything terribly new or interesting about it either (at least for me).

I'll give it a couple more episodes to get good, but that's all.

To be honest, nothing in this episode really stood out to me. Animation is fine, pretty good CGs, other than that, quite average. Other than that, all I have are gripes with the plot and all...

I love how 14 year olds are allowed to wander through military bases just to get to a bus stop. Also, letting an old man experiment willy-nilly within said military base, possibly heavily damaging the facilities. And why did Flit take his little mega math based prediction of where the aliens are gonna attack to his friggin' teacher??? He just ran past the bloody commander of the army in the bloody morning. Not to mention he's meant to be some kind of genius who should have the common sense to act with some level of intelligence.

Those are the main gripes I had. I am only really looking forward to how they deal with the multi-generation aspect of the show. Other than that, can't say I'm overly impressed.

BTW, doesn't the space colony remind anyone of Leopard from Soaring Cake Girl?

Sigh.... I'll just retype that it's still way to early to be making any serious judgments about this Alternate Universe series. The old school character designs coupled with very intricate cg backgrounds were very pleasing to my eye, although the mech designs and animation are going to take some getting used to. At first they didn't seem to blend into the cg backgrounds as well. The second time through the art design really grew on me.

The beginning of this series is classic Gundam. I didn't think it was a flaw, but a logical place to start an alternate version. I have no idea how this story will continue, but if it's not as nihilistic as Tomino's Gundam it could be an improvement. Flit's fighting spirit is definitely refreshing and reflects the new sentimentality, perhaps even a paradigm shift that has occurred in modern society. Someone else in the now nuked version of this forum commented on how this series might appeal to a new generation of younger people still ignorant to the enormity of the Gundam franchise. I like that aspect and am curious to see where the series heads next. I also hope that the writer and creator of this series, if still in production follows his own vision for this series instead of trying to completely regurgitate Tomino. So far Flit's personality seems to be that of the classic hero archetype. I'm gonna give this series a chance.

Kinda of stuff you don't take too serious. Not bad, not awesome either.

The only thing that I hated was the design of the Flit's classmate, that boy. It was ridiculous!

So far the worst gundam ever... even worse than Wing!
I hope it goes Victory route in the future but i don't really have high hopes for that considering the target age of this show.

Hopefully it can be so bad that it gets hilarious to watch.

Like orion1 said, probably the best way to start an alternate universe. I don't see how you can get anymore than that.

I am not bothered by the art, its pretty clean. Flit is a good, likable character off the bat.

I think next episode will really show the strength of this series, the superior art in battle. The design is right on key for gundam and the UE suits are simply amazing. Even the boring battle in the first episode was well improved by the sheer fluid motion of the battle sequence.

Personally, I feel honored to be watching a brand new Gundam universe. Doesn't happen all the time.

While I'll have to agree the art is somewhat lacking, looks more like a Poke/Mega Man hybrid, not a gundam series.

I will say I thought the story was good, and it's refreshing that Flit isn't another angst riddled cry baby, and actually understands it's up to him to fight. Instead of crying about it for 15 episodes before finally getting the will to fight.

The side characters seem enjoyable, but again the character designs aren't amazing.
And the Gundam is a little too Exia, but Exia is probably my fav Gundam so who am I to complain.
Hopefully they'll pull a Raiser and change it up a bit. It is still in development according to the show.
But I think I can get used to it as long as the story keeps up to par.

I will definitely be watching this, for one it's a Gundam series and that's enough for me.
And, for two it was better than I thought it would be.

4/5 first episode, let's hope this turns into something great!

I don't think I can take this series too seriously especially due to the character design. For example, Flit. He doesn't look like a 17-18-year-old person. Story: It is still too early to determine the direction of it, but I'll guess I'll continue to watch and see how it goes. As for the animation, it looks okay so far.

I'll say, this series might/will have a solid story for the background. This episode was okay, just because how the main character is. He experienced the sight of death at a young age, he's around 12-15 for the looks of it and the school he's going to with the classmates around him, and he's a mechanical genius especially for building his own Gundam? That's a bit unrealistic, but it's possible. The genius part reminds me a lot of Gundam X hero, Garrod Ran. What can this boy do with pure skills and intellect at combat like Garrod? Hm...

The other reason why I say this episode is just "okay" since the pacing is horrible. Everything came to fast (no sex puns intended) with the hero being a genius, being involved with the military, and already piloting a Gundam in the end because he has to and EVERYONE let him do so?? It just doesn't seem surreal at all... :\

Other than the toy-like gundam design and the Digimon-like character design, it was ok.
Having unknown random enemies is a bad idea though. Conflicts between humans is usually more interesting. However, it might be that the government is hiding something deeper so it's too early to call the enemy unknown.

The enemy is unknown but I think having a mysterious villain for the first time makes it different for Gundam.

This opening episode was pretty good. You get a real feel for this Gundam's universe and people's way of life. And it actually had a fair deal of action in it too.

I don't really have any complaints about it, especially when it offered two of the more hilarious scenes in a serious anime in a long time. ("Gotcha Bitch!" on Largan, and then the Gundam SHANK. Both pretty awesome.)

Story wise it was typical Gundam opening. 90% of Gundam stories start with a young pilot getting into a Gundam that was just created to fight invading mobile suits. It was a little original on making the enemy unknown though but if it stays like that and their just un unkown big bad wolf the it will be stupid. A good thing about Gundam universe was that it showed both sides as humans and not simply evil.

The worst part was the digimon-pokemon shitty character desighn. I felt like after the fight someone was call back Gundam into his poke-ball or whatever. What the hell where they thinking? Well if it turns out to be a complete child show with no politics too and just evil unknown enemies then the image will be clear on why the made that desighn.
So me said it's old school but it isn't. That's not old school is just childish. The first Gundam is old school as hell and the character still have a more grown realistic style, so does the first Macross. This is simply childish desighn.

Obviously, I'm a fan of mecha theme series so I gave this a shot.

Uh, the artwork turned me off a bit though. Despite being in the 2011s, I find the art style to be a bit childish in comparisons to Gundam SEED or 00.

The OP song is okay I guess, might skip sometimes though..
Well I guess the atmosphere is somewhat grim so I'll take what I get. The main mobile suit reminds me of the Freedom also...

Wow....no sure what to say. I was turned off by the artwork and "cheesy" animation (the over exagerated reactions with large eyes/hands/etc). Definitely not as good as the last few series in action or graphical department which is odd, but I guess after 00 they needed something more light hearted.

Also not sure about this alien enemy thing...I liked the human enemies better. Although I'm sure later on it will be revealed that they really are human and probably related to the main character somehow *eye roll*
