2 kids with the same splitted personality, that alone is a great idea. And making Hotel Moscow and Lagoon face each other is even better. Great episode, great characters, surprising deaths, really sad.

Just read through the comments on this thread and it amazes me how many people are wondering "what did she show Rock that made him sick?". I think it was pretty obvious that the reason Rock got pissed/sick is because the first thing she wanted to reward him for being nice to her was sex. Just shows the fucked up childhood these twins had to go through.

Exactly what I thought aswell, as she was implying that's something she was used to be doing.

Considering they found out who the twins are from a child porn, I don't think offering sex would surprise Rock that much. His first reaction was shock and somewhat disgust and keeping in mind that twins were switching places with each other i think they were castrated and their genitelia were beyond recognition. That's what get to Rock. Though I can't explain why she would do that to Rock, who she seems okay with at least, but i chalk it up to she being a maniac.

As for the episode and the arc overall, I wasn't really impressed with it and just wandering how Balalaika would deal with them but after hearing Gretel singing the world of midnight, and then hearing the song once more at the end I suddenly realize I was sad for her (not the twins, just her, which also shows the power of the song imo). There was no happy ending for her after what she had been through but at least she didn't suffer like her brother and died watching the beautiful sky.

I agree with dutch, she/he/it had the voice of an angel... it was so beautiful, dammit.

Felt bad for the twins after hearing their back story.

That ED... so damn sad...

Really, REALLY good episode.

I disagree with everyone in this thread. Although the back story of the kids is interesting... it is totally negated by the fact that they are kids. It is just completely unbelievable, while I thought that this anime was trying for some level of realism. And there is no advantage to the characters being kids. Perhaps a creepiness factor, but IMO that is completely ruined by the stupidity of the situation. And if the author wanted them to be kids he should not have armed one of them with a machine gun that is bigger than they are. At least the one kid with the ax is at least some what believable.

I am glad they are dead. Now the series can move on.

The so-called "kids" was about the age of child soldiers fighting Africa or those that fought in the Vietnam war. I see no problem with them being children. And the whole arc was a reference to "The Shining" anyway. It's much worse with children as soldiers, they completely lack conscience and morality.

Well, that machine gun was a bit exaggerated, but how do you explain Revy killing a whole platoon of soldiers by herself without even getting scratch? This is anime, so exaggeration must be expected......How do you explain Roberta having the "body of steel"? I have thrown away the "realism factor" long time ago since I started reading Fist of North Star when I was in preschool.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

What is the matter with some of you, Rock wasn't disgusted at seeing male or female genitalia. He was disgusted that a child's reaction to someone being nice was to instantly propose sex, further cementing how far gone these kids were.

This, thank you, seems like not many people are smart enough to realize this.

This arc though.

The pasts of the twins and how they affected them was pretty dark. Not only their murders but also them groping Edas breasts or showing Rock their genitalia.

They had to go through some shit. Just sad.

The one who died at the end of this episode could have also been the guy. Whichever gender the second one was, it was undoubtedly NOT a pretty sight for Rock when he/she lifted up his/her skirt. One's imagination can run wild for that, it's probably in a state where your typical average citizen wouldn't be able to recognize anything at all.

It's a castrated guy.

I wasn't really blown away by this arc like everyone else tbh. Not sure why but I just wasn't all that into it. They did a good job but I just wasn't all that dazzled by it.

When the second barrage started I was so hyped by the story because of Roberta's scenes when she ride with her car on the top of a house and compared to The Terminator, huge LOL right here... I was so hyped, but then, BUT THEN, come this fucking twins, I hate shit like that... these kids surpass the FUCKED UP term...

As far as I'm concerned, the highlight of this anime is how different Rock is from the rest of the characters, and how he has maintained a sense of uncorrupted goodness. I love that, and it was used in this episode with beautiful effect during the scene in the ship with Rock and the second twin.

How often do we watch an action packed, explosive, gun-fest of a show and just see people dying left and right while not really thinking anything of it? Well, I know that I personally tend to get caught up in things like that, to the point where I get numb to the violence. I think the scene with Rock and the second twin was a bit of self aware reflection, perhaps talking outward to the audience. For all the times when we can get psyched up and numbed to the death and destruction of a show like this, there *needs* to be a character like Rock. He serves to slow things down and remind both the audience and the other characters that all this action and death may be exciting, but it is not normal or good. He is the call to return to sanity.

I almost want to say that this one scene kind of sums up the dynamic of the entire show, with their conversational exchange, followed up by Revy punching the twin in the face.

Man I cursed the makers of the show so much for the last 3 episodes. So much bullshit and insults to the people of my country not counting the bad way they speak the language. Also a total misunderstanding of what happened after mr Ilici got to power. If they were supposed to be sold children they should have a bit darker tan. Mostly gypsies tended to do that because of their ancestral way of life many did not reject. Gypsies come from India and they remained with the same bad habits with some exceptions. Part of that way of life was having a lot of children they could not support. Romanians generally did not give their children away. The muslims took them by force during the ottoman occupation but that is something different. And it had nothing to do with abortion. It may come as an surprise but when you work hard there is not so much time to have babies.

This little mini-arc is probably the best in the whole series so far.
Ngl a part of me was routing for the twins, but there really was no saving either of them. If anything, their deaths felt more like mercy killings than anything else.

If only someone like Rock would've found them sooner...
I didn't expect the ending though, I honestly thought she (?) was gonna get away at the end there. It's probably a good thing she didn't though.

The whole "vampire" thing had me curious though- it sounded like they believed the more they killed, the more they added to their lives, making them essentially immortal??

Do NOT distance yourself from the emotion of these episodes. Listen to them in your native language and use your imagination to try and empathize with what is happening.

I've seen my share of sick anime violence, usually particularly aimed toward young children, just for the shock factor. Its a sad fact this happens so much in real life.

I DROPPED the show after this episode, it was too upsetting for me. As the wise man said "there is nothing new under the sun" and "all this has happened before and it will all happen again" - King Solomon, 3,000 years ago. So I KNOW this has happened to young children somewhere.

People who criticize the reality of the fighting miss the real point of the episode. The reality that a small child could physically hold a rifle is not the point. Its that all the adults in this situation treated those children without obligation. This is the truth and the darkness of the underworld.

The pinnacle of the episode is the middle-aged Russian woman, barren and by all rights a mother figure with maternal inclinations, did not even do what pragmatic mafia businessmen would in killing quickly and efficiently. She sat in sadistic court , giving this child a cruel death.

THAT scene and others like it are the TRUE realism of the episode, the lack of sympathy and concern for only you and yours. Antisocial, taking no responsibility towards horrible products of their own underworld, like these children.

BTW, rifle-wielding children is the fan service of loli anime and something to be expected in anime. Try not to look at these decisions as mistakes in realism. They're business decisions by artists and producers. To truly understand a show you have to stop thinking like a consumer and instead the creators. Then you'll stop sounding so naive, with self-centered tunnel vision comments, filling message boards with private opinions no one cares about and instead intelligent observations.

I wasn't too crazy about this arc in the beginning, but this was a good ending to an interesting arc. Both of their deaths were awesome.

If they werent kids, it wouldnt have been nearly as creepy of an arc.

In the beginning, I really thought they were gonna be vampires.
