Damn, those poor cells having to endure that walking time bomb of a poor excuse for a body. I wonder in what scenario would cause all those types of damages to the body. Thinking about it, here's my take:

1) Dude is doing some extracurricular activity during the summer time.
2) Gets inflicted with a wound due to an accident.
3) The wound gets infected with a host of bacteria (maybe the guy tripped and fell on dog poop).
4) Due to bacterial infection, a fever spikes followed by dehydration and the dude faints.
5) A bystander who happens to be walking by sees this unconcious fellow lying on the ground calls for an ambulance and the EMT's administers IV rehydration when they arrive.
6) Along the way to the hospital, the ambulance hits a pot hole and a defibrillator falls off the shelf and smashes into the dude head creating a gaping gash which results in a significant loss of blood.
7) Guy is hanging on a thread for dear life now. Luckily, the ambulance makes it in time to the hospital, he gets rushed to ER and is immediately administered a blood transfusion.

A series of unfortunate event all happening within hours in real-time.

Aaaahhhhh~ the end to a very good series C:

I love how unique this anime was-- it isn't the first time anyone's done a cell and body type of concept (Ozzy and Drix, for example), but you can tell the author put a lot of thought designing characters and their personalities to fit their duties and sufficient research into this to where an avg viewer who isn't well versed in biology could understand it.

As a bio major, I am thoroughly impressed <3

For anyone complaining about how Sek (RBC) doesn't really do much other than run away-- you have to understand that she literally can't go outside of her job function. Her main job is to transport gas and nutrients. I would say that she has significant changes by the end (: albeit not a LOT, but she IS slightly more competent and I like her "nerves of steel," as kouhai-chan put it.

The last 2 episodes ended this series with a BANG! and I loved it! Brought this series up a point for me. I knew those different accented RBC's had to be from a blood transfusion lol. They couldn't just randomly appear out of nowhere :P

I wish there were more romantic progress between SekXHak, but it's not really a romance anime so is kayssssss. We know we all ship em regardless lmao xD
The jokes were to my taste as well :} I've seen some reviewers complain how they don't delve into diff personalities for these cells to set them apart from the rest of their kind (ex: macrophages are all sweet and beautiful badass assassins) but I personally don't mind that a group of cells have the same personalities bc they SHOULD be similar imo. They all do the same work. Plus, there's a main "leader" to the group, which is good enough for me haha.

9/10 :D

Damn shit got even more real throughout the first half of this episode. Our Red Blood Cell has developed a very stoic and determined core underneath her usual bubbly self. This show is fantastic in its execution of comedy, action, or seriousness as required, with the final arc displaying its dramatic potential. Interested in seeing Cells at Work Black get an adaption as well.

The characters were fun, the scenarios ranged from heartwarming to amusing to captivating despite some repetition across a number of episodes, and the setting and metaphors were meticulous and well integrated into said characters and situations. Red Blood Cell and White Blood Cell had decent chemistry, sufficient enough that they could be considered a pair but not so much that it becomes overbearing on the overall show and its intentions.

Good and memorable show overall.

Wow this body has gone through its fair share of damage...cancer cells, heat stroke, and even massive blood loss because the person hit their head or something. Jeez...that person should take care of their body a bit more.

They were so close to death and the remaining red blood cells finally unwillingly gave up on performing their duties even after all they've done to make up for the other's losses. It was a miracle that the host managed to get a blood transfusion at the very last second with millions of new faces appearing out of nowhere to save the day. A disaster's been averted but the memory of the millions of lost red blood cells will definitely live in with the others.

It was an enjoyable anime. I learned a lot and despite it being a bit repetitive at times, I still had a lot of fun!

I enjoyed the first few episodes but after that it became a stale and repetitive monster of the week imo. They had 13 episodes to give us more development of other characters like Macrophage. The serious tone of the final eps felt out of place and in the end, nothing really happened between Red Blood Cell and White. The concept sounded great but I found it dissapointing. 5/10

Those two last episode would certainly make a great movie. Also like how the red cells from blood transfusion had a lot different accent :D

Sadly, the rest of the series was mostly boring, highly repetetive, enemy of the week show and compared to french series Once Upon a Time... Life this was very disappointing. They had basically only one response to everything - to fight, instead of showing us things around. There was certainly some potential with all those characters but it remained mostly untapped in the end.

What a great anime!

So, the MAIN complaint is that this was repetitive...well, thatโ€™s not too surprising seeing as the main objective of the anime was to show what and how these cells work.

And yeah, I understand they couldโ€™ve mixed it up just a bit more, but overall, I think it was still VERY well done.

They couldโ€™ve easily gone down some ridiculous routes where WBC is the protagonist and he gets a Harem of all the other cells and stupid shit like that!

Thankfully, that was NOT the case.

As for RBC, I think if there is a season 2, Iโ€™d love to see her mature more and maybe have a nice character arc where she is a dependable cell and not so cliche, still, I understand that they DID want to keep this somewhat lighthearted (considering that you have a good amount of violence on the show) so I get why they did her character in this particular manner.

As for the story, I think it did a GREAT job properly telling us what all these cells do and how they react to certain conditions against antigens and whatnot.

Like, how often can an anime educate you (with ACURATE information) and also be entertaining?

I would definitely recommend this anime and I hope we get a season 2.

I'm giving it 9/10 for all the positive vibes and for a well-balanced cast, esp. after that ending song. Everyone got a chance to shine, too. Wonder what happened to MC Blood Cell's senpai though, tragic if she died.

Started out good, but got really repetitive after a few episodes. It does have a few funny moments sprinkled throughout (especially RBC's screams lmao) and it gets credit for having an original idea. I don't think I've seen an anime quite like this before.

Really enjoyed the last two episodes, sad ending would've been better though :>
They did do a great job with the last two episodes though, lots of the humor of the show was making epic battles out of tiny incidences, so to suddenly have a seriously major event happen definitely had the effect they were going for.

Sadly though, show was 6/10 for me

A lot of cells died. You can die any second in this world without warning. I thought the heatstroke episode was the most intense one. This one ups the pressure a lot. It's a tragedy.

The poor platelets trying to repair the body T_T

It's hard to be angry at those idiots in the headquarters for increasing the blood pressure resulting in the death of a lot of Red Blood Cells because that's probably what happens to the body in an accident like this. They're just doing their job after all but damn... a lot of lives were lost today.

There's really only so much a body can do to save itself. In times of tragedy like this, you really need to rely on external help. You could say it's like a miracle to these cells when something happens out of the blue during a dire situation.

This is such a great anime. I can't wait for the next season. 9/10

The human body is amazingly resilient 24/7. Whoever had that body certainly had a wild ride from start to finish... hemorrhagic shock of all things. As a current nurse, it just melts my heart seeing the super important functions of the cells personified or animated.

I really enjoyed it, tbh. Nice break from the grim realities outside.

Nothing was really confirmed regarding the cause of the injury, but I'll stick with my assumption that the explosion last episode was a bullet entry wound

Anyways, they manged to elevate the tension a little for the finale and ended it with a valid method of returning things to some semblance of normality. Pretty decent overall

So they lost a lot of red blood cells, but reinforcements came in the form of a blood transfusion. "Luckily" all of our dear friends survived the almost apocalypse, so all ends well.

A quite unique anime, describing the cells of a body as people is an interesting idea. And I actually learned a lot about the different cells and what they do. Though the characters were a bit forgettable. 7/10

What a terrific episode was last two! It was good to see RBC having a rookie under her. RBC tried her best but the best thing happened when it was a danger. RBC never stopped and kept going. And finally everything is alright. Thanks to the Blood donation, they are safe now.

It was quite an adventure. Didn't thought this anime would turn like this. It was informative and also enough thrilled. Had a lot action then boring science book explanation. Enjoyed it though. :D

There are two things I greatly enjoy about Cells at Work.

I love seeing cells introduced early on, only to have their functions and origins elaborated in a later episode. It shows the human body as an interconnected network, and all the cells work together to keep the body functioning. In terms of the anime's narrative, it establishes characters and their relationships to create this tight-knit community, then slowly develops them one by one.

I also love how spoilers work here, where if you're familiar the medical phenomenon featured in episode, you can deduce the order of plot points. In that sense, it reaffirms knowledge of how a particular disease or injury works, but it also helps to establish drama for the characters. It's hilarious to see the steps of allergies, relating to what the anime's human is experiencing and comparing it to your own. It's also harrowing to know the steps of cancer or, in this episode's case, hemorrhagic shock, and to see the characters experience that in real time.

Cells at Work has a lot of issues of reused animation and cut corners, and the show absolutely takes artistic liberties in its metaphoric representation of bodily functions, but I love how information is presented in accessible and engaging ways. It's charming and cute, takes itself seriously when it needs to, but the show never strays too far away from its upbeat and optimistic outlook. I really appreciate that.
