All the numbered chapters from Dissociation chapter 2 onwards have sub-chapters representing events occurring in different timelines. Final Chapter is the one that brings the timelines back together again. And if that was the final chapter of the whole series, why did the author state AFTER that volume came out that there was more planned? Something which to the best of my knowledge he has never changed. Yes, it does feel like an end to the series. Yes, the author's afterword makes it clear that he had no intentions of writing more in the near future (at the time). But if the author himself has stated that that isn't the end then that's as good a confirmation you can get that it isn't the end (bar a new volume actually coming out). There are plenty of series that are "ongoing" on far less basis than that. Also worth pointing out the 4 year gap between Dissociation and Surprise. And that was even the same story arc. |
