Ayano has to be one of the most unlikable main characters ever. I don't give a shit that she turned a corner and she loves badminton now. It's too late for that. She's an arrogant, classless piece of shit. I don't care at all about her issues. That doesn't justify treating people like garbage. And it was all for nothing anyway. She just forgave her mother. It's bad on so many levels. |

Ahh. First off, I'm really glad that Nagisa won. I was really rooting for her! I'm not super sure how to feel about Hanebado. I really thought the drama was kinda eh and a bit over the top, but at the same time, I actually do like how it allowed Ayano to grow in such a specific way. I'm not really sure how else one might have achieved the same thing with the same effectiveness. Like, I specifically do like the trial of overcoming one's issue with abandonment, but someone abandoning their child over badminton? I don't know. I especially liked and felt a dart hit my heart when she thanked Elena for not abandoning her because I feel that shows that she's been afraid of abandonment in MANY aspects of her life-- understandably. I mean who do you feel will stay with you if not even your mom will stick around, right? So I felt that, I just wish that was achieved in a different way. So "For staying with me... For not abandoning me... For inviting me to play badminton again... Thank you!" just kills my heart. And the whole drama was for crappy reasons in the first place. She up and left so her daughter could actually like badminton? Okay, but this woman has been gone for a long ass time. Like, it's not a day, month, or one year. We're talking about like... I dunno, a quadrennium? A lustrum? I don't even remember how long, but it's a long time of leaving your child just to get them to understand a point that it doesn't seem like she really even tried to communicate to her properly in the first place.;; Still, I'm just a bit... like, the abandonment thing was stupidly extreme, but the result of Ayano growing the way she did was oddly satisfying. And my gosh, Nagisa... my girl. "I don't know if I have talent at badminton or not, but I'll probably keep playing it forever". Like straight up, I sometimes think maybe I should throw in the towel for a lot of things because I lack the time and feel that I'm bad at them, but hearing this reminds me... I'm having fun doing them though, aren't I? The thing is, I really like the values associated with sports anime, but Hanebado added an extra drama element and went really heavy on it. Like, when you watch other sports anime, you might see some drama here and there, but they usually define each situation that they're a part of and not really the whole mood of the show. In fact, at some point watching this anime was really draining because I was more or less thinking, "Shoot, I've got to tune in for more mommy issues". I mean, self-esteem issues are sometimes a thing in sports anime, but this was just something else entirely. It was easier to follow Nagisa's progress and her own problems which I feel she conquered pretty quickly. But would I have wanted to watch Nagisa continue to treat her teammates like she had been in the beginning? Not really. I would have stopped trying to attach to her long ago. I feel like they struck a pretty good balance between Nagisa, who first appeared as... well, a bit of an enemy really, and Ayano who kinda appeared more as the hero. Because about half way through, Nagisa became the hero while Ayano became more of an enemy (even if to herself). That was risky, but it did make it easier for the audience since there really wasn't too much time spent where both Nagisa and Ayano were going downhill; if one was down, the other was up in one way or another. Overall, I'm still not sure how to think about certain aspects of Hanebado and will be thinking of ways in which things could have been done differently but still have the same effect. Still, I appreciate Hanebado and what it set out to do. |

ReguIus said: Loved it up until this episode. They pretty much threw it away. First time I've gotten mad at an ending in a while. Tbh the whole thing with her mother is retarded. She just forgives her and shit. The game was bs. Pretty sure if Ayano had been in a better state of mind she would've wiped the floor with Nagisa (I like Nagisa but still). And they had to go throwing in the whole "gifted" around... because Ayano never tried her best or anything amirite Ugh! Same!!! I was mad at that line of her being talented... like we’ve seen her practice too. The couch pissed me off when he started spouting that talent shit. |

Visuals are outstanding and very smooth but my god did I start to dread Ayano and her mother, with the overall melodrama in the show. I'm normally a big fan of sports anime and the matches were good but the characters and story ruined the experience imo. 4/10 |

As a all I enjoyed a lot this anime, but the last episode was kind of a bummer for me. Didn't like the way that Ayano was so forgiving to her mother, that woman didn't deserve any kind of compassion. I expected Ayano so cut connections with her and live a life free of comparisons from other with her mother. Having such a complex problem being resolved that easily was such a waste. Overall the story line was very good and enjoyable. |

i finished this show a few weeks back, but had to process my thoughts. is the show heavily flawed and have inconsistencies? absolutely. is it too melodramatic at times to the point of being funny? definitely. is the animation gorgeous? yep. is it entertaining? hell yeah. i liked certain aspects of the show, but some inconsistencies with connie's character, the dropped subplots and the worst mother ever destroyed this anime's chance of getting a higher score from me. i'll absolutely buy it on blu-ray, but i'm gonna give this show a c+. |

What a sack of shit "parent". The lack of any cognitive function is appalling. Ever stop to think that abandoning a young child who's emotionally attached to you "to make her stronger" could destroy her mentally and result in permanent lifelong scars? But no. Obviously the most appropriate thing to do is to leave your biological child behind for a decade, adopt a dumb broad from another country and put all your love and hard work into raising her while your real daughter has no parental figure during the most important phases of maturation and develops with multiple psychiatric abnormalities. Oh and make sure you never communicate with your real daughter in any form during this time - god forbid her misunderstanding that you care about her. It's been a while since I've been irked like this over chinese cartoons. Absolute garbage series 3/10 try again and this time try a non-drivel justification for the cunt. |

For everyone who doesn't seems to get it.. -Ayano DID NOT forgive her mother. -This is NOT a sports anime, it's a drama about Ayano dealing with abandonment issues through badminton. (same with side characters and their problems) -Uchika is a flawed human, she did not get a good ending, she still does not know or understand anything about her daughter on a mental or emotional level -Ayano is not 'cured' of her issues, she merely took the first step to getting better. she learns that losing doesn't mean getting abandoned, her teammates supporting her even though she lost reveals this to her. -'Edgy' or 'Dark' Ayano is her competitive personality (I'm betting a lot of you have no idea what this is actually like unless you've played sports), while the bad sportsmanship was a bad behavior trait that stemmed from her personal issues with her mother, moving forward Ayano should be able to fix this problem but can still be cocky and taunt her opponents. |

I didn't like how the series ended, I would have liked it more if Ayano told her mom staright in the face "when you die I will spit on your grave". I will lower my score for this series to 5/10 mainly because Ayano didn't properly break up with the b*tch mom, if Ayano had treated her mom the same way Dio from JoJo anime treated his dad then I would have given it a 10/10. Edit:- after reading the last chapter of the manga it's now more understandable why the mom left her like that, for sure it was a wrong dicision but it was understandable so I will increase my rating to 7/10. apparently she was sick probably cancer she had few years to live so she left because she didn't want Ayano to be hurt mentaly |

Another fucked up moment. Damn girl, i really dont understand your thinking. So, this is all about Ayano's find her true identity of why she loved badminton. The way she said it. The one that reflected o the other net: a reflection of you. Herself? Its too selfish. Rather i called it a nonsense. No loved for me. Its too much. The whole reflection were pretty fucked up and full of messed at every where. Shit. Its unexpected. I just want the same creepy Ayano back in action. Not just that undefined lost with nonsense reason at the end. She even can't changed her behaviour into one positivity at all. And everyone just accepted it so easy like nothing happened? Are you kidding me? Only Aragaki could slap hard that Ayano. Only on that moment. Only on that winning. For the sake of plot. For the sake of storyline. But everyone? And she dont get an appropiate punishment at all? Goddamned it, girl, not like that! I really don't understand the characterization over the character there. The sudden changed really out of my thought. Even that rejection can't served me well, because Ayano just accepted her like that! Even Ayano befriended again with Connie, such a shame. Hell, it would be good if Ayano herself had a punishment from her friends for being too harsh. But, no, the usual daily life keep circling like its nothing to happen. Damn, no realistic over that shit. And you could call that the realistic on over some non realistic sudden changed of characterization? Bullshit! I am out. Damn. Its no good. Its such a wasting time. The nervous really irked me til the end credits roll. The happy face. Yuck. Its hypocritical expression. The fake one. Thats it. So afterall, the story really fucked up so i must say it out loud: 3 Only art and sounds served good. I gave my sincere for both of that sections an 8. Characterization felt so fucked up too. I don't even called it the characterization since there are no characterization. Only random-nonsense sudden changed of personality that served well as a wishful wish from the author thats it. I called it a 4. However, since i like some side character, like the pink one, and that Riko, i can't resist to actually risen up a bit of my characterization scores to 6. Its enough. Same goes to an enjoyment. For the sake of my girl Riko. The overall might be pretty hard to make a wise scores. Tbh, i'm not a wise man. So i can make a simple judgement. The mean rate. So, to keep it simple, for story until the enjoyment: 3+8+8+6+6/5=6. However, i may used my biased point to raisen up a bit the whole scores. since i like the badminton branch of sport so much to be animated, and for the sake of my Riko, and her relationship with Aragaki, i couldn't help to give one more chance for this show. So, yeah its a 7/10. Thats it. Like i said, it will be good if the story conclude some great way to finished the mom's problem. Like slap her or kill her. Since that shit never happen, its useless to make Ayano characterization looks so creepy like that. The way they kept so hard to keep everything like nothing happened really yuck to be remember. Its shit. I even called it a trash. Damn. The good trash. I am just like the hypocrite too. But, whatever. Thats it. More biased one decision to saved the bad neck. So, yeah, thats it. I don't care anymore. Move on. |

10/10 anime, is not a master piece but one of my top 10 this episode too, a lot of metal breaks and feelings involved, i cryed a bit in the final aplausses take, because im a deportist too and i perfectly know those satisfaction feelings and frustrations. some people says that the anime needs more moral view, and in this episode the forgive scene is shit in their oppinion, i disagree, simply because its her mother, and besides all the trauma , she make her a better person, and is not like the relation has been restored, but now there is no more pain and no more hatred. the match were wonderful, it reminds me one of my special matches and most important ones. the animation, the camara points, the metal factor, and the last few points were just a masterpiece. i could talk more about this episode but the final conclussion is the same, is not a masterpiece, but it deservers the 10. |

I don't think I've ever been so angry and upset over a fictional character like I was with Uchika. I understand that there are some really shitty parents out there but what disappointed me the most was that she got away with it scot-free and no one called her out on it for abandoning her child, not even Ayano herself. Don't build up so much tension over the mother-daughter drama plot point if you're gonna resolve it in such a wholly unsatisfying way. |

What a weird way to end that mother - daughter drama... it wasn't worth at all and this drama ruined the anime I think, the badminton part was interesting and most of the characters were good but well it was clearly too overdramatic for me, and too bad because the psychological part could have been really interesting. |

My 76th completed series chronologically. For the record, I extended it a 7/10 rating. |

That was a disappointing ending. I wanted to see Ayano win and tell her mother to go to hell. Or better still, shorten the match with Nagisa (it dragged on too long anyway) and have Ayano beat her mother at a game. Maybe it's not realistic, but I'd like to have seen her show her mother just what she abandoned. Oh well, another one for the "great until they screwed up the ending" pile. :( |
