God fucking hell I love Man with a Mission.

Not a big fan of the CGI but it's not bad enough to deter me.

Now when people ask for a show with an old man main character, well now, I got one.

Hopefully it does a full adaption, I never did finish the manga.

@Mohammadalmannai I plan on reading the manga, so I doubt I'll be missing out on much.

Yeah, hiring live action actors, that have no prior history or experience in voice acting, to voice act the main characters of a popular anime is definitely a wise choice.

Also, why are you even surprised by the fact that there's so much CG? Wasn't it advertised as a primarily CG anime?
Not really? The only CG advertising this anime had in the PVs was of the mechanical parts and the aerial flights. Which would be totally understandable since both would be very hard to animate. But that's not the case.

It's not like MAPPA lied to us or anything. We got exactly what was advertised. MAPPA did much worse with Kakegurui and Virgin Soul
It's not about lying or telling the truth, it's about MAPPA going shitty with their recent anime.

IDK what to say, It brought out such AMAZING feels for me, I always had a soft spot for old people, On how there lives are, How they are insecure and weak, This anime does proper justice to my thoughts on them. Literally cried a crap ton, Maybe cause of my soft spot for old people.

Not only that, Feels good that this old man's gonna be something special!

Mostly people concentrate on people in high school or at a manly age to make content upon nowaday, But this actually freshens things up alot!

The MC (Inuyashiki) is already one of my fav's cause he represents my grandpa so well, I'm like that dog to him which Inuyashiki has ^_^

Amazing pacing, great OST and characters to develop.
The amount of potential this has is incredible.

Pretty nice first episode. The 3d felt a bit off at times but nothing too jarring. 2d animation on the other hand was great, as expected from mappa. Inuyashiki's VA choice is pretty unusual, but in the end i did like it, it changes from those stereotypical japanese grandpa voices. The first part manages to be genuinely sad even though it did feel a bit forced, but inuyashiki's sad life is so overkill it's kind of an achievement to still make it sad, especially with such a fast pacing. Second part was cool too (just like the op, damn do i love man with a mission)

I had like no idea what happened to that guy, but honestly this is sooo interesting and I am ready for more feels. The fact that he didn't get any affection from his family made my heart hurt, you know when he got those bad news about getting cancer.

I really hope this anime will get even better during it's time running

Will 1 cour be enough to adapt the whole manga? Since "Koi wa Ameagari no You ni" will be airing next season on the Noitamina block.Or maybe a split-cour?

There are 85 chapters of the manga, and this episode adapted 7 chapters. There should be no problem. The thing with the manga, is that it's mostly art, and little dialogue.

7 CHAPTERS!?
How long is a chapter? Did they cut out some content?
This felt like 4 chapters at most. If they can somehow keep it as good as this episode with that pacing i'm hyped (though i've seen some manga readers say it turns to shit, hopefully i'll enjoy it)

Edit: i just checked the first chapter of the manga, they cut a shit ton of content and changed the way inuyashiki meets the shiba. I can tell this was rushed af. Hopefully they'll only cut/change actually unnecessary parts.

As I said, doing the mechanical parts in CGI is understandable and I didn't expect it to be is 2D to begin with.

But outside of that, when he got out of the car he was in CG (with 2D mixed), when he was running in the night he was in CG, during the fireworks he was in CG, the dog in scenes where it did nothing but stand still and move it's tail was in CG. I don't think any of these scenes would be hard to animate for any studio.

So awesome to see how well this turned out. This show has the potential to come from out of nowhere and get Parasyte or Gantz levels of success.

And the contrast between the main characters is hilarious and amazing, I really hope the other guy who became a robot is an absolute psychopath.

I'm a little bit conflicted on this one.

On the one side I really liked the idea of having a rather old protagonist who has to face his own impending demise and the shallowness of his social environment but finds a little spark of light in form of this dog who unconditionally shows him affection and appreciation. The OP was totally right up my alley too.

On the other side this really great dynamic went poof the moment everything was suddenly about Inuyashiki's robotic body which is a weapon arsenal as well ( that he was given to by some alien life forms because "Why is that my problem, who cares?" ).

What I also didn't exactly like is how hard the show tries to make you feel sympathy with certain characters to a point where it led to the exact opposite accompanied with a good amount of disbelief in this whole setup. I could get behind Inuyashiki's family not being exactly thankful or loving to him but things like the doctor pretty much rubbing a death sentence into his face or a group of kids intentionally wanting to kill random people was just too over the top for me to naturally become attached to the characters. It's as if the show pushed me to care for the character in order to make what followed work.

Now onto the shallower side of arguments. While the CG ( the robotic dismemberment parts in particular ) are jarring to a point where they look goofy in my opinion, I believe once they are in motion this problem should disappear quickly.

Overall I found it started with a really great set up and a theme that hit close to home but quickly turned into something I increasingly lost connection or interest in.

I never said the CG was bad looking. You can check my original post if you don't believe me.

My problem is that if they are using CG for such simple things, what are they going to do with more complicated stuff like action scenes? I don't want to watch a CG fest when I can just go and read the manga with it's gorgeous art just as easily.

This is definitely the series I was looking forward to the most this season lol. Oku Hiroya back at it again! Everyone's already said it but that OP is just the best!

I also noticed that many people are complaining about the use of CGI on the series. From what I've noticed the models aren't lacking and their movement seems rather fluid. The backgrounds seem detailed, and the staff revealed to be working on it right now are all people who have worked with great looking CGI projects in the past.

Director Satou Keiichi - Gantz: O (Another Oku Hiroya adaptation)
Yabuta Shuuhei - Did the CGI directing for Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress /Attack on Titan
Character Designer Naoyuki Onda - Did the animation directing for the Berserk Trilogy movies which looked amazing compared to Berserk 2016/2017.

I'm not the biggest fan of CGI, but I'd at least give credit where credit's due. This episode looked pretty good so far in terms of visuals and animation fluidity.

That OP song was complete fire and the ED song is just as good.
MAPPA always do deliver on the musical front though.

This is without a doubt the best first episode of a non-sequel anime this season.
I felt so sorry for Inuyashiki that I actually cried...so kudos for making me care about the MC in under 5 minutes.
He's just so sweet. How can you not route for him?

Definitely interested in the other guy who got rebuilt as well- I wonder how he's taking it?

Only thing that irked me a bit was the rough mix of CG and 2D animation but it's not bad enough to deter me from watching.
Now I'm wondering how many episodes this'll get...I mean the manga ended at volume 10 so there's no reason not to adapt the whole thing.

It is a good series.

It is even more relaxing to have a protagonist that is an old man. You don't see those very much. Only a dozen or so.

So far it is a good adaptation, Panel by Panel. The CGI could use a little polish but hey it is not the worst of it's kind so it will do.

The intro was catchy and in full English.

I read the manga. If their is one thing i am hoping they could fix in the anime from the manga source. Is to change the ending. I won't spoil but it was anti climatic and out of place when compared to the rest of the series.

Sold start 8.5/10. Keep it up.

It has 85 chapters. The first episode covered 7. Based on that it will definitely be a full adaptation in one cour. It is just weather it will be 11 considering it is airing in NoitomaA or 12 episodes in all.

I thought this was a solid start to the series. Only thing I didnt like was CG for the dog but its really just a minor thing. Felt bad to see Ichirou being treated the way he was. Poor man has had a long hard life and then having that news of cancer hit him was the final blow. But now he's a robot and ready to save some lives!

I'll admit, I wasn't a fan of how the manga ended and so if this is a full adaptation, this is one of the few moments where I hope MAPPA is faithful to the source while actually giving an original ending.

Regardless very excited for the next episode.

That was some intense stuff. Bully fail compilations could add this. But while it was exagerated (I mean, the family and all) I quite felt the situation Ichiro is in. And the especially the way he defeated those rotten kids was impressive. I thought the light beams for sure would pierce them and then there'd be a lot of blood.

And, of course, as everyone already mentioned... that OP!

Yes, since I started reading the manga, I was in the hype for watching the anime! Opening and ending are beautiful, can´t decide wich is better lol there's some different details from manga, but that's ok since it don't change the plot. The cg was ok for me, I think it goes very well because of Ichirou is cyborg (and drawing each animation frame would be hard...) and the show have a "more reality than fantasy" aura so.....
BEST PART: felt that satisfaction seeing that bunch of furbed brats under that firework rain and running away... That's why I love this show.
Now let's wait for the next week!

Not sure what to think of this.
- CGI is beyond average
- Voice acting average (realistic?)
- Trippy, which is intriguing
- Weird/weak scenery composition
- Below average soundtracks (like from an indie game)

Pretty average but unusual enough to watch. Will give this show a fair chance, I suppose...

After not being wholly impressed by Yuri on Ice and disappointed by Kakegurui, I'm happy to see that MAPPA is finally producing some quality content ;) The art style also reminds me of Parasyte for some reason

If this series can be a full adaptation of the manga with this level of quality, I will be impressed

Also, I didn't mind the CG at all thus far. Probably some of the most natural CG I have seen from anime ever.
