He could copy the data but when passed it to another robot, it doesn't mean you have the same robot with the same personality. "There is nothing here that says it couldn't be done" but nothing proves otherwise either. Time had passed so things might have changed but at the very least, years ago, Elizabeth took the copy data but she was still a different person. And I saw no support from others so really doubt that he could make that breakthrough.

>The part about not showing any romantic interactions between them
Because it wasn't Grace. He also said that was only a replica. If they acted intimately with it then I wonder whether he truly loved her or just her appearance. He didn't call that replica Grace even once and just ordered her around like a robot. If the transplant succeeded then things would be different.

>It still makes zero sense to put a robot there to run the island when it wasn't built for it. Instead of, you know, an AI actually built to run the island.

Because they wanted to try something new which was giving a new mission to an AI after Estella did more than what her mission asked for.
People who loved Grace wouldn't bury her but that was done to persuade people who still had doubt about the project.

But yeah, after all that explaining, it is clear that Grace was put there for the drama (I just argue for sake of it xD). If they had more time to explain this, it would have been more awesome. You just make me realise how bad the episodic format is (j/k). Hope that they can make up for it with the remaining episodes.

Not as powerful as episode 4 but execution-wise it was top-notch. I'm really digging the sound design and eye style which has been pretty hype so far. Apart from that, this episode gave me full Fate Stay Night HF and a lot of other Cyberpunk stories out there (Baldr Sky, Kikokugai if you're a bit of a VN enthusiast) vibe. The ending was too abrupt though, the twist was predictable even, they could have at least tried to delay the endcredit or something lol.

THat ending was something else. I couldn't believe everything I just watched. That was one rollercoaster of emotions. It's getting really interesting to see the effect that these missions are having on Diva. I can't wait to see what she becomes by the end of this series.

Things like an A.I. considering it's love for a particular individual (like in Grace's case) make me wonder how the hell they are even programmed. How can personal bias exist in an A.I.? Or are they supposed to "bond" with a single person as part of their subroutine?

Some insert songs used coolly here, and boy, the animation is awesome. The CGI becomes jerky and textureless in fast frame rates, but I have to praise the fights. The cube matrix scene was brilliantly conceptualized, and I wonder when (after how many years) will Matsumoto start losing control over machines. If Vivy's actions speed up upgrades, he might become useless.

This show shows how focussing on a huge vague goal (stop A.I. vs Humans from happening) can lead to heartbreaking losses on the way. Some of these losses are counterproductive to the aim of Vivy and it breaks her up (finally?). The alternating themes of marriage and death is common in high-stakes drama, so a huge part of the last part was predictable. Appreciate the double blood symbology at the end. Chose to save both races, ended up losing two from each. This particular story element smells of Tappei involvement. Irony and sacrifice goes hand in hand.

I can't clearly say whether it's the best episode, but the show overall is really going up. The 'inconsistencies' are acceptable for a 1 cour show, but they need to step up in their game as the endgame approaches.
"All truth is meaningless. In the end, 'meaning' comes from the mind of each individual human. Even when there is a single truth, it can mean different things to different individuals. The truth has no meaning in itself!" - Erika Furudo

For me, what I like about this series is the consequences of changing the past. In a sense similar to Tokyo Revenger and I am in Love with the Villainess.

How the event of Sunrise was 20 minutes faster, or how in this episode the wedding didn't take place. I am a sucker for this kind of genre/trope. In the end, I wish to see the original timeline vs the alternate time as a whole.

Eagerly waiting for the tipping point.

noticed after rewatching.. after Saeki died, and Vivy had blood in her hands. The light of the circle on her neck is turning red.. which is not a good sign.. I remember the rampaging robots on episode 1 had the circular light on their neck color red.

This episode took the show to a whole new level. The animation and story were both amazing, really sad at the end, poor Dr Saeki. He truly seemed in love with Grace and she seemed more than just an AI. She told him "i wouldn't marry just any human, it's only because it's you Tatsuya".

yeah, saying she wouldn't just marry any person humanized Grace imo. If she was just a dumb robot, she would marry anyone who proposed to her. But for some reason, she likes Saeki, and would marry only him.

also it is clear Saeki cares about Grace, because if he only cared about her looks, he already had the K5 ai. Sad that he never got laid with his waifu..

Another great and exciting episode. Love how the show manages to one up itself each week. Doctor taking his own life was sure shocking for Vivy. I wonder how she will come out of this incident, she will probably blame herself. I also wonder if her mission will entail taking human lives herself in the future.

Also, seeing the ending credits of this episode, it seems like things aren't really going smooth production-wise. Hopefully the team at Wit manages to go through this one and without the loss of visual quality we've been getting so far.
Huh? How can you tell that from the credits?

By absurd amount of animation directors, second key animators and in-between animators that this episode has. Huge numbers of those means that key frames were rough/unfinished and there wasn't enough time to finish the episode so they had to throw people at it to rush it before deadline.

Grace seemed more human-like than any other sisters. I wish they could recover the data. But when Saeki got to know that Grace was chosen for this project then why didn't he back up her data right after?

Vivy got quite the shock after seeing Saeki shoot himself, I wonder how this will effect her character development.

It was good to see the Toak guy helping Vivy. I just hope he doesn't appear again with a new plan or else it'll get too repetitive.

I suddenly have this theory that what if Matsumoto turns out to the main villain of this whole thing. What if all those missions that he is making Vivy do is actually not to stop the war between AI and mankind that will take place in 100 years. It'll be interesting to see a battle between Vivy and Matsumoto at the end.

This anime is so simpleton, eh. But it's not necessarily bad.
Effort in production makes a difference even if 90% of the show is spouting ad hoc solutions to unreasonable situations.

There's no way that Wit fitted all that character and plot development into just one single episode. That was amazing and executed just about perfectly.

Keep this up and this show will surely be contender for best anime this season.

It keeps getting better and better and we're only halfway. As long as this doesn't go to shit (I have trust in Tappei's writing) then this will be a contender for anime of the season.

Everything is going to shit plot-wise. Evolution of AI is speeding up, the first set of human casualties that is directly caused by the Singularity. Vivy didn't expect that happening. She's failing her mission, her song didn't in fact bring happiness as shown with Saeki. And the scene with her hands both covered in human and AI blood is great symbolism for something I can't explain properly. I feel like with every mission, Vivy keeps deteriorating and her meeting an unfortunate end is bound to happen. Hope my hunch isn't right.

Diva vs Vivy's missions starting to conflict hard in that intense identity crisis scene, time to really question the missions & Matsumoto.
Nice how things connect to previous missions. How Estella/Eliz Sunrise save spedup Metal Float, which canceled Dr's AI marriage. And copying Grace's data is futile as Estalla's backstory already showed transfers don't work, besides Grace's messed up overwritten missions, from nurse to a multi-ai fortress factory.
Vivy could've saved Grace out, but would take too much time and merged parts might break, so not sure Matsumoto's to blame since timeline's going wack.

Maybe he meant the plot? As in, the way things are progressing are getting 'worse' in-universe, not that the show is bad.
Well, yes that's what I think when I say wtf is this show. But I think it's getting worse as we progress into the story. I understand why people think it's getting better, but to me, what this anime is trying to say is so vague that every week, by adding information, it gets harder for me to enjoy the show.

I'm not going to criticize you on your rating, because you're entitled to giving the show whatever score you want and that's fine by me.

Just wanted to make this clear though - if you think that the show is vague, it's by design. The creators want us to find it hard to side with either humans or AI and sympathize with both parties. They want us to understand how clear the mission is - destroy all AI progress, yet how many challenges it poses to execute this mission given that destroying AI does not guarantee that EVERYONE is going to be happy, which is Diva's true goal. Understand that Diva's does not think in terms of the greater good. She's supposed to make all people happy and it is impossible for her to sacrifice some people to save others. To top it off, as the AIs advance the distinction between AI and people also blurs, and you realize the kind of ethical dilemma she faces.

There is something illogical here: The doctor was going to copy Grace's conscience to the other robot, and then that would be Grace.

Then why couldn't they just do that to run the island? Why did they need Grace and her robot body, when they could just copy her mind and it would be the same thing?

So, I don't think it would work. In the previous episode when they tried to copy the experiences and memories from Estella to her twin Elizabeth, Elizabeth did not "become" Estella, and that experiment was deemed a failure and Elizabeth was discarded. Saeki was desperate and grasping at straws so he probably saw this as a last resort.

That ending... I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole time and that ending really brought home the tragic story behind the metal float for Dr Saeki.
The reveal that grace was at the centre of the metal float as management AI, with a rewritten mission, really reminds me of "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" (about a utopian city, Omelas, where the prosperity relies on the eternal misery and suffering of a single child and about people, when they learn of this horrifying fact, decide either to stay or walk away from Omelas - this 'perfect' city).

The way that all of vivy's changes have failed to stop the evolution of AI really makes me question Matsumoto - there's so much we don't know about yet and if we can really trust them??

I thought I was mortified by his last words, but I think I'm more traumatized(?) by that final gunshot, and her seeing two colours of "blood" on her hands. She's a killed AI who is here to save the world, but in the end she's also an enemy to both...for the greater good. Whatever that greater good is. Still OOF. okay.

Grace's/Diva's song is beautiful. Saving Grace you could say.

I find it interesting that as an AI - she could distinguish Grace's soul being gone. (I guess it's to suggest no two AIs are the same).

Tatsuya literally chose death over living a life without his robot waifu. Not to mention that in a timeline where AI technology is at its peak, the poor doctor can't even make a damn backup of his AI wife's memories. Sucks to be him.

Another average episode that becomes "good" because of animation; action and insert songs. Writing still leaves a lot to be desired. Last shot with Vivy's hands being covered in both human and AI blood was quite good tho.
