Man this show is gonna hit me hard in the feels. I don't even know if I should watch this weekly or wait for it to finish at this point. Good stuff though. I like the mix between the happy and kinda depressing atmosphere the show has; pretty interesting.

Am I the only one that started crying when she handed him the bento and told him she would make lunch for him everyday? And then his facial reaction to it all? No? Just me? Cool.

Honestly though if I'm already getting emotional during episode 2, I'm probably going to be a mess by the time it's over.

I didn't remember the revelation about Kakeru's mom and his corresponding absence from school being revealed so early. Then again, It was about 5 or 6 months ago I read the manga in between classes at school so my memory is likely just fuzzy.

Love the atmospheric feeling the episode gives. And Kakeru's smile is just as glorious as in the manga. Seriously, it's one of the most genuine and vibrant smiles I've seen in any anime.

We also get our first glimpse at Naho's conflict of "trust the letter/don't trust the letter" and "let the letter tell me what to do/be too shy to do what it says". Like she said herself, even if the letter tells her what to do, her super-shy introvert personality will conflict with that sometimes and this is where some of the drama comes into play.

Great adaptation so far. 9/10. Still a little worried how they'll fit the remaining 20 chapters into 11 episodes (considering they are about an average of 50-ish pages), but I have faith.

As good as everything else is in this show, I find Naho to be extremely annoying, particularly her future self and how damn vague she is with her letter to the current Naho. Like, how will making him lunch prevent his "accident". And if it's a suicide that she's referring to, which is what I'm expecting, why say it's just an "accident" rather than say exactly what happened? After all, how is current Naho supposed to save Kakeru if she doesn't know the truth about what he needs saving from?

The thing with future Naho is that she doesn't exactly know how to save Kakeru, she just kind of goes down her list of regrets involving Kakeru that she remembers and tells her past self to act differently in those situations (the bento, inviting him out on the first day, many more to come) in the hopes that they will somehow positively alter Kakeru's future.
Agreed though that she does need to be more specific in regards to those regrets at the very least, like why not to invite him out, etc.

Also, in regards to why she refers to it as an "accident":

I can't blame Naho for her hesitation for not following everything that the letter tells her to do. After knowing about Kakeru's reason for his absence, I would bet that she'll abide to her letter from now on.

The whole scene when Kakeru revealed to Naho about his mother's passing was handled really well. It also explains why he refuses to join a club outright, but at least he will provisionally play for the football club though.

What Naho needs to do now is to make sure she can prevent Kakeru's death in winter, although it is not known as to how he dies.

Overall, this episode was great. =)

So, if Naho hadn't invited Kakeru along on the day of the orientation (the day his mom committed suicide) then Kakeru would have been home when it happened. Could he have possibly prevented his mom from dying had he been there? That possibility has to be going through Naho's mind as she considers the ramifications of ignoring the suggestions given to her in the letter. I bet she starts following the instructions very closely from here on out.

The feels.

I root for her saving Kakeru but If she would succeed in saving him, wouldn't that possibly change the future of her marrying Hiroto and thus the existence of her child? That seems awfully selfish.

Another chapter adapted pretty well. Now it's revealed that Kakeru's mom committed suicide and Kakeru is no longer with them in the future. I think those scenes were handled pretty well.

Great episode once again.

Great episode. I just love the background art in this anime. Especially all the trees. Love the ED song.
Nice to see everyone be so friendly.
Kakeru is pretty good a soccer. He should definitely join the club.

Naho's homemade Bento look delicious. Thank god she gave it to Kakeru in the end.
Dark moment when Kakeru mentioned his mum committed suicide during the opening ceremony.

While I was a bit frustrated with Naho's social ineptness through the first half of this episode, it really made sense when she mentioned that simply knowing what she "should" do because of the letter does not change her shy personality, especially towards a person she hasn't known for long. Great episode.

I love how Orange is going so far. But I'm a little worried, because they seem to be moving at a very slow pace. It's only going to have 13 episodes but only 2 chapters have been adapted so far. I hope they make the pace a little quicker, to like 2 chapters per episode otherwise they might have to cut stuff out to get a full adaptation.

At this rate, maybe a planned second season? There's no way they're not going to do a full adaptation...

Anyway, while I like the slow build-up, Naho's personality is the kind that I really dislike seeing. Perhaps because her type is like the shoujo cliche...

Gosh the soundtrack in this anime is just too beautiful.. the art style was perfect for it too. Artistically this may be one of the most breathtaking anime in recent memory and it doesn't even use any extravagant visual effects.

tbh something feels off about the style and animation of this show - I can't say what it is though ...

really liked the scene where Naho & her mother were like "nah, I won't do it", but then still do their thing in the end (visiting the neighbors / making lunch for Kakeru), that one had a nice touch to it.

Also when they were sitting down at the park, things just turned dark super quickly, holy shit xD
I really hope the story progresses in a good way D:

Oh I see. I realized that why would she even do that. Maybe the death of Kakeru was so huge affecting all of her friends and herself, that she would have to. Then again I don't know, maybe we will get some context in future episodes.

Goddamn, in just two episodes the creators have made me become very invested with these characters, which I can just feel is gonna be shattering.

P.S. What was up with the scene where Kakera greets Naho in the morning? One second he doesn't have a blazer, the next he's wearing it? Sure, he could've put it on, but the dude was still wearing his bag within those two shots. What's going on?

Yeah, I'm also bothered quite a bit by the letter not being very specific. Like, the very first thing that the letter asked Naho to do was not to invite Kakeru to hang out after school. It read something along the lines of 'I don't want you to invite him. Seriously'. And that's it. Surely, stating WHY she shouldn't invite him would've added more weight to the 'warning' and served as a driving force for the recipient of the letter to actually abide by it? It doesn't help that Naho by that point doesn't even reach the part in the letter where Kakeru's death in the near future is revealed. That'd have still held the possibility of, you know, taking a hint and ensuring that the 'warning' to not invite him is carried out somehow. But either way, it's only sensible that if you're asking someone to do (or not do) something–on the grounds that if they don't (or do), things could go horribly wrong–you'd back your appeal up with some sound reasoning instead of merely telling 'Do this/Don't do this. Seriously.' and expecting the person on the other side to abide by it (especially when you claim to be from the freakin' future, which already inherently poses the risk of not being taken seriously enough).

This seems to be a case of compromising on logic and believability in favour of plot progression. I'm otherwise kinda liking the character-drama, but this particular aspect of the show might prove to to be a deal-breaker unless the show manages to rationalize it down the line.

So, Orange has passed one of the bigger hurdles that all anime have to go through, the second episode. The first episode created excitement and the second managed to carry on the exact same feeling. So many times have an anime started out great with it's debut only to fall short the next episode leaving the viewer confused and questioning what went wrong during the storyboard development phase.

For a drama it's certainly delivering at this point. What I really liked about this episode is how the show never really dragged on at any point. The drama is fed to us in bits allowing us ample opportunity to think about what's going on, to start asking questions to ourselves, without making the show boring or dull. Dialogue is the most element and the show gave us plenty of breathing moments between them to allow us to digest everything and more importantly not get sick and tired of the pacing. Yes, it can be slower at some points, but that's inevitable for dramas. Being a slower paced show does not make it dull as long as it's not tiring to watch. The little bits and pieces of the story all acme together at the perfect time. In other words, the pacing was great in this episode. I have a lot of troubles sitting through dramas sometimes because either it feels rushed and you don't get a chance to develop a connection with the characters or it gets dragged on to oblivion and I can't help but do something else on my second monitor. Good signs so far.

A surprising thought came to me as the episode ended. Again, there is a little scene of all the friends in their adulthood going to visit Kakeru's grave. As the scene went by I realized something. My initial thoughts in my episode 1 writeup was that future Naho was writing the letter to attempt to change the future. But, it came to me that what if that's not the central point of this show? The words "regret" keep popping up in the dialogue and a few questions hit me. Kakeru's death may be unavoidable, they say fate can't be changed. Now, future Naho keeps telling younger Naho that she has a lot of regrets yet the future scenes at the end of the two episodes seems to depict all the characters in a rather happy mood. Maybe I'm reading too much into this or maybe they've already grieved enough to let go of those feelings but I think the scenes at the end are actually showing the future group in the timeline where there are no, or at least, fewer regrets since younger Naho already messed up with the first warning. This completely changes the tone of the show for me. Instead of it being an anime about changing the future through your actions, it takes on a more realistic approach in living life without regrets. Being able to live life without regrets is something that I think every person should strive for. There's nothing worse than thinking "what could I have done, what should I have done, if I did this would things be different?" for the rest of your life. No matter how many times you say sorry you'll never get over that feeling of regret so it's important to cherish the special moments in your life and do whatever you can to live life to the fullest and in Orange's case, to give yourself a memory to treasure.

That is just my mind going wild and speculating a whole bunch. I have no idea what to expect still and my excitement has yet to die down. Rarely do I put so much thought into an anime, this is an unfamiliar territory for me and I can't wait wait to see how it all ends. The story of living life without regrets would be very refreshing to experience but even if the show doesn't go down that route I am positive I'll still enjoy it.

I loved the use of the mother-like figure reference for Naho. Something that was jokingly said early in the episode turned out to have a deeper meaning by the end. of it. I'll be honest, I was expecting it, it was pretty obvious. Still, the power of those words managed to leave an impact even though it was predictable and rather cliche.

Moving on, the soundtrack has yet to leave it's mark on me. Maybe it's because I'm into the more powerful orchestral pieces like in Madoka Magica Rebellion but there have been plenty of shows that have 1 or 2 tracks that leave an impression on me. So far, that's not the case. It's not a bad thing though, a good soundtrack captures the viewer whereas a mediocre one will just fly by. Nowadays there aren't really any "bad" soundtracks.

To close up, Orange has met my expectations so far with flying colors and I can't wait to continue this story.

You could write a review with this...

But I think that the visuals are fantastic and the music is great... it's a tearjerker and i think this is clannad and/or angel beats part two.

Overrated show so far, like Erased was too.

Great OST, great art and animation, but with a thin ( and recycled?) plot and characters clichés. A foreshadowed depthless story.
We cannot expect anything more from a Shojo.

Shigatsu was more efficient in everything, back then in 2014. Comparing their respective female lead (Kaori and Naho) is like putting a buttefly beside an ant.
