Found the overall series enjoyable. The ending though to me was fairly lacking. The whole ceremony they did felt like it took up to much of the episode, like the "conclusion" part of the episode was too short and felt rushed. Hoping that the Author pumps out the novels for a new season.

This anime had soooooooo much potential! This just might have been me, but I would of loved to see a horror/psychological sort of plot?? The characters just seem perfect for it. Honestly I thought it was going to be a psychological-genre show, based on what the feeling of the soundtrack is, and the fact that it was already quite mysterious...
So yeah, the ending made me quite mad, actually... I don't like that both main relationships didn't have a good closure to them. The character development that was put into Oreki and Satoshi's character was really interesting and neat, and I was just waiting for Chitanda and Mayaka's explanation for the way they are too... but I never got one.
At this point I think a movie would be really cool! Buttttt it's been so long since the anime aired so I don't think we're gonna get one....
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I miss all the characters already!!

I liked this show a lot it was so relaxing with the beautiful scenes and music this episode was okkk I didn't like the blurriness in the middle and I felt like the whole group shoulda been together interactin together but its whatevah.

That last scene thooo the pink with the cherry blossoms flying that was some #sceneryporn it was good, and when Chitanda said she'd do the science and Oreki was thinkin "I'll do the business" bruh. he want to join the Chitanda family buisness THEY GET MARRIED IN THE END AND YOU CANT TELL ME OTHERWISE!!! XD Either way though, this series made me happy with all the little mysteries and adventures they had but I feel like there is some hoooles left so I think I rate it 8/10

Just finished watching the whole series in one sitting. It was quite enjoyable, even with the open ending.

Though the last bit kind of ruined Eru for me - people can decide their own lives, nobody is going to force her to stay in the little village if she doesn't want it. The fact that she so clearly states that she's going to let her family-ties dictate the rest of her life and the implication, that she'd like to shackle Houtarou down with those same chains is quite repulsive to me.

Sure, if they were in their 30s, then the situation might be a bit different. Houtarou might welcome a life in the countryside at that point, especially if it's with her - but there's no way in hell that he should clap on those chains before he's had a chance to see what else can life offer. Just from personal experience, I find that people who live their whole lives in the same village/city and never leave for any extended periods, have a really warped worldview - their development as a "person" has been stunted by living in an environment that never changed.

So yeah, I decided to take the ending to mean that Houtarou would not end up with Eru - he didn't voice his feelings, since he could see the burden that would come with a relationship with her. He'd go off and live his live freely, while Eru continued being a loyal little heir for the rest of her life until her parents decided to arrange a marriage for her or something equally stupid bullshit that goes with heritage and traditions. I think I'll avoid any future releases that might dissuade me from this conclusion - unless it also includes Houtarou convincing Eru to leave the crummy village.

Well it wasn't really an ending because the story is still ongoing.
Might need several more years until we get 2nd season (if there will be any) because the novel is really slow, vol 5 came out 2010 and there' still no vol 6...

just finished it, despite the ending being kinda weird i absolutely enjoyed every episode of this anime and it became one of my favorites. of course i wanted more and deep down i really wanted chitanda x houtarou but i guess that wasn't possible :(

when you're young, you don't always say the thing that you should say to get the girl, you don't always make the move, but everything is still rosy anyways. life goes on and you can be happy without taking the big risks.

Hyouka is fairly overrated and was an underwhelming experience. The show isn't bad, and it has plenty of good qualities, but it's so far from being anything of excellence.

A less than eventful way to wrap up the series, but I appreciated the romantic bit at the end, especially with those exceptionally gorgeous visuals. Although a bit of a bummer that the confession (of sorts) was only Houtarou's imagination, it does show how he's been completely swept off his feet by Eru's tempo. Similar to Satoshi, Houtarou also struggles with how Chitanda's curiosity contradicts his entire way of life.

Well as a whole, "Ice Cream" certainly did satiate my curiosity. The potential dwindled as the cases lost momentum following the title mystery, but it was still able to use those various scenarios to build its characters and examine their relationships well. I won't go so far as to say that potential was flat out wasted, but the cases felt lacking and the sense of urgency and importance just wasn't there after the Hyouka case. Part of why I love slice of life is because it's able to take the mundane and transform it into something meaningful. Hyouka certainly managed to do that at some points, but then missed its mark and remained mundane on others.

Of course, a token mention for KyoAni's stunning visuals and oh so moe Eru. The imagery was creative and sensational, often making it more fun to follow the various theories and deductions. Despite that, however, there were parts that still felt dry and I can't say it was all fun and games on my end.

7/10, thought provoking and worthwhile.

One particular thing I loved about this show was all the awesome animations whenever they began explaining theories to the mysteries, it really made it more intriguing rather than just chatter.

Of course the thing that did it all the way for me was the subtle romance between Oreki x Chitanda throughout and the last episode was just ^_^

Of course I would've loved a good confession of sorts or kiss but you can feel that that'd be too rushed for them.

I can kinda carry on and be happy with this 'near-confession' ending though as Oreki blatantly has begun falling for Chitanda when thinking to himself. Seeing it in words made me happy enough, yay!

Well not bad at all, I like the part on how it end were both chi and oreki are really close to each other with a beautiful background though I wish oreki did say the thing for real!! Its sad to know that there's no season 2 available. Its not a good ending for me though because something still a mystery and I feel like its not completed. Its hard for me to accept it because I'm curious about the events after they graduate and also how successful they are on the future.I really miss the characters like oreki's attitude close to mine and chi who always approach on oreki ;) also the ost used that made me feel something special and calm!! I really hope for a second season release and I'm sure I'm gonna wait and watch it :))))

Well that ended in a good note.
So Oreki basically confessed to her...well in his head anyway.
Overall it was an enjoyable series.
I give it an 8/10 since it was beautifully structured.
There's some stuff that still unsatisfying to me personally but the strong points of this anime just overshadows it so I'll give it a pass.

Hmm...I'm torn over this show. On the one hand most of it was exceptionally boring. The mysteries were for the most part, completely pointless and I didn't care about them at all. But the movie and summer festival arc were entertaining and I liked the characters (okay, Chitanda was sometimes really annoying) and I thought the "couples" had good chemistry. Then again they copped out and didn't even give us one real couple...

5/10. Had either of the couples gotten their shit together (looking at you Satoshi), I might have reluctantly upgraded it to 6/10.

SPring for Hyouka. Ep 22.

Plot: Chitanda asks for Oreki's assistance with a Doll ceremony. THere's some small issues tha tpop up but everything manages to happen and Oreki gets to see Chitanda in make up and "dolled up". It was wonderful. There's alot that Chitanda has to do in the future but maybe, just maybe, Oreki will be there to help her.

Character: It was a great build up to wonderful fluff. Oreki helping Chitanda and thinking about helping her in the future. That was a marriage proposal if I'd ever heard one.

It was good to see Satoshi and Mayaka make up. I don't know what they talked about but it seems that they will be together.

Animation/sound: THe doll ceremony and the Cherry blossoms were wonderful.

5/5. A fluffy but good end to a great Sol Series.

I think I like all of the characters in this anime. ;_; There is not one character who I did not want to see more of.

I feel so good about completing this anime. It made me happy, and I am extremely satisfied that Satoshi most likely got together with Ibara. My only worry would be about his current perspective on love, however, love can help you grow.

The last scene with Chitanda and Oreki - dang that was cute! I wish he would have repeated his words about managing the business.

Not the best but definitely one of MoeAni's better shows

It's kind of weird that it has yet to and probably never will be licensed in the West, but then again, moe blob loli bullshit overload is apparently much more intellectually stimulating since shows such as Kyoukai no Kanata and K-on! got licensed and dubbed, so I can't say I am completely surprised

I'm still Curious, the ending did not feed my curiousity,
I mean their is still some unanswered questions,
If we see their love story from your angle of view we might agree this is a good ending , but still their is a couple of questions I still wonder about.
first chitanda's uncle, why did the writer said that he was missed not dead ?!! , and missing in india, the same country oreki's sister was visiting at the begining of the anime, could their be a story behind that ?
and why oreki's sister face does not show ?!, and if you remember, there is an episode when chitanda saw oreki's sister, she said that she saw her befor ! if this info was not important why would they menstion it ?
and where are oreki's parents? lots of scienes where at oreki's house shouldn't they have appeared at least once ? say at least few lines ?
and yet the ending did not feed my curiosity , does any one know if they realy considered episode 22 the end episode, or there is more but for some reasons they stoped doing them ???

By the end of volume 5 and the short stories there have been no mention of Chitanda's uncle, he probably just died.

Chitanda just said that Oreki's sister looks familiar, this is because she's oreki's sister

We saw Oreki's dad having breakfast with him in some episodes

They still haven't made a 2nd season because 1 novel and 2 short stories is not enough material for a nother season. And I think kyotoani's relationship with kadokawa is not on the best of term

And so it ends.

I have to admit, this series was a little slow for me in the beginning, and some of the mystery arcs were a bit too boring for my taste. The only ones that really interested me were the stories behind Chitanda's uncle and the Juumonji theft incidents. I didn't even start getting into it until the last few episodes, if only because of all the Oreki x Chitanda ship teasing (yes I admit, I ship them. They're one of my anime OTPs now~ <3).

Also, Oreki is totally husbando material. *w*

Overall, I give this series a 7/10. Slow, but still enjoyable on some parts.

Brilliant series. Hands down KyoAni's best TV anime both on a creative/visual standpoint and content wise. Apart from Satoshi, who got a little annoying and cryptic towards the end, the main characters were all wonderfully fleshed out, likable and played off each other very well. I enjoyed all the mysteries and it was interesting to see how they started from just a simple way to kill time until eventually paralleling the conflict of the main characters and further developing them as the mysteries upped in scale

Although I thought the ending was fitting with the series' nature as it effectively displayed how far Oreki has come since the first episode, I would definitely be up for a second season or even a movie if KyoAni ever decide not to pump out mindless garbage again in the near future, although with that being said Koe no Katachi could be a return to form for them if adapted well.

Perfect episode !!! I do have a bit of a similarity with his motto . Maybe ~ .

Props to the show for making a good , balanced array of perspective from a collective standpoint .
That is what Mysteries are for but I’m still a beginner on this kind of genre . Though , that doesn’t make myself think it as less of an interesting school theme because I loved it especially the animation and its music .
It’s a whole lot entertaining thanks to it being character-driven . I mean I was curious just as much as the characters does ~ . Rather it was certainly a unique experience and very educational ~ . :D

I finished it! Finally! I'm in a huge minority on this but I didn't care for this show. I didn't dislike anything about it outright. I just found everything boring, from start to finish, boring. I just never cared about anything that was happening. It was so strange, like I could look at it and see that it had good art, animation ect. even all these stories that I didn't care about were told well but I just never cared about anything that ever happend ever. It's taken me 421 days to finish this which is so unfair. If only I finished it yesterday it would've been perfect with sick dank memes. But yeah, I can now say I've finished Hyouka which I couldn't say previously so that's nice. No drop is the true winner in the end.

While it's not a romantic anime the ending did not satisfy me at all. Once again the spineless main character trope is used, twice! There needs to be a movie or something to wrap it all up. Overall I enjoyed this series a lot and will be missing "watashi kininarimasu".

Well then! This ep defienitely didn't feel like the last one, no conclusion what so ever...

Overall: meh.
Some episodes were more interesting (movie arc, school festival arc), some were just a total waste of time (like the final one). Compared to other KyoAni shows, like Chuu2Byo, K-On!, Key stuff, this series wasn't particularly funny or even just heart-warming either. Just... slow. Had some charming moments, but that's about it. Even characters weren't that likeable. The best things about Hyouka were stunning visuals and great music, but it's just not enough... I won't say that I've wasted my time with it, but there are better anime around. 6/10

the cases houtarou solved were boring and petty. The hyouka case was not that intense and really the message was 'I SCREAM'. The cases should have been serious and intense and not about stupid little school protests, forgotten lessons, how the door was locked from inside, school movie ending should be like and what happened to fukubes present. No season 2 for me thanks, i would rather watch psycho pass again and see kougami solving hard hitting cases and be really impressed.

Houtarou should really become a detective and work for Interpol or something, his brain is way to valuable to let it rot in some backwater town doing stuff for Chitanda's family business.

Speaking of Chitanda, I couldn't help wishing she fix her in-your-face tendency and get more knowledgeable about humans, without the rose-colored glasses of a rich ojou-sama, maybe then her level of being annoying would go down.

What was good about this series, except for Oreki's awesome brain powers, was the perspective of Satoshi's Watson to Houtarou's Holmes. Satoshi's jealousy born out of the natural difference in abilities he couldn't help and Houtarou's denial of the real value of those abilities that indeed make his special was an interesting conflict to explore. If there is a second season, I wish we could get more on this topic. Also, I wish Irisu and her stance would get explored more.

Overall, the show had a little of Oregairu vibe for me, which isn't bad, but it's weaker in the human relationship aspect, maybe because set pairings kill off possibilities and possible conflicts.

I squealed so hard when Houtarou said that line "how about I take those side businesses for you"!!!!! XD only to find out it was in his imagination XD but I also squealed when he said "I am curious" to look at Chitanda's face from the front under that Sakura tree!!! XD The last 3 episodes or so made me ship Chitanda X Houtarou even harder! XD

Finally finished this series today after years of it being on hold (as it was still airing at that time)~ I really like this anime - the plot (and the way he solved those mysteries), the animation, the cinematography, the colour scheme, the music, they all contribute to making this anime an intriguing and aesthetically pleasing series to watch! And the way it's done is also very refreshing, I love it! I feel like the focus of the mysteries in this series is not the case itself, but rather how it was approached/solved, so I won't say this is a mystery/detective series or that the mysteries were all impressive or great - case in point, episode 19.

Although there were a few moments whereby I was frustrated by some of the characters, they did not pose as major issues. They still irritate me though to an extent and I wish some characters like Chitanda change - her naivety is a bit too much for me at times lol. If only there were more episodes to further develop these characters, because so far the pace of the character development (and romance) is rather slow especially for a 22-episode series, but perhaps it is just in accordance to the novels I assume. I hope there'll be a season 2 for this series! I'd love to see more of such beautiful sceneries and cinematography, and especially more Houtarou XD

Good final. At the end just not revealing more oreki Sister details. Neither showed Chitanda visiting uncle's grave. It was a good ending anyway.
I enjoyed the time that the cherry trees appeared. The reflection of Chitanda about the problems with the land was interesting. This was one of the episodes that Chitanda least smiled, glad you knew Oreki bring good words at the end for her smile again.

Last Scene - Oreki & Chitanda in front of the cherry blossom tree:

Chitanda: " Take a look, Oreki-san.
This is my place.
All that's here are water and soil.
The people are growing old and tired.
I don't think that this place is the most beautiful.
I also don't think that this place is full of potential.
But...I wanted you to see it, Oreki-san."

My first thought was, that this means that Chitanda is the person who was responsible for the blocking of the bridge, so they had to go the alternate route, so Oreki is forced/able to see the cherry blossom tree. But maybe it's already the start of Oreki's daydream, so Chitanda never said that.

I would like to hear any other opinions about that.

„Hyouka“ was I think my first „slice of life“ animation show with realistic characters and scenery wich was still airing when I started it. I dont know why I started this show. Maybe it was because of the fantastic animation style. I remember that I watched „sakamichi no Apollon“ befor, too, but it was more a love drama show. But I liked it. „So lets try „hyouka“, too.“ I thought.

And it was different. It was a school show, but I didnt like „school shows“ this time because I was afraid that there would be to much unrealistic comedy and crazyness. But „hyouka“ was not like that what I found out really soon. I started to like it also because of the fact of solving mysteries. I am a Conan-fan and enjoyed solving murder cases with this guy those days, too. x) So somehow I felt at home while watching „hyouka“. And the main girls were really cute, too. ^^ But later the school festival ark boosted that show into my absolutely top favorite shows ever. Everything was so colorfull in its own way but cute and relaxing. On top of that those fantastic animations. It was simply done right. In addition the romance was never to much for a guy like me. „Hyouka“ was well balanced. Also besides this the general color style was kinda different. Many school shows have those strong or saturated coloration, bright colors to catch the eye. Not „hyouka“ somehow for my eyes. It felt really good watching this show. I felt really calm, peacefull and so on. A great feeling still today.

I finally fell in love with „slice of life“ and lighthearted romance or lighthearted drama and also school shows doesnt scare me any more. ^^ „Hyouka“ became some kind of special spot on my long way watching movies and shows or reading books (like for example „cowboy Bebop“ did why its for ever on #1 on my list). After all those superpower or action shows „hyouka“ finally opened a door to another world of stories for me and as I look back now those new stories (for example „no non biyori“ or „hibike! euphonium!“) or the changed view of older works before watching „hyouka“ (like some Ghibli movies) made me into a better human beeing I think. And thats why this show has a special place in my head and heart.

Because of that I was never able to watch the last episode. I think everybody knows that feeling after the very last second of a show you liked watching while airing: „Now its over … … That void …“ ;) I didnt want to have that feeling because during the second half of the show it grew into my heart and i could not wait until the next episode was aired. So as I said, I never watched the last episode and I saved that for a special moment. Well, later I found one: I decided to visit Nihon for one year and after some years it came true. First I wanted to watch the last episode at my last day in Nihon. But I found out, that I can visit the model town of „hyouka“, Takayama. And yeah, some days ago i finally reached Takayama during my bicycle tour through central Honshu. I I explored a lot of places from the show and also made it for a short time into an afterschool club from that school! =D I knew where the last episode takes place and that you can see some nice sakura blossom in this episode. I decided to watch the last episode right there. I found the place with this sakura tree. It was not spring, it was autumn, so no sakura, but still it was more I would have ever expected years before. ^^ Sometimes you have moments in life you wish you can freeze them. It was definitly one of them for me.

So, thats the intro to my personal look at the last episode of „hyouka“. x) And I was realy happy somehow, that there was no real conclusion of the story strings. I was scared all the years that it would be definitly over. But its not somehow. There is still the small possibility that there would be more at some point in the future. And somehow I can live with this feeling more than with a real ending I was so worried about. But yeah, I still made it (more) special for me. And all that feels good. =)

„Hyouka“ may not be a favorite series for everyone because its too boring or there is no real end or no extraordinary soundtrack, but who cares. For me it is more than a masterpiece until I die. i will visit Takayama again, enjoying the hyouka spots, maybe I see some guys from „my“ sportsclub at the hyouka-school again or even can visit a school festival there, too (too bad there was none at my stay there). ^^ Lets see what the future has for me! =) Until then some hyouka-music will definitly pop up in my music player or some random hyouka-pics will appear here and there and that will bring back the feels every time for sure.

Thank you, hyouka!
