I honestly think that the battle shounen and Isekai genre are far more enjoyable to watch. Imagine that we had so many LotGH-tier shows, then it would become so how hard to binge watch the shows. Every episode would be super heavy and if you stop watching the show in between, it will become very hard to go back to it. On the other hand, shounen shows are so easy to on the eyes and brain, you can super easily binge watch them and you can come back to them even after a long hiatus. They feel like home. But yeah, 99% of them are super lame too. |

One Piece's sales are just absurd, close to the double of 2nd place... Very happy for TG:re! Since the only one above it that it could maybe beat is Boku no Hero Academia, but BNH had a recent anime, fifth place is very good. The drop from Haikyuu to Nanatsu is too big... |

Kimi ni Todoke handed the baton to CardCaptor Sakura to shoujo manga. The only manga I follow in the top 50 list are 3-gatsu, Gin no Saji and Wataku no Koi. LittleKitty24 said: Magi was able to reach the top 10 it needs another season! Magi has ended its serialization. The chance for another season is almost gone. Anyways, other than Violet Evergarden (which is head and shoulder above the rest according to the tracker), CardCaptor Sakura Clear Card-hen, Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san, Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu and Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Take On Me are the most anticipated anime for winter 2018. I am wondering if both CardCaptor Sakura and Nanatsu no Taizai will have significant boost when they get their anime aired. Duke_of_York said: Why is Gintama not on this list? :( Gintama sold around 270~300K per volume over the calendar year iirc. How would it make it in the top 10 list? If the list is expanded, it will be around Top 20 or Top 25, probably. |

LOL XD Pretty sure 11 million is actually fairly bad for One Piece standards Digital stuff actually decline the Manga sales. While it's not fully a bad thing Manga/anime/LN is the one who need to evolve to follow the modern concept. I do agree reading Manga/LN are still far better on book but when you had a smartphone or pc that pretty much do the same with same adjustment why go just go with "physical"? I am quite sure Manga physical sales decline somewhere later in 2020. Similar how Digital store or rent taking over BD/DVD for game/music/movie industry. Physical should still exist but yeah having it alone doesn't help and i think reading it online literally same as pirating, no? I mean we read something that copyrighted and we didn't even had it. Or was it the same as playing/watching other people playing games,renting/borrowing it? |

Why are they only listing the ranking by series only up to Top 10? It's been Top 30 in previous years. The manga ranking by volume goes up to Top 50 this time instead of Top 100. The LN ranking by volume goes up to Top 50 for the bunko category instead of Top 100. |

I will like to add that kingdom got a huge promotion, because it was featured on a popular Japanese television show and that boost the sales tremendously, I think that talk show happen in 2016 or 2015 and that is when Kingdom sales spike up and everyone was buying all the old volumes to catch up. If Kingdom even got a good adaptation, I doubt it will make much difference to the sales now. The series per volume sales jump from 200-300k to 800k per volume, Kingdom backlog boost is drying up, but it can have a chance of beating snk next year, since all three volumes for snk will have a limited edition ova's, and those sell between 200k to 300k, and sadly oricon don't count the limited edition sales with the regular edition sales. In 2014 snk actually sold more than one piece, but it lost because oricon don't count the limited edition volumes with the regular edition, and those were selling 300k+ that was the year snk lost to one piece by a 100k. Though to be fair, one piece did only release 3 volumes that year because of oda sickness, but I felt that was the perfect time for snk to take advantage of that, sadly it did not happen. snk has no chance of ever beating one piece again, 2014 was the best opportunity for that. |

(assuming you're talking about the top 10 series) Why would it be? Its back volume sales (as we can see from when new volumes come out) are basically nonexistant. This means it needs to rely entirely on its sales of new volumes. With 2 volumes out in the covered period (although a third only a few weeks before which thus would have contributed something) I very much doubt Index would be anywhere near the top 10. Indeed I'd be extremely surprised if it sold half as much as the requirement to get on that list. |

Below is the number of times that a series was rank 1 or in the top 5 of the weekly light novel series rankings during the year. For comparison with the overall figures. Ordering within ties is largely down to when a series first ranked in that position. There were a total of 53 weeks in the year - this means KonoSuba (and that alone) was in the top 5 for more than half of the year. Weeks at #1: Sword Art Online - 8 Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu - 6 Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei - 4 Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! - 4 Accel World - 4 Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e - 3 Monogatari Series - 3 Overlord - 2 Knight's & Magic - 2 Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka - 2 Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records - 2 Youjo Senki - 2 Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken - 2 Shousetsu Kimi no Na wa. - 2 Kokuhaku Yokou Renshuu - 1 Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata - 1 Kino no Tabi - 1 Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru - 1 Eromanga-sensei - 1 Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index - 1 Weeks in Top 5: Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! - 27 Re:Zero - 25 Sword Art Online - 22 Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e - 19 Eromanga-Sensei - 12 Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei - 12 Youjo Senki - 12 Shousetsu Kimi no Na wa. - 11 Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records - 9 Gamers! - 7 Imouto Sae Ireba Ii. - 6 Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata - 6 Strike The Blood - 5 Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka - 4 Kino no Tabi - 4 Monogatari series - 4 Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Gaiden - 4 No Game No Life - 4* Accel World - 4 Overlord - 3 Isekai Shokudou - 3 Knight's & Magic - 3 Date A Live - 3 Kokuhaku Yokou Renshuu - 2 Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru - 2 Youheidan no Ryouriban - 2 Goblin Slayer - 2 Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index - 2 FATE/STRANGE FAKE - 2 Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! I may do a top 10/top 20 list as well if I feel like it. *Note: on release week, No Game No Life: Practical War Game was included in No Game No Life's figure. The following week it was given its own entry (No Game No Life Tanpenshuu) |

Wrong! What doesn't count together is the "by volume" list, the overall list counts everything of the series, regular and special edition. Basically in 2014 the best volume of Attack on Titan sold 2,276,439 copies, but by just looking at the list you would think it sold 1,895,305 copies. Also note that the One Piece volume that sold less that year sold 2,698,071 copies, still 421,632 copies more that the best of Attack on Titan. If you want to talk about something that isn't counted, take the One Piece Logs. A "Magazine" with 30 chapters of One Piece, and that isn't counted here because it isn't a volume. |

*2. **,960,418 Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! If only KonoSuba's volume 13 was released last month or two, then it could've sold another 80-100k and reached the 1m sales threshold. *3. **,925,671 Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu Also I didn't expect Re:Zero to sell these much. I thought their books only sold around 60-70k? How did it almost rivaled KonoSuba that sold over 90-100k per volume? Is it because Re:Zero published more volumes this year? Or did they actually sold more than 60-70k and I forgot? I can't remember. And Index is no longer in the top anymore? No wonder the anime got greenlighted after so long. |
