What a wholesome episode. Never woulda imagined girl who leads the Yuki fan club would get such a good resolution. That's good shit. Additionally it's so wonderful to see Yuki acting as a support for Machi the same way Toru did for him.

Is it weird that I'm happy Machi's brother (Takei? Was it) got some closure by eavesdropping? He probably didn't have anything against her, but good to know the siblings are on "amiable" terms. His relieved smile was heart melting.

I don't remember if I reached this point in the manga, but BOI. YUKI ALMOST SNATCHED MY HEART WITH THAT SUBTLE CHALK MOVE. Heavy breathing. That was so nice ;-; Never though I'd see him as a silent heartthrob (...or silent heart) type. I hope we see more of this Machi x Yuki dynamic.

Kyo, the cat landing from high places.

I'm so happy they did a reboot of this anime. This season especially, is paced just right. Seiyuus doing their magic

I knew there was a reason I loved Yuki so much in the OG series. Not that there weren't good reasons within the 2001 series! But damn... He's such a great character and wonderful person within the larger story.

I have a real soft spot for super kind, gentlemanly characters, and I think it all started with Yuki. When he offers to help Machi ruin the perfection of the snow by making footprints together, and when he subtly breaks the chalk to comfort her... Man... He's just so sweet

This episode really deepened the bond between yuki and machi ❤️❤️❤️

Bad parenting is as always a string suit in this anime almost everybody parent is same within the sohmas or not... Dude truely pathetic a couple of scum trying to mould their daughter to puppet and leaving her broken into pieces
Izusu mystery still continues 🤠🤠 Does Akito know that Izusu know that kuerno' s curse is broken????

Yuki using his charming powers on those other than Tohru. Just seeing Yuki break the chalk for Machi was we best small detail that I can remember from this season. And the way he is so accepting to Minagawa's feelings. What an amazing episode.

Are there any still-living parents in this show who aren't complete and utter trash? Seriously, I swear basically all of our main characters have abusive parents, and while it's certainly impactful every time I'm absolutely sick and tired of it at this point. It's just the same emotional well over and over again, for the same reasons over and over again. In this instance, some of the dialogue aimed at Machi by her mother was so overblown that I couldn't take it seriously at all: "have a perfect personality and perfect grades" is so comically over the top that it lost any emotional impact it could have had for me.

This obsession with abusive parents is like Stephen King's obsession with bully characters: doesn't the author have any other ideas for giving characters tragic backstories than giving them crappy parents?

That being said, this is some much-needed development for Machi and really makes it obvious what the two main ships are going to end up being; I'm very happy with both of them, as well.

Still living excellent to at least normal / decent parents:

1. Kazuma

2. Satsuki (Hiro's Mom)

3. Hanajima's Parents + Grandmother

4. Ritsu's Mom

5. Kagura's Mom

6. Kisa's Mom

7. Tohru's Grandpa

8. Mayuko's Parents (Homeroom Teacher) - Her mom is shown bugging her to get married, but that is a fairly normal thing - not abusive or traumatic.

9. Motoko's Mom - Her mom tells her to be quiet when she was going off on one of her Yuki monologues in S2,E1, but that was a mostly comical moment. Motoko seems to have had a pretty normal upbringing.

10. Shigure's Parents - We don't really know much about them, but that probably means they were fairly normal parents.

11. Hatsuharu's Parents - This one is a bit debatable. They took part in "teasing" Haru for being the cow and such, and we know that Haru's mom priorities her looks over coming to pick up her son (S2, E4 - I believe, when Haru trashes the classroom). But, on the other hand, in an interview Takaya-sensei stated that they were decent parents.

12. Kyo's Mother - Some people may disagree with this one, but I think Kyo's mother loved him a lot and had good intentions - she just went about showing it all wrong. This is where the list ends, because after this you start slipping into the actually bad parents of the series or into more murkier grey areas. There is Kyoko as well, but I didn't include her because she has already passed.

There are just as many wonderful to just plain normal parents in this series as there are bad to awful ones. I think the bad / awful ones just tend to stand out more, because the excellent to normal ones aren't highlighted as much, with the exception of Kyoko, Kazuma, and Satsuki and Saki's Mom to some extent. They are mostly for minor or background characters, but they are there.

One of Furuba's main theme is how much impact and influence parents have on the children they raise. A lot of issues that people have tend to stem from their parents and upbringing, and this series explores that, so it is only natural that there would be a lot of shitty parents too.

Loved the way Yuki subtly broke the chalk and calmed Machi down. It was the nicest gesture ever.
Minegawa's confession kinda made me sad. Yes she did cause a lot of trouble but the confession was a fitting way to say goodbye to her. Also who knew chibi chan was equally capable of such a good confession.
I just realized that scenes with Yuki and Tohru have lessened down. Makes sense but kinda miss their conversation. And Kyo's really in love huh! XD

I really enjoyed this episode. Very beginnings/endings-centric. Graduating seniors, confessions of feelings, welcoming a new Soma into the family. Seems like Rin has cut her hair, maybe (if that last scene and the way her hair is styled in the ED are any indication). It's nice to see Yuki and Machi opening up to each other, too.

I loved that chalk moment too! It was a nice way to show how in-tune with her feelings he is. (Boy didn't even stutter in his speech, either.)

And I thought that scene with Yuki and Minegawa was very nicely done. It was a great way to say goodbye to her character, but to also dignify her very real feelings for Yuki.

Hiro's mom, Kazuma, Ritsu's mom, Kagura's mom, Kisa's mom, Saki's parents and grandparents, Tohru's grandfather, and a few other parents like Mayuko's and Motoko's kinda prove this wrong. They are all alive and are all good parents (though some of them struggle a bit).

For dead parents we have:

Kyoko - A good parent.

Katsuya - ??? (As of this point in the anime).

Kyo's Mom - A parent with good intentions who did love her child, but who ultimately caused him pain and trauma.

Hatori's Parents - This is never touched on in-series, and never will be, but is fanbook only info. They were doctors and both passed away from illness (his mother in elementary school and his father in high school). They were both strict parents and his homelife wasn't a warm one.

The alive or dead status of a parent doesn't really matter or factor into whether they were a good parent or not. There are plenty of parents that are still alive in Furuba who are good parents.

It's filler in that the stuff with Mhachi and the highschool students has nothing to do with the story about the Soumas.

The Student Council is directly connected to Yuki, one of the main characters in Fruits Basket. The character interactions and relationships *are* the plot of Furuba. It's a character study series and heavily character driven.

It's nice to get a Yuki centric episode, especially with the first half not involving the Somas at all. I don't think I've ever popped off for a guy breaking chalk before.

The last scene reminded me just how many characters there are... I completely forgot about Kagura for example. I hope the show finds a way to do them all justice.

Damn I cried three at three different times during this episode. That was a roller-coaster of emotions.

Yuki did it perfectly I suddenly just screamed his name during the whole segment in Machi's apartment. When he called her to walk over the snow made me feel so happy I just cried. Then he broke the chalk to make it imperfect, showing that he will be at her side. Couldn't stop smiling.

Minagawa's confession was so beautiful and Nao's almost confession was just adorable.

What happened in the end of the episode? That was Akito, right? Damn it doesn't sound any good.

Another amazing episode, like always.

Machi & Yuki got the spotlight this week and it was bootiful! They have such a tentative but tender bond with each other and I just love the way Yuki shows that to her through the smallest actions, like breaking the chalk. I wonder if he'll ever realise that he's doing for her just what Tohru did for him?

Yuki breaking the chalk so the box would not be perfect made me smile. It was such a simple gesture that meant nothing to anyone except Machi. I love how Yuki supports her and shows he cares, without making a scene or drawing attention to her.

machi focus on the first half, i loved that. traumatised by so now hates "perfection" she has the urge to always break that perfection, she gets anxious by that perfection, like the one where there was a box of chalk in the meeting, she got anxious and worried that she'll flip out again but yuki SMOOTHLY broke it. it was a small move but it eased her up. almost made me cry for some reason lmao, it just felt like i was in her situation and i wanted that, i wanted someone to do something like that for me, something so small and subtle but makes a big impact

senior's graduation for the other half, i didnt really care about the girl who liked yuki's confession lmfao, only saw her as a weird stalker (who i know is used for comedy but it didnt land with me so i wasn't rly fond with it), same with the 1st grade studen council guy, he liked the girl because ...? she was pretty? lmao

Another great episode.

I really like Yuki x Machi's progression, and Machi's family is fucked up like the Somas. Damn, it was really awesome when Yuki broke that chalk for Machi's sake. I really wanna see more of these two.

Minagawa was really annoying when we first saw her, but she's not so unlikable now. And that was a pretty good moment, and I was not expecting Nao to have those feelings for Minagawa. At least Minagawa understood that Yuki would not see her as a potential partner and thus didn't even try to ask him out, but rather only expressed her feelings.

Yep, the episode had some more noticeable Machi reactions, but I think that scene was really the most meaningful of them all, cuz it showed, he was there to support her when she needed it, that it wasn't all talk.

Liked how they handled the graduation of the third year's.
Months are coming and going fast though, like just a few episodes ago it was new year's eve.

Is this due to them skipping or arranging stuff, or that manga just had this kind of pace to begin with?
Probably the later.

This season is obviously gonna be short. They are upping the pace.

Nice that they are tryna fit in people like Motoko, Nao and Mit-chan, but I feel like they coulda just been CUT!!!!!! note: sorry to all those who like these characters.

In all fairness, Mit-chan was always super funny in the manga with her constant suicide threats lol (nobody come for me, I know it's dark but it was used well to comedic effect, and I like dark humour).

Hate that Machi had to go through that but I'm glad we got another episode with my sweet girl. I need more Machi-centric episodes.

I have respect for the president of the Yuki fan club for being mature. Yes, she was petty in the beginning but she became more mature as time went by.

I had no idea that Sakuragi had a crush on her though, that kind of made me wonder... why? LOL

Why the first half of the episode had nothing to do with the previous one? Why every character has the same backstory of bad parents?? Why the second half of the episode was focused on making drama of two characters that are mostly comedic relief??? This episode alone has everything I don't like of Fruits Basket. I kinda liked the ending of S2 and I was expecting a great start but so far the first 3 episodes have been so boring...

Ngl, I fangirled when he made his promise to Machi to walk in the snow together.
All I want is for Yuki to be happy by the end of this anime. Really hoping that he isn't forced to stay with Akito after his graduation.

I have a hunch that the only way to break the curse is to sleep with Akito. I can't remember if it was ep 2 or 3, but when Shigure ripped Akito's tie off...! Wow! I found it kind of hot, even though Akito is so unstable. Shigure's such a romance writer!

I've been watching some pretty mid anime for the past few months, so getting back into Fruits Basket is such a breath of fresh air.

Who tf thinks that tucking a kid into bed at night is an attempted murder? When Machi's parents accused her, I could only snort in disbelief. Their paranoia literally makes no sense.

At least make the scenario seem a bit more believable. A person can easily do something dangerous around a baby without realizing it. Like accidentally leaving some candy out that the kid chokes on, or forgetting to strap the little brother onto a diaper-changing table, allowing him to roll off and hurt himself.

Toudo, Kimi really is an interesting character to watch. Her anime-ish or her tone of how to talk is cutesy with her sadistic and frank personality.

Machi!! A visit to Machi's house = still messy lmao
An idiot and an airhead coming in = lucky perv scene lmao XD
While Machi tried to kick them out, her blushing is phenomenal! I like it! (Edit: I love it!)

We finally get to see Machi's background story and the real actions she took to care for her little brother but that effort was wasted because of her terrible parents. Ugh >_< I'm glad she's now okay because of Yuki's effort! Let us ship these two! Her half-big bro on the other hand is still doing nasty things, they should have kissed at that scene! That nasty ringtone of his! >.<

Kimi tried to tease her later but Yuki helped her again! Yay!

I didn't think this would happen but Motoko Minagawa finally confessed her real feelings to Yuki! This is unexpected and surreal! OwO
Nao-chan didn't confess his real feelings though to Motoko but he gave a wonderful speech to her which is nice.
What's nicer? Kagura at the end! I'm glad to see her well...

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines

Yuki & Machi made me cry so hard. She’s so broken, Yuki might help heal her but at the end of the day he can’t fix her, she needs to overcome her issues. It’s so sad, when she was pacing around in the snow, Yuki figuring it out, her not wanting to clarify things or stand up for herself, Yuki breaking the chalk for her, and the last scene when she said it was the first time she had wanted yuki the snow, to come & stay, I lost it I was BAWLING throughout their scenes. Hit so close to home. They are really lucky to have each other♡

Kakeru & Yuki’s friendship always makes me smile. L O L @ him saying no guy can get an erection in her messy room lollll
