it was still sad... in the least that i liked Neji.
i totes forgot shikamaru and ino's dad dies too /hahaha/
it's just been too long since i read that scene in the manga LOL

And even if i do comment: "dont friggn compare anime to manga coz you'll be disappointed either way" people would still be anal about the anime counterpart, right? :/

I really miss how naruto use to use sensible logic like that. Now that entire concept bout blocking chakra walls and causing internal bleeding is kind of void at this point.

Oh I found what was off....

It's all thanks to crappy villains like Madara and Tobi... If this were orochimaru, it would actually be some clever fight.

Kyuubi giving Naruto an asspull form every few episodes isn't helping either.

Satisfying episode, got teary eyed there a bit. Neji should have gotten more screen time before his death, definitely would be more impactful :/

Still I really liked this episode, Naruto got dark and bloody suddenly, me likes.

It makes me wonder how can people cry after this, I mean who the fuck still cared about him? He wasn't shown in the anime since ever

Such a fucking cliche death, even the "don't call the medics, i'm already done, let me do my emotional last speech while a conveniently die at the right timing" is there

This war arc has been a complete trainwreck, thank god at least Orochimaru's back

I'm not a Naru x Hina fan so I had a straight face through out the whole part of her speech. Hope next week's episode is better though.

The upcoming episodes are going to some of the best shit. But isn't that always the case when the story focuses on sasuke?

I would agree with you but Sasuke's been annoying with the "I'm gonna kill everyone on the leaf even the innocent that have nothing to do with the Uchiha massacre"

Yea, that pointless revenge that should have been mitigated after he met with Itachi. Itachi said he loved Sasuke straight up, but Sasuke is still angry... =/

How can i say this with out spoiling it lol

Well.. this is precisely what its going to focus on in the upcoming episodes. They are quite informative and will expand upon the uchiha back story and once secrets are revealed, then you will understand sasuke's true agenda.

Yes I already addressed that if he did not get the answer then, then the answer itself would have been absolutely irrelevant. Since he already seemed to have dealt with it.

Another point I'd like to add to MoeGod, you're wrong, Hinats is not the only one who'd give her life for naruto.

Back to you, Neji was bad writing because he had been absent for ever. And now he's suddenly here, only to INDUCE and force the already not so relevant, as mentioned above, Naru x Hina "development" which is a terrible excuse for a shipping. That forcing ultimately is far far away from good writing.

WAD, you're right but I still blame him for not planning it.

Well so far Hinata's the only one who has jumped to protect Naruto from certain death so I'll leave it at that. As someone else have pointed out, Naruto only promised to find the answer. How does that suddenly become irrelevant? it's not like Naruto has to mull over it all the freaking time (who wants to read that?). Obviously he hasn't forgotten it because Obito's words rocked his belief that he'd ever found an answer.

I also don't see how Naruto despairing over Neji, the guy who used to be his rival and also fought alongside him against the Sound Five, is any worse than Gon grieving over Kite, the guy he barely knew who he only met once and happened to meet again for a brief time. That's why I mentioned double standards in my earlier post. While I already mentioned that Neji could've been given more screen time before his death, it served its purpose. Go read my first explanation (that you challenged) again to see why it's not necessarily important to prolong Neji's death because it's not suppose to give you the "feels" or to shock you.

Wrong, she wasn't the only one.
It was irrelevant because it never affected him much ever since despite people other than Neji dying. People as close(r).

As for that comparison,
1) because of the layers of the conflict being more than just relating to kite himself, and meaning behind it, rather than another belief vs belief plot point.
2) it was built up and written along the entire series, not happening in one episode, and ending 5 minutes later.
Long story short, it's top notch vs very sloppy writing.

Knew that Neji dies but didn't expect Shikaku and the rest as well.

But yeah seriously Pierrot fucked up, there was hardly any emotional impact. Also the way Neji was killed was pretty shit, he was hardly around Shippuuden much (same for the rest of the teams, they were ignored and forgotten, this is something I hated about Shippuuden) after having a big role in the original and he just gets killed off. Neji was one of the few character's I really liked in Naruto, didn't do him justice.

At least Hinata is <3, Naruto better not go after Sakura after all this ):<!

the latest shinobi war episode after kakashi arc is very good, but it's seem they want to speed-up the pace. I meant like they don't make Madara kicking Guy and Hachibi ass scene. Guy releasing Hirudora like it was nothing, the HQ got blown up like it was nothing.
I don't mind they speed up the pace but please don't ruin the good moment, just don't make any filler afterward and I will be grateful enough. :D

Neji death at first I though 'it's just a wooden spike why the hell would he died?' and after I look carefully the wooden spike is sprout inside neji body. Poor Neji+

I'll admit the pacing in this episode was way off. Maybe because I binge read the manga during this entire arc but the destruction of headquarters destroyed me ): but this episode was not done well at all with that. I feel like they should have split this up into at least two more eps. but whatev hopefully the sasuke arc will get its spotlight. Also i heard someone on here complaining about the music? The ending music and animation was beautiful and very well done. first 13 minutes? eh

There were many deathflags raised, but damn I didn't thought Neji was one of them at all
It was usually someone from the Sarutobi clan
What a painful way to perish, though the build up to his demise wasn't all that great

The strike on the villages and the alliance force HQ was impressive in contrast to it
Maybe it was too much to crank into one episode, but still amazing nonetheless

Ten tails getting another transformation reminds of Frieza from DBZ right away

Hinata standing by Naruto's side was comforting scene
Go Naruto charge up the the ones that dodged the wooden spikes and retaliate!

I so did not see this coming! I cried my heart out the entire episode, after witnessing Neji Hyuga's death - I just couldn't believe it was happening. I used to love this character -even though his presence was rather short in the anime, I liked him, I liked his story and, more than anything, his transformation. I loved how he changed into being something better after his fight with Naruto, I loved how caring he became, what a good comrade he became, what a attractive young Hyuga he was *hahaha*. Gosh, and now he's dead - I just couldn't make myself believe it, until it was too true to be denied.
I cried a lot at the sequences of this episode - I don't regret it, though, it's been a while from my last tears at this series, and I am just glad to see that I am still SO into it as I used to be in the past. I love it now more than I did in the past, actually, because the connection with the characters is greater, and my level of understanding them and their circumstances is higher - therefore, I appreciate them (and the story) much more than I did in the past and I am more liable to cry at certain sequences than I was in the past - yuppy or not yuppy!

What I also loved in this episode was Tobi's speech and Hinata's speech: I know they are the opposite, and I know I also dislike Tobi in a way or another, but I can't help understanding both sides. I understand Tobi'a fury, Tobi's desperation (even his malice, I guess). I understand much about him, I understand why he react the way he reacts, why he wants to transform reality into an illusion. I happen not to agree with his position, but I understand it -therefore, I liked his speech and thought it was quite good, at least very persuasive and might have been successful if there wasn't Hinata to help Naruto - but not only Naruto, she unconsciously helped everyone else on the field. I believe so because after making sense out of Naruto, she encouraged everyone else by succeeding into making Naruto more rational about the entire situation (somehow). I loved Hinata's speech because it was simple and true - I also wondered what she was going to say and she didn't disappoint me (on the contrary). I loved how she touched/was that a slap??/ Naruto's face, and how gentle she was, yet how strong and persuasive (the complete opposite of her usual self). I love what Naruto's done to her, and I love how their entire relationship evolved. I hope she won't die and I hope Kishimoto Masashi won't transform into an G. R. R. Martin japanese-version and kill all the characters I like!!!!! though I am not up to date with the manga, but anyway...

I loved the episode! I loved Neji, too. I am so sad he died *sob*

Omg, I am so totally in love with Madara after this line ^_^
I agree, sometimes the speeches can get a bit boring especially when you are expecting action.

Speaking of action, noooooo. Poor Neji ;_; He died so fast, I didn't even get a chance to feel the drama or emotional impact. The anime didn't build it up enough beforehand.

Damn, Obito really called Naruto out on his promise to never let his friends die. That's gotta hurt.

Lucky for us Hinata's speech reminded Naruto about his ninja way. I liked that they reference his ninja way which they haven't mentioned since the original Naruto series. I don't care what happens now, Hinata and Naruto are canon for me ^^

And damn, Bee really laid a number on the 10-tails. If that doesn't do some damage to him then I don't know what will.

It's a shame, really. I mean for the past few weeks I've been hoping that Sasuke would have swooped in and lent some help after his heel-face turn. Then again, I guess they did have to differentiate Naruto and Obito somehow, so it had to be done.

Oh, and this was so poorly executed. It pales in comparison to Jiraiya's death scene.

The circumstances are entirely different. Jiraiya was fighting a life and death battle alone against Pain. Neji was fighting in a large scale conflict and in the chaos sacrificed himself so Naruto and Hinata wouldn't be killed. It was never supposed to be as over the top and dramatic as Jiraiya's death was, it was supposed to be sudden and brutal, because they're in a fucking war. Also Sasuke hasn't had a heel face turn, what the fuck are you talking about? He's unsure about what he wants to do, so Orochimaru is taking him to the ones that know everything. That has nothing to do with the current war, Sasuke is still choosing to do his own thing currently.

True, but that's not to say they can just discard him like they did with no real build up. Neji wasn't just some lowly red shirt.

Neji barely had any screentime in Shippuuden and now he just dies like that. Feels like wasted potential. Some of my favorite fights in the original Naruto were from the side characters like Neji. We barely got any of that in Shippuuden, and with the story coming closer to the end there's no more hope to seeing this in the future.

No more hope... maybe in Obito's dream world, he can make us Naruto episodes with more Neji fights, lol.

I'll admit it, seeing as I semi-grew up watching Naruto and really loved Neji's character. I just commented on a previous thread about how it was good to see him again within the flashback and then this happens.
Very touching episode. Especially when HQ got blown up. I was in utter shock. I mean I know it's a war going on but witnessing them die is always hard to swallow. So many feelings as of right now.

I just have to say way to go studio for fucking up some of the most greatest moments with that terrible ass animation. Thats my only real gripe with this episode. I wish the animation was imrpoved in some of these scenes.

Neji's death just didn't have the impact i would of hoped that i experienced from the manga, but it was still sad and the the sound tracks they played during those scenes were excellent, especially when neji held naruto's hands ( naruhina fans go crazy)

R.I.P Neji

It was an ok episode but could of been so much more improved if it had the same animation of the previous episode.

And Neji goes down where the hell are u when you're needed Sakura?! I thinks his death was meh, but the speech after it was good i guess.

By the way it almost seems that Obito wanted Naruto to suceed, since they're the 'same'

The OST is really good, but sooooo overused, a solid ep overall 4/5

Cringed so hard.

Best moment to win the war (when everyone is down after Neji's death) spent on speeches, Obito, why you fail so hard? One can argue that Obito was attacking Naruto psychologically, but we all know that Naruto is so unrealistically stupid/naive positive that it wouldn't affect him (or someone will help him get out of it >almost instantly<). just nitpicking here because the series drags on so much

I felt that Kishimoto-sensei killed off Neji just to increase the death count when I first read this part in the manga, and I still feel that way now with the anime.

I cried this episode! But not from Neji or HQ dying... but from Obito attacking Naruto with his words.

The way Obito challenged Naruto to say again that he wouldn't let his comrades be killed and Naruto couldn't say it! TAT
Because Naruto failed to protect his comrades and Obito hit him hard with the despairing reality. It hit me hard too and I cry to fictional stories for some reason!

As an anime-only follower, I actually watched the anime episode first before reading the manga since I've never been much of a manga reader and only because people were comparing the two. In other words, I am backwards of most viewers!

The feels were definitely stronger in the anime than the manga from someone of my perspective. Maybe because I saw anime first and/or because I'm a mostly non-manga kind of guy, but that is my peculiar overall.

Many complaining about this but the manga was hardly any better. The only reason the anime felt more rushed was because animation has to move and can sit still for you to just get over your shock factor and absorb the scene. In the manga you had a still image you stayed there watching until you fully realized what happened. But the truth is they hardly did it any different than the manga, the manga just threw his death out of nowhere also.
