So i was digging through MAL and i noticed old series used to have 50, 100, 500 episodes. And I want to know if you think we will get an anime as long as Doreaemon or One Piece again. Or maybe an anime with more than 100 episodes (not in seasons)

i think the only hope we have for getting more like those are maybe some shounen stuff from studios like toei or perriot, pretty much all other studios only do things in seasons with 12 or 24 episodes, rarely anything higher.

Hopefully its kind of annoying to just watch 12 episodes break then 12 the next year break than 12 the next year

A don't miss them. The production and pacing are usually not very good. Also, the producers tend to extend them until the last possible coin regardless of the story or plot issues.

Well for example Black Clover has 170 episodes+planned sequel. This is the newest anime with high number of episodes.

But yes it needs something like Naruto that has longer plot not only 12/24 episodes where you have chance to get into plot deeply. Where you have chance to see more years of MC life/world, not only few moments.

If studios start making long running shows the quality of animation will be compromised.

Well having long running shows right now is bad ?

Boruto, is on a level worst then teletabius.

BC had extremly bad animation, it looked like BC had the same budget for 170 ep's as Demon Slayer had for 1 ep.

That's why I think it's better of getting 12-24 ep's shows instead.

So we don't get long running garbage serie thanks to re**** directors and story board writters or like in BC case no budget no time to work on eeach ep's.
So in the end we get a ep's with 10 frame rates in.

And if you want long running series we have a toon of them if you would acually check each season.
As China is releasing a lot of them and in terms of quality and story telling the are far superior to most season shows we get.

I would honestly prefer it if shows weren't 1000+ episodes long like One Piece XD. It's part of the reason why I haven't gotten that far in it. I think 500 episodes is a pretty reasonable length for ongoing shows. Aside from One Piece, we still have Black Clover. I don't know how long it plans to run for. But the author said it could run for as long as One Piece. But I think it all depends on the popularity of the show (which hasn't been good so far), as well what other content Tabata plans on exploring in the series.

It's possible but they'll definitely become rarer and rarer. It's much easier for studios to break up the anime into several shorter seasons instead of animating one super long season.

We have a currently airing anime, Shaman King (2021) which will go for 52 eps, so that counts. There's also Dragon Quest (2020), which I think will air for 52 or more episodes.

And also those kids anime and other long-running shows from years back that doesn't seem like it wants to end.

I would love to get a 100+ episodes anime that's enjoyable. Hell, I would love a 12 episodes anime that's decent. I haven't really been enjoying most of the shows I've watched over the past seasons.
I don't think we are getting one, seems to be that it messes with the quality and pacing each time we get one, which means less popularity :/

I hope not
weekly animes are annoying af cause they end up full of fillers
fortunately the industry changed its model to seasonal animes which is a lot better in terms of quality

best thing you can do is watch animes that are a bit older and already have multiple seasons

Well we had Black Clover and currently there are Boruto and Dragon Quest. So not too shabby. What I like about these longer series that aren't split in seasons is that they tend to have longer arcs. I totally dig stuff like One Piece where arcs are like 50-100 episodes long.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Well One Piece is somehow still airing so I really can't say if we'll get another monstrously long show like that but for your other condition of 100+ episodes we just had Black Clover finish airing with 170 episodes in one season so there you go. That started airing in 2017.
Also the Shaman King is currently airing with apparently 52 planned episodes so they are still making long shows occasionally although yes the trend has moved HEAVILY to the 12-26 episode formula.

this new generation of anime figured that QUALITY > QUANTITY! i mean a lot of good shows are the ones to get a message in a fast, quick & efficient way. so theres no need for dragging out an already dead horse. but in the other hand, youll get hit by a 12 epie cluster fuck of an amzing show to never get a second season. 0R W0RSE! getting it & completely fuck up the entirity of it.

my best bets are on chainsaw man pt1 & my hero academia. we will see till then. :D

Probably - stuff like Pokemon, Digimon, Tomica and other toy commercials...plus some battle shounen, idol stuff and whatever Pretty Cure is...but are those worth it?

Besides Detective Conan the other long franchise I am following now is Motto! Majime ni Fumajime Kaiketsu Zorori 2nd Season, which is a show for little kinds and it's quite good actually (as far as fart jokes and dad gags go...).

Preferences have changed. People just don't have the time or patience to watch 6 years of snail's-paced buildup anymore. Besides, long-term continuous anime is difficult for animators to maintain and just not as rewarding anymore. Seasonal hits like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, My Hero Academia and Attack on Titan have proven to be just as profitable for studios and manga publishers as continuous anime like Naruto and One Piece used to be. Although it's starting to look like MHA has overstayed it's welcome. Long-running anime are on their way to becoming extinct.

Well the age of One Piece, Naruto and Co. is long over. Those shows who ran undisrupted for years and years will no longer be produced. Yes there is still One Piece, Boruto and Pokemon and stuff, but well in terms of quality, yeah there isnt any. Also they wouldnt run as long as they do if it werent for the filler Episodes (or entire Arcs)
There are potential candidates who could run for like hundreds of episodes, just divided into multiple seasons, like MHA, but those long runners need a source material as long, and for those, well they are getting rare, or are never fully adapted. An anime is still the Advertisment for the Manga, and personally i do not know a lot of shows were the complete Manga got adapted, aside from all the super popular heavy hitters, just like Naruto, Fairy Tail, AoT, SDS etc.

They really shouldn't. Animes that aren't based on split seasons tend to have worse quality and are stretched way too much in terms of very small amount of content per episode, so that the source material keeps up with the anime.
Having animes with hundreds of episodes is fine, assuming they release like 24-25 episodes a year, but that's only assuming the anime would run for many seasons.

Wouldn't mind another long running show as long as they can keep the quality of it consistently high. I don't need something like Naruto that sacrifices quality for a majority of the show to put tons of resources into a few important fights.

Currently, Dragon Quest is a full adaptaion so it will probably be 110 + episodes. Boruto is going on. Kids shows like Pokemon and Precure are long as well and then there is the upcoming Bleach sequel which will also probably be long.

There are some modern anime that have gone into multiple seasons that add up to a hundred or more episodes. It's just that with sites like MAL around and the studios operating in seasons as they do, they're much more likely to be spread out across multiple separate entries instead of a single 100+ episode series. That's not entirely a bad thing either. Some lament that they can't rate the periods or arcs of that 300 episode series separately like they would if it were split up. Many also prefer to withhold ratings or reviews until a series is completed. How does that work for something like "One Piece"?

Also notable is that some of those 100+ episode series from the 1990s and early 2000s outpaced their respective manga and in order to meet the broadcast commitments, the producers had to create anime-original episodes. I don't know if this still happens but if so it's probably far less common now than it was then. As I understand it, FMA had some of these anime-original episodes because it was produced while the manga was still being written but FMAB was made after the manga was completed and follows it more closely.

I remember when Naruto Shippuuden was still airing, many fans complained about the cheap animation and worthless filler arcs and wished it was seasonal so that could be avoided.

If half the episodes airing in a year are filler then it may as well be fucking seasonal because no one wants to watch the fillers.

We have a bunch of them rigt now, it’s just that MAL splits them up by season more if they aren’t running continuously and series have moved away from filler so they are split up more than in the past when they used filler If BNHA or AoT came out 15 years ago, it would be one long series with a ton of filler but one entry on MAL. And there’s stuff like Re zero which will likely be >100 episodes when it is done
