This episode and the one prior before this showed us more of Tohru's mother Kyoko. She is an amazing, lovable woman. She showed us that sometimes all it takes to save someone, to help them, is to show them that you care, without reciprocation, or expecting anything in return. Just a simple kind gesture could make all the difference.

I find it beautiful how those qualities of love and care were passed down to her daughter Tohru. A good episode I must say :o I enjoyed it, found it wholesome.

an amazing episode!!! Uo's backstory was really interesting and she's now one of my fav characters... her growth is so admirable..and we could understand her deep attachment to tohru and their genuine friendship, its pretty cute how they're really opposite yet ended up being bestfriends,,. the episode was amazing and i love how're knowing more ab kyoko,, episode by episode we're getting to know what kind of person she was and understand the impact she had on tohru and her friends.
the bit when she was carrying uo :(((( man what she said really hit me like i can'ttt fruits basket is literally so good,, its amazing how the author is not ignoring tohru's friends as ''side character'' but giving them an actual personality and making us all get to acknowledge and love them,, i'll be lonely when it finishes airing for sure

Nah, that's not true. Both are played for laughs. Especially if you count the googly eyed delinquent girl towards the end. You could even say there's quite a few boy/girl moments in this series used as jokes.

Well, 90% of LGBT characters in this franchise are men. I do not want to talk about author's intentions, but overall, the author seems to be extremely straight.

If that's your demand, then you might be missing the point entirely

Honestly, at some point I also began to think that, out of context, it would be extremely suspiciously similar to shoujo yuri. However, as expected from an ordinary western guy.

That's fair to say. Granted, I think there's probably more prominent males than females in Fruits Basket to begin with. By this point, at least.

I do not want to talk about author's intentions, but overall, the author seems to be extremely straight.

In general, yes. But among one of the couples there will be a female character with the line "I am still not sure if he is a guy ... but I don’t care". But besides this, the author just has a fetish for het couples with an age difference.

This show just gets better and better. Probably my AOTS. The trio of yankees are absolutely hilarious and Uo chans back story was fantastic and got me pretty emotional.
I wasn't sure it was necessary to have this reboot when it was announced but they are absolutely nailing it.

This backstory is actually very true to some people, I love how realistic Uo-chan's background as a delinquent and how can people change from the right people. the three delinquent as well was a visualization of the difference Uotani is before and now and I think that's the best possible way to represent it.

These 2 episodes are amazing in its own right, really showcasing how much Tohru is precious to Uotani and also with Tohru's mum really treated her like family, but also her own life's neglect of a family, despite her troubled history.

Even with Tohru's glance of innocence, that's an indication of Uotani wanting to change for the better. And Kyoko's reasoning of change (in part to having Tohru) applies to everyone of us, think of it as a life lesson when life beats us down. No wonder Uotani Arisa has Kyoko as an admirer.

The Three Yankees, as much as they're comic relief, is a living testament to how much Arisa has not just got her past turned into a new leaf, but realizing that others have helped her change her mindset about human relationships in general.

Great backstory and finally glad to see this animated. Arisa, you have a close friendship and you're never alone.

This series is the right level of melodrama, its honestly the comedy thats the weak point but every now and again the series finds a way to butter me up like this one did, got pretty misty eyed when Uo brought up how she would never see that apartment lit up ever again.

This series really does a phenomenal job when it comes to working around the melancholy of nostalgia and loss.

That was an all-timer of an episode. I'm glad they stretched Uo-chan's story across two episodes.

I realize this show will continue to focus on Tooru and the Soumas, but godDAMN could I watch the HELL out of a show centered on Uotani Arisa.

This is my first time commenting on fruits basket forums couz this ep really worth mentioning

So they spend 2 eps for Uotani's backstory i think its worth it on how good it was. I almost cried too when she remembered the time she spend with Kyoko san after she died. Im so impress on how deep and emotional her backstory.

Hoping for Hanajima backstory if there's one.

After watching this episode, the death of Kyoko-san, Tohru's mother, gives me much more sadness. I felt like crying.
She was a great mother and person. His words leave me a great message. Thanks to her and Tohru, Uo-chan was able to change his way of life.
This story was sad, but also beautiful. If only Kyoko-san hadn't died. But hey, it's the life process.

Ps: The shorts at the end of the episode seem very funny to me, LOL.

Originally I did tear up at Momiji’s, but I’ve read the manga and watched the ‘01 anime so much since then. I guess that’s why. But Uo’s story is one that I don’t remember ever crying for, I mean I definitely thought it was sad in the manga, but it never had me tearing up, but this time it totally got me. So I’m really excited to see what this new anime team will do with the rest of the manga that didn’t get animated the first time.

Also, looks like Uo's "rivals" has turn into her "fangirls" LUL

___ ___ ___

And yea... Delinquency and Gangs are still a big asshat in the world, you can't really get rid of them unless you also get rid of any upper Mobs/ Gangs, Yakuza and the Crime Syndicate. Which is never, cause at least 30% of them are deep rooted into the world's Politics and control from the shadows.

They're basically why kids tries to be like them... cause they think "If they can do crime and shit and control the world, so can we"...

Such a beautiful episode. I didn't expect the previous episode to have such a good follow up. Arisa's development is impressive considering she patched up with her father as well. And Tohru and her mom legit wholesome.
And the scene was after the ending song was very funny. The head of the three girls falling for Arisa as her ane-san made me laugh earlier too.

Beautiful episode overall. I really loved Uo-chan's backstory and the way it was developed throughout these last two episodes. Absolutely fantastic.

Now, if Hana-chan's backstory is as engaging as this one was, then I can't wait to watch those episodes focused on her.

It was really nice to see Uo-chan's complete change of character. She came into form with a real personality with the help of these last two backstory episodes. It was rather touching to see how drastically Kyouko impacted Uo-chan's life to the point where she truly wanted to make a positive change in her life for her own sake as well as realizing the negative connotation Tohru received by just being around her.
It was heartwarming to see it all come full circle as Uo-chan can now be a positive influence on the delinquents of the current generation.
Those delinquents were pretty funny too! I had a good laugh almost every time they were on screen.

Colour and composition was absolutely stunning this episode in particular, standing out in a show that has already proven to take great care in the atmosphere it portrays

I think I'm an outlier here in that no tears were produced this episode, but the backstory with Hatori did. There've been some feels, but I think that was the only episode that produced real waterworks.

These last two episodes were really nice nonetheless. I always liked Uo, but she's come into focus as one of the best characters in the series. The gang-related drama was a bit heavy, but I really like her.

Going into this, I had no idea how deep the themes of reminiscence, mourning, and loss would carry the whole show. With how goofy it is 85% of the time, that sense of loss is what really keeps it going. Dealing with death is the hardest thing in the world, so it makes me happy the show paints how much our loved ones stick with us long after they're gone -- for better or worse.

Nothing like spending the whole episode trying not to cry, this backstory arc was incredible.

Why not cry though?
It was beautiful, I had tears most of the episode, there is no problem with that, really loved this backstory... it was really moving to see her warming up to Tohru and her mother, certainly gives alot more weight to Tohru's mom death.

Also Tohru has to be elevated to an national treasure's status, really, when you first start to watch the series, you really dont think muich about her, but the strenght of the anime is that even with a slow pacing, it keeps going and going, slowly building and developing the characters with small details that eventually pay off big, with this mini-arc being one of them, also she has some really good friends, it is so cute to see the 3 of them together (her mother would be happy).
Loved it.

As expected, this one was a tearjerker. I didn't expect Arisa to have such a heart-wrenching backstory. Her relationship with Kyouko and Tohru was so beautiful too. I think Arisa viewed Kyouko as her mother, instead of the mother who left her.

I knew that Kyouko was going to die, but knowing didn't help at all. It still felt so depressing, that scene where Arisa was looking at the apartment but the lights were no longer on. Kyouko is just so great. She's strong and wise and kind and caring. Though it was short, it was a blessing that Arisa met her and Tohru.

I'm glad Arisa got her life together and is continuing to grow. Now I really see why Tohru is so important for her, and why Kyouko too is more than just a friend's mom.

Kudos too to that Akimoto-senpai. I thought she wouldn't be that important, but the shots of her face made me curious. In the end, I wished they could've met again. But Akimoto-senpai did the right thing.

This episode has solidified Fruits Baskets' position as one of my favourite anime. I love it so much at this point.
