Holy fucking shit. I was left speechless as the credits was rolling. Amazing episode. Tsurumi is such an amazing character and that explains why Tsurumi knows a bit about Kiroranke.

That lead up to the ED always gives me chills, I love it when animes does it. I am wondering about their age though, Kiroranke is definitely the youngest out of them 3.

Sugimoto group is close, oh yeah it's all coming together. I am looking forward to the next episode.

Quite a twist revealing that Tsurumi actually taught Wilk and Co. Japanese and possibly killed his wife and child. That changes everything regarding his character. Really good episode overall.

That was a shocking twist at the end!! What a small world!

And a question: So Wilk, Kiroranke and Sofia were approximately of similar age as I see from the reminiscing scenes. But. How come that the present Kiroranke is still a sexy guy, while Sofia is an old hag? Or did I miss out on something?

In the flashback Kiroranke was like 15 which is why Sofia called him kid. Sofia was most likely in her 30s at the time. Why Kiroranke looked like a full grown man at 15, I don’t know XD.

Kiroranke was 15 when he and Wilk assassinated the Emperor of Russia.
Tsurumi is confirmed to be the same age as Kiroranke, he's currently in his early 40s and was somewhere in his late 20s(?) in this flashback, so Wilk and Sofia were probably around the same age as them.
Sofia simply didn't age well lmao

Didn't see it coming at all, but not at all surprised either. It kind of gives some depth as why Tsurumi always seems to talk about Asirpa's father as if he personally knew him.

The most jaw-dropping scene this Fall.

While enjoying Wilk and Sofia's screentime with Kiroranke, the fact that Tsurumi is their Nihongo teacher was very unexpected. His role-playing was perfect. Not even Kiroranke, Wilk and Sofia noticed it. They only knew him as Japan's spy, not Tsurumi.

Best episode this season. Wilk's screentime is so precious.

They probably gonna make the Pet Monster arc (chapters 171-176) an OVA.

The flashback was moderately interesting, but it felt like it was running too long by the end. However, what a twist reveal at the end there! It certainly explains how Tsurumi had such a solid grasp of Kiroranke's intentions and movements, but even so what a reveal.

Whaaaa?! So many shocks this episode. My heart dropped into my feet when Sofia realised who she had really shot... I don't think I'd ever be able to go over doing that, even if it was an accident.

And then that twist at the end! Tsurumi seemed like he was always pretty cold, but after burning down the house and leaving behind his life it seems like he completely cut off any kind of compassion and or humanity he had left, making him the psycho we know!

This show is underrated and I feel more should watch it.

Through the story telling, I could tell the wife and baby was going to have a bad end, and it was sadly done by a friend. Tsurumi told his wife to not comeback until he comes for her. I have a few questions concerning that, was he going to take her to Japan afterwards or ditch her in Russia for her sake?

This comes up later in the manga and it is not really explained but translator's interpretation is:

It is a minor detail but knowing GK, even smallest details can become a significant plot point.

OMFG I just realised something... Tsurumi told Tsukishima he could get him out of prison as a Russian translator for his platoon ( or whatever) as they didn’t have anyone who could speak Russian. Well now we know that TSURUMI himself can speak Russian... makes his manipulation of Tsukishima even more twisted

Ah that clarifies it. I guess I just misremembered. I didn’t know how much time had passed from the assassination to the recent flashback. But then again, age in anime is just weird lol. You’ll have 15 year olds looking like they’re 30 and 30 year olds looking like they’re 5 XD.

Tsurumi's motivations are difficult to guess. That's not hard to expect from a man that can even alter his voice for years. Yet those moments before Tsurumi lowered his mask were truly touching, perhaps allowing a glance into him.

The Far East revolutionaries better hope that Tsurumi does not hold a grudge.

The way all of these different characters are interconnected somehow is one aspect of this show that continuously amazes me. The latest example: this plot twist that I didn't see coming and wouldn't have guessed in a million years. This show is so consistently great and it's in large part because of its goated cast of characters, with Tsurumi being among the best in the series. I really love how we saw his past, his association with Kiroranke and Wilk, and overall a whole new side of him in this episode.

It was more or less explained in the recent manga chapters what he exactly did with the fingers. But yes, what he did was prove he honestly cared about Fina and the baby.

Kiroranke was 25.
1866 -- his birthday.
1881 -- assassination.
1891 (10 years later) -- flashback.

Also, Sofia has been in prison. No wonder she aged that much.

i dont get it. i can't take all the information they are dumping to us. In what period was the backstory happening? Right after they killed the emperor? I thought that's when Wilk's face was ruined. Who exactly is Tsurumi before? A spy in russia? I may have missed something important here or i have forgotten something from before that made this episode so confusing.

I did not expect that twist at all, so much was going on and my remorse for Fina and the baby was still present, but this was still a fantastic episode. So Hasegawa was Tsurumi all a long, those lifeless eyes he left at the end was the start of his journey of madness , poor guy, he just wanted a family, this shows the reaches of the horrors of war even onto people who are just trying to live a normal life : (

I can't imagine how Sofia felt after seeing the bodies of Fina and the baby, as shown, it really took a toll on her. I'm definitely excited to see her more soon, but sadly Wilk can't be part of the squad no more.
Such an excellent backstory.
