Really boring episode. I expected a lot more, although I can say the infection and scientist woman are interesting enough to keep watching.

2/5. I'll give it a few weeks/eps.

I did enjoy it, currently starting the manga because this pass year these endings have been awful.

I kind hope Renta gets powers from Enju.
Sure, its the same thing from date a live but these mc's as of late are lacking power.

Didn't manage to finish the episode.
It initiates with an average premise which I had no problem with.
The things gets a bit silly later on, after the opening.

- Humanity's last hope is on a teenager punk with a died multi colored hair who shouts his "attack names" when performing them, and on a high-pitched voiced annoying loli with super powers. ermm...
- Main villain is your general clown evil psychopath who wants to destroy the world.
- There's also a "badass" high-school girl with disprorpotional breasts who likes to boss around.

Pretty put off so far. If only the anime was slightly more serious or mature.

Wow an interesting premise went down the drain just like that.. the opening scene was so promising yet after only 10 years somehow humanity has rebuild perfectly and somehow find themselves the perfect means to fight the bugs. Oh and let's make it even less serious, let's treat it as a business where the saviors of humanity (which I assume is limited in numbers) compete against each other instead of joining hands to fight the common threat.

Of course to make it even more ridiculous, let's not equip the police with weapons that can actually hurt those bugs and leave it to these so-called civil officers who, special bullets & mutant partners aside, are as normal as any humans.

Did I mention how those SWAT teams just stupidly stood in one place and watched, as if in awe, as their comrades were gunned down one by one instead of opening fire at the clearly suspicious guy?

Oh and to make it even more fun, let's add an annoying loli who's even more irritating than Yaya from Machine-doll.

I just want to smack whoever made this story. Seriously.

The monster-virus premise sounds pretty neat. I'll forgive that somehow Tokyo was rebuilt in 10 years, and maybe this black metal is pretty rare (apparently not, since they built monoliths out of it... but I'm going to go with that), but why aren't these Initiators a little more... hm... organized? or having a bit more government supervision or something? It doesn't feel like they're taking it very seriously, even though they try to look like they are.

Anyway, I can glance past the plot holes, but damn, Enju is annoying. She might kill the show for me if she doesn't stop with her "I'm your fiance, we have a romance, take me now," crap. >>; He has way more patience than me, I'd have lost my temper something fierce by now.

There really isn't a whole lot else to this episode. They killed a monster and we get a glimpse of their day to day life, and had a whole lot of info dump. I'll keep watching for now. :)

Hmm, I thought it was pretty average. I mean this is not really anything new by any means. Will keep watching though because the art and animation is great. Not to mention fripSide op and nagi ed D: Also, who would want to miss a series with Kaji Yuki in it?

Yeah, the loli was annoying. Hopefully we will see more Kisara in the future episodes.

I get a Psycho-Pass and Shingeki no Kyojin cross kind of feel from that first episode so far. Black Bullet has the special, well, black bullets, unlike the special guns from PP. The Civil Security reminded me a lot of the Enforcement Division. And the brutal transformation of humans into those spiders totally gave me PP vibes when a person had a really high Psycho-Pass. I suppose it's more similar with SnK considering the premise, only instead of Titans, it's Gastrea, and it's set in the present-like Japan. And of course, the whole "humanity's last hope" thing. Regardless of the similarities with either, it's been an interesting episode to watch.

I love Enju, not gonna lie. The way she's animated, not so much her appearance, but her movements and such kind of just grabbed me... I can't really explain it well. The fluid animation is probably what got me. It's weird, but I'm so easily captivated by such smooth animation...

Really looking forward to the series so far!

Btw, am I the only one who thought that "If you do not want to die, survive!", the first coherent sentence uttered in this show by a dramatic voice from offstage, was absolutely hilarious? The masked villain wasn't much better in this regard. With this kind of writing I have very little hope for the rest of the series no matter how much blood is spilled and how many people turn into monstrous creatures.

I agree with that, but I also blamed it on the translators. It wasn't a bad translation but a good translator will take proper liberties to make things make more sense in our language. I would've changed it to "then don't give up!" Or something like that.
The_Bif said:
That line, "if you don't wish to die, survive". I know that the fault should lie with the translators, but I still cannot let it go for some reason... "if you do not wish to die, survive", as opposed to what? "if you do not wish to die, rub some bacon on it?" Hopefully the translators will do a better job next time.

I think the translator shouldn't be blamed about it. Because "Shinitakunakereba Ikiro!"("If you do not want to die, survive!") sounds even strange in the Japanese language. In ordinary, it would be said, "Shinitakunagereba Nigero!"("If you do not want to die, run away!" or "Shinitakunakereba Akirameruna!"("If you do not want to die, don't give up!"). I guess the author actually used bizarre sentence in order to emphasize the meaning of "survive!". But in Japan, many fans laughed at it, because it was nonsense in Japanese. It was a problem about the original text, and the translation didn't concern it. It was a joke for the world.

So far I'm not impressed. It's pretty much the usual trite fantasy stuff with some supposedly grand and ambitious setting but gets bogged down by inane comedy bits and awkwardly inserted exposition. Even the action scenes didn't look as polished as the PVs suggested as they are neither particularly dynamic nor do they contain interestng fight choreography. The colour filters used for them don't add anything except making them look slightly smeary. Even the OP looks uninspired combined with unremarkable J-Pop.

It will probably just be a fluff show similar to Kyoukai No Kanata. I hope it has a lot more plot and a more serious tone but I don't expect much.

Better than expected. The CGI was a huge turnoff initially, but so far the characters are cool and likeable (except for the Loli who is just there for the sake of it being anime). The action scenes were kinda great and that masked villain also seems to be an awesome bad guy. I also like the backstory and the setting. Will keep on watching.

Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga.
Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month.

I agree with both of you about Enju, I'm a LOT more interested in her than the main character, who is like a less interesting Eren from AoT. Dunno why people don't like her, she's an adorable, badass loli who's clearly quite precocious sexually. Too bad for her she ended up paired with such a stick in the mud. Then again, people bitch about titties in anime too, so people on MAL will complain about anything.

Will probably watch it for the loli action, if I drop it it's because Rentaro just can't maintain my interest. On the other hand, if he continues to be the usual lame main character, I might enjoy it more when Enju beats the crap out of him.

Guys, question about the setting...
Did anyone pick up on how infectious the virus is? I know it's usually contracted through bodily fluids and also through pregnancy transmission. But (and I feel like I just missed the explanation) how contagious is this infection if the inspectors were calmly walking around the stage-one spider carcass. Also, Enju kissing Rentaro, I thought that would be one way to contract it.
I am I too early, or did I miss it?
