Back to present time....nice to see the cute Airi once more~

So....if Satoru somewhat fails or finishes his job on the past he would go back to the present time? Quite convenient power, I thought he would spend the rest of his time on the past's timeline.

Airi and the manager are bit too trusting.....they're willing to help a murder suspect just because they believe he wouldn't do something like that.
....and I was right.....

What the fuck are you even talking about? It wasn't Satoru who lit Airi's house on fire....

Can't you read? I didn't even said something stupid like that.

I don't even understand how you came to that after reading my post.

The mom really pisses me off. She's very good at doing that. When she threw away the gloves Kayo knitted for him my blood was boiling. Another great episode A-1, I'm lovin' it so far. Also, they guy who was talking to the pizza place's manager looks like the guy who stabbed his mom in their apartment.

Satoru will probably try to save Airi from the Opening and he's probably gonna get framed for this too, the killer is a mastermind if it goes down this route.

Satoru crying at that park and then the scene where he saw the mittens was hard to watch--
When Airi snapped that phone and punched Manager in the face, was the best part.

Most of the episode was enjoyable. However, after Airi finished telling her story I almost burst out laughing. Okay, so a moderately prestigious, kind and honest person is caught in a small town with a chocolate bar in his pocked. Everyone apparently refused to believe there must have been a misunderstanding, that this always kind person has any meaningful reason to steal a chocolate bar, his own wife included. He then left his club, got a divorce and left his house... over a freaking chocolate bar.

Either that story was meant as a satire, or it was just a section of extremely bad writing that's not characteristic for this show. I mean... what?

I have not read the manga, so I'm going to argue about what I watch.

Idk if Hinazuki died at Hinamatsuri night, because the day after birthday of the two of them, even the next few days Hinazuki not been found. If it happened on that day, the possibility of the killer is her mother and the man in the house.

Seeing something after Satoru back to the future, as the perpetrators who killed his mother is the mysterious guy who talking to manager. Seen from the scene when out of the restaurant, followed by a fire in the Airi's home.

His reaction to Airi, could be a manager like Airi and maybe later it will help Airi and Satoru.

Don't give me spoiler from manga!

This.... lol..
I just don't know now, about where this show is heading. This episode was certainly the weakest for me. Up until this episode, the events, situations, and actions of the characters all seemed to be fairly set in reality (ignoring the single phenomenon of Revival). This episode kind of went away from that.

That's OK, it's anime, it can do what it wants, right?.. Well yeah, but it doesn't really feel right when all the episodes before didn't depend on such "extravagance" for creating a sense of tension and drama. Examples of what I'm talking about being the chocolate bar theft story used as a (ridiculous) 'unfortunate/traumatic childhood memory' to relate back to the 'unfortunate/traumatic present situation', Airi straight-up punching her manager in the face (I can take the phone snapping I guess) which caused random gushes of blood to come out upon contact, and the house set on fire..
I mean, really? This is a teen girl who was walking around, presumably, by herself until sunset. I would go out on a limb to say stalking her as an ADULT MAN and waiting for the right moment would be much easier than successfully setting an ENTIRE house on fire, without knowing when the residents will be back home. But maybe not. It would have caught much less attention if the culprit just bided his time, at least for several days or something, to get to Airi rather than set fire to a building the very NEXT day after murdering someone, anyway.

I don't know, my thoughts aren't totally organized about what may be going on. I'm hoping I'll be proved wrong with a decent explanation of how some of these things happened in such a way. Right now it's feeling a bit rushed. Maybe Airi's parents/aunt/uncle are in on it, or Satoru is, maybe there's more than one perp... Maybe next episode they'll say "lol tricked ya the house fire was just coincidence, they left the stove on". Who knows.

Are you seriously implying that small things, such as thieving, can't break up a family in real life? @@

And actually the chocolate bar wasn't the problem. The fact that the mother lost faith in the father was.

Every once in a while, a show like ERASED comes along and proves to me that I can still feel something while watching anime.
Shows like this are why I love anime so much.

This episode felt like 5 minutes to me. Do you know how long it has been since I have seen an anime so captivating that it held my attention from start to finish? Not once did I take my eyes off of the screen.
And that cliffhanger made me say "FUCK" out loud lol

You'd be surprised how much a little robbery can put someone in a deep hole, especially a man with a good reputation.
Also, that's a dumb reason to lower the episode's score that much.

This anime is forcing me to become the most bitter, cynical and insensitive bastard the world has ever seen... It is toying with my emotions too much.

Also, I have a feeling that the only thing viewers are going to take away from this is the fact that Airi's mom and dad got a divorce because of a Hershey's rip-off... Let me provide my quick and simple opinion. If Airi's mom didn't believe the dad when he said that he didn't steal a chocolate bar than what makes you think that she's gonna beleive him if she's suspects that he's cheating on her. All it takes is one text or email from his female co-worker or second cousin and she'll go ballistic.

I'm not sure what to think now. Sure, this anime is interesting and keeps me motivated to watch... Yet I must say I dislike where the plot is going. I thought it would make more sense to stay in the past, so the "Boom! back to the present" just didn't click for me. And I also really enjoyed the atmosphere they had going on. Then again I would appreciate it if Satoru's Rivival ability was explained more. Overall, I still enjoyed the latter part of the episode even though our mc is too dumb to realize that the police wouldn't just assume he's guilty if he were to be turned in, or better yet, turn himself in. And then we end with a cliffhanger! Yay! (This anime really enjoys doing that) Although, this is actually pretty fun, watching a series as it airs, this is my first time doing so.

Ok someone please tell me that Airi's parents didn't really get a divorce over a chocolate bar? Especially considering Airi was a witness. What just because she's a child you really can't believe her? Kids aren't stupid. Also there was legit no proof he stole it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the marriage was probably facing problems before the dreaded chocolate bar and it was inevitably going to result in divorce...or maybe they just never loved each other period. Either way the story shouldn't have implied it was because of chocolate. Not chocolate. Chocolate is innocent.

Also I personally think the killer is stupid with this burning down Airi's house. Or rather it's the police that are stupid when/if they think Satoru is the culprit. Really what reason would have have to burn down the house of a co-worker who as they will find out was actually helping him.

As a matter of fact this whole framing of him being the culprit pisses me off. It happens in real life too, but really you accuse the child of killing their parent first? They have no history of being violent/hating each other. Of course him running away makes it look fishy (hence why he shouldn't have) but that landlady...she's friendly enough with him to enter his home unannounced yet the first thing she thinks is that Satoru killed his mom? kmt.

You're kidding me, right? How in the hell did nobody believe that the kind adult took a chocolate bar for no discernible reason, not even his wife? So what, was she like: "Oh, yeah, that definitely sounds like him, better not believe my husband who's had no other similar incidents and wouldn't risk his reputation for a small piece of chocolate". We're not talking about robbing a friend or robbing a bank - it was a piece of chocolate even a beggar could buy. Scratch all of that if you want - why didn't the owner just excuse him? Airi's words imply they were friends, or at least on good terms. That bar cost like, what, 1 dollar in yen? I guess 3 months suspension is worth a bar of chocolate. Kindly stop trying to justify this. The fact that a chocolate bar destroyed a marriage is even more ludicrous than all of the above, unless everyone in that small town (including the wife) were mentally challenged. That... or this is plain bad writing.

Imagine what would've happened if they found TWO chocolate bars in his pocket. His wife would've probably hanged herself without asking for an explanation. I actually sympathize with the man - he probably left because he was surrounded by idiots.

I took a whole point off because that stuff was retarded no matter how many defenders come up with the same "it's totally possible, man" line. I took another 0.5 off because all the previous episodes were better than this one as a whole. My first line was that it was still enjoyable anyway, didn't think someone would actually get bothered by anything below a 5/5.

Looks like Satorou is on the run now. Well if he didnt act like a pussy, have at least tried to defend himself and not ran away then he wouldnt be in this predicament. It does seem like he will go back in time again turning this show more-like steins;gate. The new character introduced who's face is not shown sure is suspicious. At least I have another character to be suspicious of aside from the teacher (or maybe they're the same person?). I dont believe Airi will die from the fire, I think she still has a role in the story. It would really suck if she does die in the next epsiode.

Am I the only one who thinks that Airi is probably a reincarnation of Hinazuki.. I think the timeline fits (well this has time travel element so this is actually plausible. ) as Airi was probably born a bit after Hinazuki's death.. Hence same catchphrases.. Satoru helped Hinazuki when she was alive so Airi is returning the favour..
And that Last Meal Judas photo references in one scene when Satoru was in manager's house made it obvious that the manager will tell on the police.. haha.. they had to make it obvious..

Its funny how people think that stealing a chocolate bar cant lead to all these things.
One of my cousin's wife had to lose her job and legally not allowed to work in that country because she "apparently" stole a bangle when she had no recollection of doing that and yet it was found in her purse, resulting in her losing her job and stuff. I dont know what happened since conveniently there was no foolproof CCTV footage and all(just showed she was taking the bangle and examining it), but stealing things from shops no matter how small can escalate to something really big. And if you dont have trusting family members you really feel hopeless.

Also the child said that her dad was a respected person, who knows what he actually was.

What in the world is going on? So tempted to just pick up the manga RIGHT NOW AND FINISH it.

From what I can see, Satoru is NOT the killer. It doesn't make much sense. There are still points that can lead to that, but the possibility of it is low.

Freaking Airi. I LOVE her character since the start. Reminds me of a friend of mine. But now she's possibly gone just like what the OP suggested. So is Kayo. But she's gone now too. Ugh.

So from what I can infer, his revivals are very much "real" and WILL change the outcome in the future. The guy that manager was talking to is DEFINITELY a culprit.

I was waiting for the trainwreck episode and it seems it was episode 5 this time. Script made no sense, the art was horrible, the corrupt politician/killer(/teacher ?) was blatantly revealed, the direction was almost laughable and everything felt forced from beginning to end. Reminded me of SOA, proving once again that Tomohiko Itou just can't direct anything properly.

While chapters 2,3 and 4 were amazing this episode felt much more ... plain.

And it's not about the plot itself (although I'm not a fan of the turn this has taken, I was advocate of only getting one chance to save Hinazuki, not this potential Steins;gate plot), it's about how the show is directed.

While all the past episodes were incredibly atmospheric, paused and they built tension slowly (and some scenes were beautifully directed) this episode 5 was just... plot, things happening. No great shots, no atmosphere and no tension whatsoever. It was just like any other generic anime out there in that sense (again, not talking about the plot, which I'm still quite intrigued with)

What really made this anime stood out amongst the others this season wasn't the plot, but how fucking beautifully made it was. Don't fuck up in that aspect, please.

I think Airi and Kayo have some connection (though obviously they're not the same person). Based on Satoru's actions and the Ending I'm feeling he will end up sacrificing himself to save (at least) one of the three. I don't really care about a happy ending, just one that solves things nicely.

Satoru continues to do nothing. He knows there is a killer on the loose, yet he doesn't gather information, he doesn't arm himself, he doesn't warn anyone, nope, instead he goes to school and hides under a bridge. It's starting to get tough to watch this show, Satoru is about as interesting as a pet rock, when there is an obstacle or a challenge, he does nothing.
