Note: you probably won't find anime/manga/LN rated less than 5 on my list. Why? Those I drop (as I am not a masochist), and, as I don't rate dropped anime and simply see no reason for including them here, they are not listed. At this point I have dropped more anime than I have completed. Think of my list as more of a "Liked anime list", with the only exceptions being sequels/spin-offs of shows I like.
RATING SYSTEM:
Animes are rated according to an average of the following categories: Story, characters, art, animation, cinematography, soundtrack and acting.
As for mangas and LNs: Story, characters and art.
Personally, I don't like the fact that MAL score doesn't offer the option of decimal numbers. Then, things that are supposed to get different scores end up with the same numbers. But here we go.
10- Ultimate masterpiece. Doesn't necessarily mean it is perfect, as its "real rating" can be anything between 9.5 and 10. Those works are very rare gems and left a very profound impact in me. They exceed in almost everything, or everything. They are a perfect example for "how to make an anime". Currently, there's nothing that belongs to this category, but if Aincrad were considered a standalone thing, then I'd give it a 10. It's perfect in every single way.
9- Masterpiece. Anything between 8.5 and 9.5. Those do have more flaws than the former, or fewer flaws with more weight. However, their qualities and brilliance are definite and much bigger than their flaws. Those are my favorites and are also very rare to find. I could say they are the reason I watch anime.
8- Very good. This is the last of the group of works that I'd call impressive. Anything between 7.5 and 8.5. Usually addictive, not as great as the 9s and 10s, but something that I'd still strongly recommend. They can be great in everything, but nothing more or less than that; and they can be also amazing or a masterpiece in some aspects, but way more lacking in a few others. Ex: Shokugeki no Souma. Story and art are amazing, but characters are lacking.
7- Good. Ranges from 6.5 to 7.5. The flaws are too big for it to impress me. It can be good in everything, or maybe something bad that later became great, or even great in some aspects but poor in others. But still exciting and something I'd always look forward to. Ex: Oda Nobuna no Yabou. A very good beginning with solid romance, but then got worse thanks to Arc Fatigue.
6- Fine. From 5.5 to 6.5. A substantial amount of flaws, but the qualities can surpass them just a little. Can also be something bad that got good later, or vice versa. I like those, and I'd recommend them if you're really bored. Ex: Kumamiko. Art is meh and story is boring. What saves it, though, are the interactions between the girl and the bear.
5- Bad. No, not mediocre. Mediocre would be 5.5. Can range from 4.5 to 5.5. Those have more flaws than qualities, even if the proportion is almost equal. Not recommended.

Maybe there was too much hype. SAO is at the top of my list now though. I loved it. I'm watching Accell World now. I was really into it in the first 6ish episodes but I'm on 11 now and it seems to be getting dry for me. I'll finish it though.
